Thanks for watching, Doc, and thanks for commenting! Great observation! This batch of pictures was so frustrating cause they came with virtually no information! What little background I WAS able to provide on some came from hours of Googling! Hope you enjoyed nonetheless.
@TheRealDrJoey2 жыл бұрын
@@thefamilyalbum739 Well, I took out my magnifying glass and did a bit of "research" myself, regarding that billiard parlor. The picture was taken in the early 30s, based on the cars. Looks like they had a lunch counter in there also. I noticed the sign says "Pocket" Billiards, and that dates it a bit too, because at the time this was taken 3-cushion billiards, which has no pockets, was still enjoying fairly wide popularity, and pocket pool was gradually replacing it, because it was a whole lot easier. If you listen to the lyrics of the first verse of the song "Ya Got Trouble," in "The Music Man," it's about what a supposedly coarse, bad influence pocket pool was to the youth, as opposed to the more cerebral game of 3-cushion. Again, thanks for putting this montage together. I'd almost forgotten there was a time, so long ago, when even I wasn't born yet.

@pearlcaster82872 жыл бұрын
Jeez Sharon, the depression was called "THE GREAT DEPRESSION" for a reason! It affected the working poor; factory workers, sharecropper farmers. carpenters, city plumbers, mechanics, et al. We're an eyelash away from another and the government printing more money won't make it better. The only virtue the GREAT DEPRESSION had was ZERO INFLATION, because we were on the gold standard. Wages were low, but money had a lot of buying power. FDR confiscated gold for the government, making it illegal for citizens to own gold, other than dental fillings and jewelry. Nixon deregulated gold because the Arab nations were gobbling up U.S. gold, trying to create a monopolistic possession on world-wide gold. LBJ devalued silver currency in the U.S. to pay for NASA, his "GREAT SOCIETY," and the Viet Nam War expansion (that's why we have silverless-copper coins, all other nations still have real money---> silver coins), and our paper money has "Federal Reserve Note" across the top of it (truth be told, paper money doesn't have to be redeemed!). Deficit spending got us here. FDR did deficit-spending to pay for WWII. My generation (born in WWII) was to pay extra taxes to pay for WWII's cost when we entered the work force; however, LBJ upped the deficit and we've never yet paid off WWII. Each political party has kept increasing deficit-spending to date. It's called the "NATIONAL DEBT."Sending U.S.A. factories to China, due to American manufacturers, not being able to meet the too-high standards decreed by the EPA, robbed us of jobs in multi-layered catagories. You'd better read books, go to college and get a good job, because Social Security has been run into the ground by paying too many benefits to, among others, illegal aliens, who've entered and requested asylum (supposedly due to them being persecuted in their native Mexico, Central America, et al). You're going to aee "a lot of people sure were poor today."

A lot of these pictures use initials for names ("J. L. Smith's farmhouse")...No way of knowing what they meant. I've seen a lot of old graves the same way: J.L. Smith Mrs J.L. Smith Child of J.L. Smith (usually no date, or just a day or two of life)

The guitar solo was unnecessary and distracting. Several pictures had no reference to location. I saw a far-flung posible cousin reference. Most people don't realize that the prime mover in Ohio, Tennesse, Alabama, West Virginia, Virgina becoming more prosperous was the TVA's dams on the persisitently flooding rivers.

GREAT CRITICISM. Truth is, I'm working on a video about slavery in America. My problem is, being white, I'm very concerned about offending. I'm thinking about underlying commentary by Martin Luther King, LBJ, the late Congressman John Lewis, JFK, etc. You thoughts? Thanks for watching, Edward, and thanks for taking the time to comment.
@pearlcaster82872 жыл бұрын
I think your comment is insulting to the video poster. Your comment was to infuse guilt, and it did. Her first apology to you was, "...MY PROBLEM IS, BEING WHITE..." Her second apology was, "...I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT OFFENDING..." I do wonder why she thinks JFK said anything gracious about "people of color." That term, in itself, was just a wider loop to get American Indians, Latinos, et al to incorporate themselves alongside Negros, Blacks, people of color, and the next politically-correct term, plus whomever else they could garner political support from. The term, "people of color" is ignorant. Read an old, politically-incorrect physical anthropology textbook. There are three races, with two subsets, and race has nothing to do with "people of color" (i.e., skin color). Not to belabor my point, (1) maybe that's all the photos that fit her time limit, sound-track, catagory, area of past disasters, etc. (2) historical time period; The Great Depression, rural areas 1932-1941, and ??. If you're considering yourself "woke" then you're intolerant to others. Your comment says a lot about your personality type. Your lack of punctuation, and ending/beginning sentences - you didn't proofread what you wrote, says something about your attention/educational level. I'm an elderly math teacher and I grit my teeth at ignorance. To be ignorant, is to be uninformed; to be stupid, is to not recognize you're ignorant. Now, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings. I'm talking to you as an adult to an adult. This is is a critique, not a condemnation. Read more. Educate yourself to a much higher degree.
