I never considered a gap year before medical school and as of late I have really been feeling that decision! Although I am so proud of myself for getting into medical school right after undergrad I definitely now understand those who choose the alternative.

Im about to graduate undergrad and I definitely relate to this😭 im so burnt out and stressed. Im also dealing with imposter syndrome which is making me stall to take the MCAT. Now im scared because how am i stressed and burnt out already… im taking a gap year not by choice but now im stressing to find a realistic paying job to financially support myself & to ofc have fun during my gap year😭 im also scared of the “what if” aspect of Medicine. Like what if i get there and the stress is just tooo much & i grow to resent it… but you’re definitely not alone. I related to a lotttt of things you said although we are at two separate stages of our journey

Although I don’t have Hella money or anything like that this is one of the few may be the only channel which I wish I was rich because I would literally donate to you yo this channel is such a gem for the premed/medical school community on KZbin. I am about to graduate from high school in 10 days and people may think I am too young for a burnout but it happens to all. Especially with the whole covid scenario that took place, somewhere I feel I lost a part of me during the whole lockdown. I am not going to deny and say it was not helpful at all but I feel if I take a gap year now I will get to invent joy once again in my life. My mental health is not at the best and somehow looking at all my friends I feel I am not yet ready for college. I also want to excel academically and feel a gap year will do it for me although if I told my old self this I am pretty sure the response would make me feel like I am failing in life which I do feel at times but I am not entirely sure with what is happening to me or around me. I am kind of living little absently nowadays. God wishes everything goes well for all of us here 🫶🏻

I can relate to feeling burnt out in a career. Its soooo tough and such a heavy feeling when you realize you are not enjoying something you have dedicated so much of your life to. I think the key is evenly spaced breaks. True breaks/vacation where you are completely separated from work etc (forget what your day job even is! Lol). Also, use this time to figure out what do you really want from your career long term and what personal goals you have outside of work. Also, making sure you have good strong solid relationships in your personal life and really make an effort to prioritize your personal physical and mental health. Really make an effort to find things you love and dedícate time to it. Work to live as they say not live to work. Easier said than done of course lol. I really appreciate your honesty. You are not alone in the feelings you have experienced by far!
