Shame there is no mention of oxalates in some leafy greens, that can actually prevent calcium absorption. A lot in spinach, even a lttle in kale. I’ve read that steaming them or cooking in water for a short period pf time takes out most of the oxalate. It ends up in the water so don’t use that. Some frozen spinach is blanched before freezing. I’m hoping that is enough.

Shame too that they don't mention dairy leaching calcium from bones
@ritasallee63317 ай бұрын
Don't count on spinach for calcium because of the oxalates. Spinach is very healthy and nutritious, but there are many other plant based foods to obtain calcium.

Again, conflicting information on diet for osteoporosis. Where are the proven studies on dairy being good for osteoporosis? Please provide them. Spinach has calcium but that doesn’t mean it’s good for osteoporosis. Organic dairy of any kind is best. Agree on the leafy greens being brought to the forefront. Weight bearing exercise (lots) and optimizing nutrients like Vit D3, C, k2, magnesium, boron, phosphorous, silica, B vitamins to get started.

There is no scientific evidence showing yogurt and cheese as being bad for you. The evidence says eat mostly plants. Hopefully you’re supplementing with calcium if you’re vegan because unless you’re consuming 12 cups of greens a day, you’re deficient in calcium.
@deborahraaen3059 Жыл бұрын
Note that some leafy greens like spinach especially contain oxalate that can prevent the ansorption of calcium. Apparently steaming them or cooking in water for a short period can take out most of the oxalate but not the calcium. Don’t use the water as that’s where the oxalate ends up. Even Kale has a little so it’s perhaps best to blanch it before use. Vitamin K2 is also important in addition to vit D.

It's not really true. Japanese and Chinese woman have little to no osteoperosis and they do not consume dairy - or if they do, in tiny amounts. But their diets, esp the Japanese diet is so super healthy, they do not seem to be prone to this. in addition, in Japan, old people exercise regularly, they are always biking or walking. They also have low rates of breast cancer. I am not sure exactly what it is about the Japanese diet which promotes longevity and health - other than it's packed with fish, vegetables, tofu and they eat very small portions. We could learn a few lessons from them. I have been to Japan many, many times and have never seen an obese person. They also use a lot of protein powders and fermented foods. Anyway, something to think about

it depends upon what your definition of Keto is. It is very healthy if it means eating vegetables, chick peas, lentils and pulses etc. This is what our ancestors ate along with all parts of animals (ok that is yuck! to me) but look at how healthy they were compared to us. People who eat meat today are much more fatter compared to our older generation in the fifties and sixties who ate the same amount of meat. Sedentary lifestyle is one thing but it is also due to all the crazy hormones and chemicals that are fed to the animals to make them fat. It becomes part of us when we eat the same meat.

I am looking for a video about Dairy NOT being of any use for osteoporosis. I have been started on a low-carb diet for seizures started in 2004 after a blow to the head. I also have very bad osteoporosis which was found through DEXA at 30, 30yrs ago and I have refused all meds. I have to look at an exercise program at The Bone Clinic but they are going to want me on dairy. the Naturopath has started me on low carbs they have told me to stop dairy & carbs. It is hard to know what to do. I do remember stopping dairy many years ago but had started on it again, full cream & unprocessed.

Travesty in women's health that they aren't testing bone density until age 65 after menopause when you can longer build bone/or every difficult and have lost alot of bone during menopause. Ladies get your bones scanned at 50 and again right at menopause and no where you stand so you can have earlier intervention /time to build bone and slow loss. Hip fractures from falls /low bone density are leading cause of death!
