The cool feature they forgot to mention is the "smartkey" feature. within seconds you can key this lock to your current house key, this keeps you from keeping different keys for old and new locks.

The cylinder looks like a standard, low-grade Kwikset unit, which means the electronics can be ignored and the mechanical part can be bypassed as easily as any "dumb" Kwikset lock. Besides, many houses in America have large glass windows or sliding glass doors that can be opened with a brick in 2 seconds.
@commonsense36910 жыл бұрын
Good point, I've been trying to get people to understand the importance of eliminating windows from new construction and requiring existing building to remove windows and replacing them with solid walls. Windows are nothing more than an opportunity for criminals to exploit a buildings perimeter. Also, many windows are responsible for heat/cool air loss and the introduction of insects to a structure. Bricks can't go through walls.
@Milosz_Ostrow10 жыл бұрын
commonsense369 In some European countries, e.g., France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, they solved the window security issue with rolling metal shutters. They can be retrofitted to houses, but they work better and look better if the architect designs the house with shutters from the start. The shutters can be locked to the sill at the bottom and slightly raised to spread the slats, which have air slots in them, allowing ventilation of the house when the inner glass window or door is left open. Rolling shutters are typically installed on the ground floor, at the very least, forcing a burglar to use a ladder to gain entry, making him very conspicuous, or used on all floors, securing the house from top to bottom. The shutters have the advantage that one can still enjoy the view through a window or glass door when one is home, but have peace of mind when one is gone.

thats because you are programmed to believe red is locked and now you have to accept that red is just a color and doesnt always mean locked or restricted.

Also, if its locked and you're phone is on the inside, the antenna on the inner section of the lock would be the one communicating with the mobile device, how would you now get back inside when you touch the lock for it to open?

Ok folks, I have one suggestion for all. get a cop to do a home security assessment. Here are some basics I pass on to all who ask. 1) On ALL doors leading to outside including entry from a garage, have (2) deadbolt style locks on the door giving access to the interior, with one of them needing a key to get IN or OUT. Keep the key in a hidden place near the door on the interior side, but not visible and show all family members where it is and can be used to exit the house in a fire or other emergency. This traps a burglar to exit the home with his loot should he be fortunate to get in. This may mean to carry 3 or more keys, but it reduces the likelihood of a burglar to get his loot out and limits it to what he can carry through the window. 2) Replace ALL screws that hold door hinges onto the frame of the doorway for all doors leading to the outside. All hinges should be held in by 3" or longer screws. The little screws that come with most hinge sets are too short and allow the door to be easily kicked in, the longer screws get into the door frame 2x4's and not just the flashing. Striker plates and any other reinforcement devices for strikers and the frame need to be installed. This keeps the wood from splintering by blunt force impact or kick in attempts. Check your local hardware store's home security area to get an idea on how to install these reinforcements.
@ASpiritRider8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for thinking of us but your suggestions are out dated do to technology. For example - Cary 3 keys? You can use 3 different smart keys instead = caring zero keys as u use your smartphone for all Which brings me to the next example - almost all theft today is of electronics that can fit in your backpack or pockets so locking him inside (where he can trach your home!) and then leave from a window isn't smart as he will still leave with everything he intended to leave with threw the door (he wasn't going to steal your washing machine and carry it on it's back right)

One of those things that if it became really popular will lead to hackers being able to waltz into your house. The whole damned world doesn't need to be operated from your damned smart phone. Some things should really stay non-digital.
@BestMotivationalVideos12310 жыл бұрын
Yep. And you can see that with computers now too. People often think that Apple computers can't get viruses, but hackers don't make viruses for Macs because they hold much less of the market share.

Right! These locks as well as most other locks are simple convenience locking devices. Yeah but criminals typically don't want to make a lot of noise or cause a lot of damage. They look for easy opportunity and convenience. Dollardave is right. I'm a locksmith. A screwdriver and a pair of pliers is all it takes. Smart locks internal parts are week at best. Put the flat head in the key way, and use the pliers to rock back and forth until key cylinder gives way. Takes less time than it takes to find your keys. Very crappy system, and people need to know. Kwikset knows... They just hope you don't. If I had one, I would replace the lock cylinder somehow to make it more secure. But absolutely don't put any smart lock from kwikset on anything you value.

SOLUTION: They should give out small dongles that you have to attach to your keyring and then have the lock open the door automatically when you walk up to it... Kind of like when you walk up to a modern car it automatically unlocks so you can just open the door without having to press unlock. Same thing for leaving. And it wouldn't be some shitty safety hazard like this because normally if a thief steals yours keys it would already include a home key.
