Just for information, please be aware that even if the model are the same, there is a model version Archer c6 v4 which is not supported using the tutorial of this video.

The Archer C7 is extremely well supported - I have a V2 and V4. I'd say it's better supported then TP-Links own support in fact (market pending - the US, and EU got very regular updates from TP-Link, but other markets such as Canada they are seriously lack luster to put it mildly). I'm moving to a TP-Link AX23 soon as it arrives (yep, getting the OpenWRT treatment).

That was a _lot_ easier than I thought it would be. Just upload to flash.

I wished TP-Link made decent devices instead of those low flash low RAM devices that they throw into different plastic cases again and again. TP-Link is the last brand you should consider for openwrt if you are planning to install any additional packages like VPN, adblocker etc

careful, the new Archer C6 v4 will never be supported! The case looks the same as v3. I would recommend choosing a cheap wifi6 router anyway. Cudy X6, Asus RT-AX53U

C6 V3 and A6 V3 are very similar down to the hardware, the last time I tried (year 2022) my A6 V3 with OpenWRT, the 5 GHz WiFi drops out frequently and I switched back to the stock firmware because of it. Can you tell me your experiences with your C6 especially with the 5 GHz signal? I might try OpenWRT again.
@Krisseck Жыл бұрын
I have been using both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signals for several weeks now, no problems whatsoever. I did change the channels manually though, to avoid interference.

This connectivity problem is pretty well known and happens on quite a bit of hardware (most of the time on 5ghz radios but periodically on 2ghz as well). There’s one particular thread on the openwrt forums that covers it from all angles. Most of the time people can just manually add a couple of lines of code in the config file, while for stubborn cases people have written a script that looks for certain error codes that appear in the logs when this occurs and restarts/flushes the radio interface automatically to fix it. Since you can’t leave links here just look for this post title: “Dumb AP with linksys e8450 / Belkin RT3200 occasionaly client associates but no connectivity” - the relative parts start around the 10th reply…

The internet at my company requires a username and password for access. I know the credentials, but I want to connect my TP-Link router to this internet. I tried looking for a solution online but couldn't find anything. Will this fix it ?

Can't tell for every router, but mine with OpenWRT worked MUCH better. Same channel, same power, same location, but much better. I suspect that it's because of better wifi algorithms Can tell the same about my current ASUS with FreshTomato software. WARNING, this is IMHO, flash your routers on custom software on your own risk. My advice - give yourself some time to read everything about possible troubles

if you're gonna use it as AP only, then why even install openwrt? What's disadvantage of stock?
@TheStevenWhiting Жыл бұрын
Security. Even if its an AP, it still broadcasts as an AP in the area that others can pick up.

@@TheStevenWhiting sure. stock firmware also has AP mode with all security (wpa2/wpa3)

@@rahilarious WiFi is much better with OpenWRT. Ofc, i can tell only about my own case. Apartment and lots of AP from neighbours. Even on the same channel, same power, in the same location, it was much better. My guess, the trick is in transmitting algorithms. Oh, OpenWRT gives you direct control over transmitting power, you can push it much further than stock. And some additional security modules Same story about Asus on FreshTomato software Do everything on your own risk

USB-C for what? That is ridiculous. And of course it’s plasticky. What do you mean this is expected for the price? What? Lol of course plasticky it’s made of plastic. and if you only wanted it to be an access point let me tell you wasted your money and you’re recommending something very expensive for what it is and what it does. As an access point I mean. You’ll be more than served with a Xiaomi mi router 4A gigabyte for half the price as an access point only.
