I'm a girl from a small town in Africa and I really don't know how this man ended up on my youtube, but so thankful he did! I have no idea how I am even able to understand this great intellectual when he speaks as I am not even an academic. Though some of his teachings surpass my understanding, they still resonates so deeply with me! I will continue to listen and learn. Thank you Dr Peterson. Just know that your work reaches further than you can imagine. You are empowering even the displaced and 'uneducated'. Your channel and talks are my university.

Dear JP. Even at the age of 48, you have reinvigorated my enthusiasm for life, goals and improvement. My room was more of a mess than I'd thought, but after just a few month's of watching your videos, I'm finally climbing out of a dark hole. I never thought anyone could understand my position and yet, without even meeting or conversation, your compassion and encouragement has helped me beyond comprehension. I can't thank you enough but I know what I do differently from here on, how I will overcome all current/future difficulties and how I improve as many things around me as possible is all the thanks you ever hope to see. Merry Christmas to you and your family. God bless. And, thank you.

Lost a job which I had a lot of my identity in in 2014 after 20 years, my mother and grandmother dies in jan. 2014 within a week of each other. In 2015 my wife left after 20 years of marriage. 3 kids together we share 50/50 . Needless to see its been hard. I don't know what your situation is but mine has been a hard few years. 4 years ago, I did something without knowing what I was doing. I created my first educational course on Udemy. As a stupid teen. The course was REALLY bad. But I did it. Because I didn't know better. Had I known better at that time, and been more knowledgeable, I may not have created the course. Because then I would have known that I would create a bad course. So I wouldn't have done it. If I had just thought about it, I wouldn't have done it, and I would have NOTHING by now. But I did it, I did badly but I did. And now it's my profession, and I create good courses now. So, just DO what you want to do. Do badly. But do it.

This short video has been very helpful for me, so thank you. Perfectionists have difficulty living up to their idealised standards, and an acceptance of doing something wrong in the beginning is a key step for tapping into your sense of purpose and overcoming inhibitions to action. This is something I struggle with and I think taking your advice on board will have an immensely strong impact on my life.
@LorisWhirled
@LorisWhirled 6 жыл бұрын
sesmcawameqi Me, too. Other manifestations of this may be contributors to my hoarding behavior. I react physically and emotionally to the acquisition of goods. (Elation) I react physically and emotionally when goods leave my possession. (Remorse) And perhaps worst of all, I feel dread when someone expresses a need for something I have let go. And it’s worse if it is within mere days. I also suffer from analysis paralysis. Jordan B Peterson gives me hope and guidance, and restores my faith in myself. I am so grateful that I get to live in a world where his feet roam the earth. I don’t worship him...like a savior...like a messiah...like Christ...or any such thing. His influence has no price tag. He’s not asking me to do or promise or give anything. I love and respect him in equal measure.

Dr. Peterson gives absolutely liberating advice in suggesting writing a bad thesis. You can do that! About 20 or more years ago, the singer songwriter Harry Chapin appeared in an intimate Soundstage performance in the PBS studios in Chicago. During the break he hung out and chatted with the audience. Someone asked, "Harry, how did you learn to write such great songs?" He answered that he wasn't sure but he knew for certain that the first step was to write 100 bad songs. My eyes opened wide at that news. I thought, "I can do that!". i am more than halfway through that assignment. (And somehow still married.) i am old now and may never complete it, but what joy I have had in trying. I never would have started if I had waited until i could write a "good" song. Go for it! And in your spare time, watch all of JP's lectures.

Please also consider adressing one of the problems that benefited this procrastination/depressive/anxious state, that I haven't heard you adressing. Which is my parents have always done everything for me when I was young from cooking me dinner to as simple as making my bed and cleaning my room, and now I'm in a foreign country taking care of my own life, and I'm very messy lazy and my attention span is that of a fish(thats mainly due to the ammount of time I spent on the computer), and changing my habbits has been a very difficult journey, I cant even get my self to study properly, because that implicates effort. This is absolutely accurate. I've learned this in an art class, just start drawing, something will come to you, just start writing (for a research paper) even if it's cruddy, in doing so, you get the crud part out of the way as you revise and you replace it with something better, it always works. This is how I approach most things now, that I want to do. Just start. Action has to override thinking in the beginning.

I'm pretty sure I can learn this so I'll just do it until I'm good. Flashforward some 8 years of art class later I remembered what I thought and looked at the Sargent reproduction oil painting in front of me I had just finished and thought, holy shit I did it. As a young man, I scrubbed pots and pans at a job that anyone could with no experience as long as they committed to working hard. It gave me the opportunity to earn respect and to respect the labor of others. It provided an excellent foundation for an aimless 15 year old boy. 30 years later, I am an administrator on an array of some of the most powerful computers in the world. I´ve had alot of trauma in my family and weak relationship to rolemodels. I hope you continue your work to inspiring others to take on responsability and to speak forthrightfully in the world. I was listening to his videos and my 10 year old daughter listened to one of his speeches and now is hooked to his videos, she comes up and asks me to play his videos. This guy is addictive and listening to him is so invigorating, I am not white, not a Christian and love this guy's speeches and advice, media has unwantedly made this him a bad guy.

