Thank you, Denise. I’m not sure how I missed this tour. It is obviously a well thought out space; very organized and beautiful. I love my creative space, too, even though I share it with a washer and dryer that are put to use as a work space when I’m in a creative frenzy. My husband, who worked in the construction industry, had a lot of great ideas that made my room more functional. I chose not to put in fixed drawers under my desk top and use rolling drawers so I can move them around as needed, like you use your carts. Metal strips (not magnetized) rather than a solid surface would be perfect for to use as an idea board. I better go check your play lists to see what else I missed.

I keep changing it around every few years to meet my current needs... I feel the winds of change coming on that photo wall where the black backdrop is hanging. I don't do as much with that area as I did when I was making photo workshops - so I feel it can be better used some other way with art stuff... just haven't decided what that is yet. 😁

Your art space is HUGE and beautiful! Love the magnetic strip for the pallet knives! I have a few of those that I put recycled soup cans on to hold brushes, knives, etc…. Mine is a 5’x8’-ish corner of my home office/studio. I’ve been working from home since the pandemic and converted my formal living room into a home office/art/music studio. It was a challenge to keep my art space safely separated from my musical instruments and office computer equipment with adequate ventilation. I went majorly vertical to make segregated spaces strategically spaced around windows in a single room. Luckily the room is large, about 2x the size of your studio. 😂

Denise, wonderful tour! Please tell me about the green chair by your work table! I am in need of a chair by my computer that's more comfortable. This one is beautiful and looks like it wouldn't take up a lot of space, which is what I need! I have carpeting in my studio so those "office" chairs with the rolling feet don't work. Yours also looks like it rotates, and that's another plus! It would be easy to get in and out of without having to actually move the chair, just turn and enter and exit easily! Where did you get it? Would love to know! Thanks!

Hi Denise. I’m happy to have recently found your wonderful videos. I see there is a lot for me to catch up on, which I am looking forward to 🙂 Your art room is lovely and so well put together. I was very drawn to your Japanese paint pigments and am wondering where you found yours at? Thank you for sharing your creativity with us. I also enjoy listening to you as as well.

Thanks so much for sharing a tour of your space, Denise! It's so inspiring to see how other artists arrange and store their stuff. I aspire to permanent setups for filming and photography and am rethinking furniture and organization in my studio. Ugh! The housing market! We had been planning to move but are sticking around in our current home for a bit longer than we hoped. To make things more fun (and functional!) we're switching rooms around and I'll be starting fresh with a new studio in what is now our bedroom (it will open directly into my garden which I'm so excited about). Your studio gives me even more ideas!

The permanent setups have really been a game changer for filming videos. I changed this around several months ago and it has been fantastic! Good luck with the switch up in rooms!! I feel like we’ll be stuck where we are for a while! 😊

Lovely studio tour and I'm so jealous of the large wooden drawer unit. I could easily fill one of those with all of my own art supply stuff if I had room for it but due to space constraints I have to stick with my current modular system and existing abundance of shelving units and rolling carts in my current office/studio. It's a beautiful piece of furniture though and so functional.

Thank you!! The large drawer cabinet on the bottom is a bedroom dresser that I liked... the drawer cabinet on top is an antique tool drawer cabinet that I found recently at the antique market and was determined to have it I loved it so much... I am obsessed with the map drawer cabinets and would die to have one of those one day to store art in... but I too am limited in space... so I keep dreaming. 😊

Thank you! ☺️ That cabinet was such a find at the antique store. It is one of my favorite pieces I have now. Most of the Art workshops I made for Skillshare but they are also listed on my own site (2lilowls.com/art-workshops/). The photography workshops are just on my site (2lilowls.com/workshops/)

I also bought a bunch of paper from the Michael’s sale and was thinking I bought too much but I have been doing a lot of art journaling and I am tearing through the paper and also I’ve been making tags with it. I hope they have another sale this summer and I’ll stock up again

That totally was the best time to buy paper! I want a 1/2 off sale on the really nice paper somewhere too!! I'll be in paper heaven! 😊

This was so much fun to see and I found lots of parallels to how I have things organized since I live in a small apartment so have to be efficient. And I spent a couple of decades in small offices so now I do not want to have file folders or get too officey with my art space. I don't do it as a business so that helps! Sure glad you do though. I really enjoy your attitude and personality--you're perfect for this! I'm a new subbie so will be catching up on your videos and will check out your workshops.

That bit you mentioned about leaving the expensive paper in a closet 'til you forget how much you paid for it, does ring a bell with me. Not that I MEANT to forget the price. But I was rather ashamed of spending THAT MUCH on paper so that's why I hid it, and out of sight, out of mind, and now I feel a tiny bit less ashamed of being such an extravagant fool, PLUS I've forgotten the price - so it will be easier to use it! Lol Love your studio space, but I have so much stuff that mine will NEVER look as nice as yours. I'm afraid my middle name is "Constant Clutterer". 😂😂😂
@2lilowlsstudio11 ай бұрын
Right? If I put it in the closet for a bit, I just forget what I paid. Then I don’t worry so much about “ruining” it. My studio is usually a lot more messy. I filmed this after a clean up! 😊

Where did you find turquoise paper towels?
@2lilowlsstudio Жыл бұрын
Those are shop towels. I usually get them in the Paint Department at Lowes or Home Depot. I like them because they don't have texture on them like regular paper towels and a roll lasts me a long time. They look like this set on amazon: amzn.to/3J6n6BE

Hey Denise! Loved your tour. Just out of curiosity, are these two 18 inch ring lights enough for you to film your videos? Or do you also use some kind of fill light / bounce apart from these? I have a room almost the same size as yours and I've been thinking of converting it into a permanent setup for videos. I don't get natural light there though!
@2lilowlsstudio Жыл бұрын
Thank you! ☺️ Yes - the 2 lights are perfect for filming. It helps that the walls are white - so that bounces some light back on the scene. I truly love this setup for filming. The window is further down from this set up - so not really contributing light and sometimes I need to cover the window anyway since the light changes as the sun goes in and out of the clouds. These are the neewer 18” LED lights and they are dimmable - so I can adjust them to what I need each day.
@2lilowlsstudio Жыл бұрын
I also film with a lumix g7 camera - using a regular camera allows you to adjust ISO and shutter speed for proper exposure really helps also.

What table mat do you use for your painting table
@2lilowlsstudio Жыл бұрын
The wood grain mat? It is a vinyl photography backdrop 2’ x 4’. I find them on Etsy. When they get too dirty from art - I just switch out to a new one. Pretty to film on.

@@2lilowlsstudio you would really love it a little further northwest from there (oh say, about an hour-ish?) In the home of 9-1-1....... Downtown would be a great place for a gallery studio and lessons there. 😁
