Take Care of your Spinning Reel: with Shimano Reel Oil Grease Spray | Reel Washing Oiling

Hi anglers! We are back with an updated Spinning reel maintenance video. We recommend anglers to use the official Shimano Reel Oil Grease Spray SP-003H. Be mindful to not use too much grease or oil on each oiling part, as this may damage the reel. A little bit goes a long way, ONE drip is more than sufficient to keep your reel buttery-smooth!

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Shimano's are the best spinning reels for the money. Only ones left that make a rear drag, which I greatly prefer. I have some Symetre's, which they no longer make, but replaced with the Sahara. I fish fresh water only, but these are hands down the best quality for 100 bucks and last forever if you take care of them at all.

It's hard to get Shimano oil in most markets. You can get the Diawa oil here. Comes with a handy pen to apply so lasts ages. If you can get it in your country consider it. I use it on my Shimanos and Diawa reels. Both reels are made of similar materials.

You do not put oil on that up and down shaft , it takes a light coat of grease . I think I’ve mentioned it at least three times .

Have, and had, many Shimano reels mostly spinners, Stradics, Spheros, Sahara, Curado and a recent addition Vanford. I do all my own maintenance and never really looked into what oil/grease to use. One reel I don;t remeber which came with a little bottle of oil but thats long gone.. Have used a few different brands, usually either Penn Precision, or Hot Sauce so far no problems. After recently watchingmany many videos seems like Hot Sauce is maybe not so good to use on Shimano. Went looking but can;t find, went to Shimano sites and came across a lengthy articale/info-page with several different grease and oil types form Shimano, furtehr confused now. Never see the Shimano Reel Grease or Reel Oil for sale in the USA.. any recommendations on where I can purchase ?

Replace your drag stack. Most likely you have felt ones, use carbon instead and grease them up

WD-40 is not a lubricant - it is a water repellent and cleaner. You will ruin your reel if you use WD40

I truly can not believe you are recommendingto run water over your reel. . ok you dry and oil it afterwards . I follow your other steps but prefer to use an appropriate damp rag . each to their own opinion and method.

@@frankleon6708 a better way is to give reel to a professional reel master, or shimano service, or if you can to disassembly reel, to clean that with special cleaner, and after to using special grease and oil from shimano for every mechanism

There bearings are sourced through Boca. Shimano and Diawa use the same manufacturer. I get mine changed every 2 years regardless. Only fish the salt and use both brands of reels.

@@jinsu0504 Well for that you need to get inside. type any reel model and maintenance on youtube search, you will see. But they also did things that does not require reel disassembly poorly for example handle knob and line roller
