I'm very happy that, somewhere, we have a place called "Laser Bay".

Nearly everyone is paid to do something. Sort through data. Serve coffee. Decide what a company should do. Blow glass into fun shapes. Measure the neutron spectrum of iron. But some are paid to figure out how the world works, and they do it for practically free (considering how much they are worth). These are the people in this video. They are paid to understand and figure out how nature works, so that knowledge can make our lives better. Yet some many people think they know more about it than they do.

Finally a video that explains how this laser works and its energy level....4 megajoules or 1\30 of a gallon of gasoline....

well this machine makes burning leaves with a magnifying glass look a bit amateurish :s

Not laser driven or inertial confinement, magnetic confinement. I wouldn't hold my breath anyway. That thing's been in planning since I was a kid in the 80s. The price tag is now up to $20 BILLION (4x NIF, 2X LHC) and that's with the scaled back plasma volume and canceled neutral beam injection and ion/electron cyclotron resonance heaters. There's no way they're getting breakeven before 2030 if it's even finished. These are the darkest days in fusion research in at least the last 3 decades.

@@joshuanejat1813 damn is right, my decade old comment was unfortunately right as fuck. lol. Just last week they announced the thermal shield to the vacuum vessel wall had cracks and will have to be disassembled and repaired. Also up to $23 billion total now, haha. My last line was right, but things have been looking up over the past year or so with NIF shockingly actually achieving hohlraum-level ignition with 3MJ target yields!

@@Muonium1they got breakeven controlled fusion

@@The_Mitchell I'm aware. But it's ignition and "breakeven" only at the hohlraum level.

We should forget about nuclear energy while of course we should forget to use that much electricity. Nuclear energy sux when sht happens (even if You say it happens very-very rarely). Sadly we cant avoid human error and the power of elements. Oh and can we hadle it properly? Anyways I hate nuclear energy although I use it. I hate that its undetectable/invisible and stty deadly
@oceanhouse80806 жыл бұрын
Its the combination of nuclear material and water that causes the problems, nuclear power is our future, we just need to change the way its done....

Yes, clearly one should defer to your obviously superior knowledge on the subject. lol.

Sounds great. There's joke on the topic of fusion. There is a tradtion among scientists to gather every 50 billion years and build a Hadron collider... Then there is this laser fusion-implosion thing. One of the memes portray it as Alt + F4 combination for the universe.