Jordan, this is tremendously powerful for me. I have no idea what I am doing & I am attempting to learn a new skill of real estate photography compositional editing. Being honest with myself, I have been procrasting from doing it because I am scared to try it and fail but hearing your encouraging words is genuinely all I needed to hear to begin my challenging work. "As I stumble forward I will illuminate and inform myself. And perhaps thats partly because the world is made of information, and If I encounter with it & entangle with it, then it will inform me and I become informed. Thus I am in-form-ation and then I am ready" THANK YOU

It seems as if he is begging us to understand. This is for everyone. To articulate so well the tremendous truth and reality of life, how to look at it differently from the way the majority of us have been trained to see ourselves, others, the world around us. For me very enlightening, encouraging, incredibly helpful. Thank you Dr. Peterson.

One of the best points I’ve ever heard from Jordan Peterson. I saw him in Orlando and he said the same thing to a question about what a young man in his twenties should do with his life. Peterson simply said, “Something. . .” and explained this logic. It’s powerfully true.

Thank you for what you do JP, I hope that some day I can meet you in person and shake your hand and thank you properly in person. You might not even realize the impact you have because it goes beyond viewer statistics. The kind of people who listen to what you say are the kind of people who really care about the direction their life goes, and those are people who end up changing the course of history. Even they need guidance and wisdom along the way.

In chess there's a saying that's fundamentally true, and it goes "A bad plan is better than no plan at all." Because a bad plans you where to correct and in which way to change your direction. No plan at all is far, far worse in chess than having a bad plan.

Thank you Dr Peterson. I needed this "even badly" right now. I came from Paris to meet you in Amsterdam last year. You told me about incremental improvement back then. We've talked about AI and its implications. You were truely nice. A very complexe well-intentioned aura. I want to tell you that what Martin Weil did was a shame, and not to slow down on trying to reach the french cities. He was condemned by most people at least on youtube. There is here a deeply rooted toxic mindset, but people can't figure out its causes. I think that your discourse on the truth can be their remedy. Lies have became an art here. Wish you well.

People think they need all of the knowledge and all of the experience in the world to write something meaningful. I’ve learned that the hardest part about writing, is to not second guess yourself and to just keep writing. Then you revise and rewrite, and continue like that. Over time you’re going to have a masterful piece of written work.

I’ve only just discovered you a month or so ago on KZbin. Mainly covering Canada’s C16 law. But I’ve since seen many lectures and other clips on various topics you speak on and I want to tell you, from the bottom of my heart; thank you. Thank you for waking me up to the dismal person I didn’t know I was and for relighting flame of life within me. I truly mean this and I’m not trying to be overly dramatic. You are an inspiration to anyone willing to open their mind and listen and be honest with themselves. You are a blessing to the world, especially in the days we live in and I say that with all the sincerity and seriousness that I have inside me. Thank you, Jordan B Peterson for all that you are and all you do to provide the guidance necessary to bring meaning, civility and honesty back into society and to turn around those of us lost in dismal black abyss for so long. You’re a credit to your profession, and to humanity itself.

It's bloody amazing and feel fortunate; was in front row for this lecture, lecture 9; these zig-zag slides came up two weeks after I had a vision of the same exact ziggy-zaggy-like spacial movement in lecture 7. And again they appear in lecture 15. Although had a bad, terrible, month and a half concluding 2018, and felt like the entire world of light went black. No star to aim toward, not sure if I went blind or if the star disappeared. I appreciate that Dr Peterson has described that in real life, manifestations of "dragons" can, and sometimes do destroy would-be heroes who set out to slay them. Perhaps another element of this Self-Authoring suite, could be a metaphorical burn ward for gathering those who have been scorched by dragons.

After six months I realized I don't know anything, and that I am indeed a fool, so I switched to hard manual labor in five shifts. It paid more, but lacked meaning. Mr Jordan, Sir. Greatfull I am for the skill you have (and sharing that gift with us) of breaking the important things/discussions in our current age down to the basic elements/principles from which they consist. Then to arange those elements into order, to articulate those elements and the correct order they should be in, in such a fashion that it could be better understood. Allow us to beter understand the complex issues that we are faced with today. Strength and Honour to you. Regards. W

If it's an intellectual exercise that helps people with fucked up lives fix theirs, why charge a prohibitively high cost rather than a donate button so once people use it and improve their life they can reward you proportionately? I get you're hustlin but I'm just sharing my experience with a 6th barrier to doing the FAP

You just explained the entire human existence in this talk. We start stupid and make horrible decisions. Move forward always, make calculated mistakes to learn. Yes, calculated mistakes are learning experiences. You only stop becoming a valuable human when you stop pushing to learn. Can eating a sheep's eye in Greece be a learning experience? Of course, I know because I did it. The conversation that you are most scared of having, is the most important conversation of your life. The only equally powerful thing in this life is humor.. Just my thoughts.
