I fail on a lot of categories because of age. For example, I can kick ass in the unlikely event that my assailant is a fellow senior citizen but my score declines rapidly as he gets younger. I think there should be curve for this category. I think you also need to include scores based on threat levels. My security practices are attuned to my environment. I don't walk around in a state of oblivion but I also don't walk around like I am on the President's security detail either. And I avoid Chicago like the plague. You can look at your phone on occasion if you made sure that there isn't anyone who can close on you in the time it takes look. It has a camera. You can use that to your advantage in a countersurveillance situation.

Friendly reminder that this test is less about your score today and more about finding our own gaps. The idea is to be a resource for gradual improvement overtime. I’ve got a lot of growing work too. We’re all on a journey and I don’t care as much where you are today, simply that you’ll be a little better tomorrow and so on. Get to work poets!

Slightly above 25%... Not bad. I think that translates to .4 under my prediction. Good prediction! Could be better at security. Interesting thing about psychopaths, they can feel fear and depression. They just don't recognize threats well, so can expose themselves to reckless dangers in ways which seem fearless. At least so says some theory on the subject...

Prepare preshmare. Most of his 'advice' are literally non-options for nearly everybody who doesn't have access to the enormous amounts of money and opportunity he has. He's talking about mastering a bunch of different martial arts, building yourself a well and off-grid energy supply, getting a degree in criminal psychology, and what essentially amounts to paying tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to instructors for a bunch of specialized training. And I'm supposed to do this on top of holding a job to afford all the other shit that he suggests, I guess. Coupled with him giving himself all these high scores this comes across as just an opportunity to humblebrag.

It is how you balance your age; I know I can't do BJJ at my age (two bad knees, bad shoulder, etc), because important body parts will start flying off. But I can do Filipino Martial Arts with the majority of my training in blades, empty hands, and footwork. My FMA style (just started training in what I call "Old Man Silat" with my instructor, very nasty) emphasis is carrying at least three blades, one on strong side, one on weak side, and a neck knife. Guess what, that is part of my EDC now, along with a pistol (or two, depending on where I am going). Realize your weaknesses and balance them in another area. If you can't run, then walk/hike. If you need to get flexible/stronger/more endurance; do yoga, just call it Tactical Combat Conditioning and Stretching if someone sees you doing it. 😁 There is always going to be someone younger, stronger, faster, etc regardless of how young or how old we are.....Always remember: "Age and treachery will overcome skill and youth."

My emphasis is on maximum efficiency with minimum effort. What I could do in my 30s, 40s and 50s is not available to me now. Though I still shoot a little. would like to see an assessment like this geared for those of us who are more senior in years it still pays to have goals.

One day years ago I was driving through town with my 10 year old son. As we passed a man jogging my son said “oh that poor man” I asked him why he said that and he responded “because he must have lost his drivers license “ I laughed and said what makes you think he lost his license? Without missing a beat he said “why else would a grown man be running along the side of the road “ lol hahalol I must have laughed for the next 10 blocks lol Of course my favourite quote of all time was also from his lips except he was about 16 or 17. Again he and I were driving through town when we both noticed two girls walking on the sidewalk. I asked him if they were in any of his classes at the high school. He said “ no way they’re only like 11 or 12”. I said your kidding right? Because I thought they had too much makeup and not enough clothes even for 17 year olds. That’s when he told me he calls them Prosta-tots lol hahahaha lol I almost wrecked the car I laughed so hard lol. I proceeded to teach all of my friends this new word and it’s meaning lol Now even my mother (70 years old) uses that word whenever she sees young girls like that lol It is absolutely hysterical though when MY grandmother, 93 years old uses it lol hahahaha lol Go ahead and use it and tell your friends as well lol. Its the perfect word for them isn’t it? Lol Prosta-tots lol

I’m older. I’m a vet and was a firefighter/EMT as well, but I’m disabled now. So the only thing I really scored well on was situational awareness (probably because I’m being dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming). I also have easy access to weapons everywhere in my home, plus i carry my weapon even in my home. I learned that little lesson from an old roommates son who was a cop up in a leftist state but i wont say which, hint; taxachussets. We were in the kitchen (more than fifteen years back now) and he said “what would you do right now if a gang came in ? You’d never make it to your gun.” Sitting on my nightstand. I thought for a moment and had to agree with him. I believe he wanted me to agree that us civilians dont need guns, but i just went and strapped mine on. Ive never taken it off since. Ive been a CWP holder for decades. So now I’m in a quandary. What exactly is my role in the events that are coming ? Do i walk point and take the first hit ? That’s cool, i took that oath, and it didn’t expire. I am willing to do anything in my power to save our country, and my people, but i just feel a bit lost.

How does one gain a good score in “Fighter Mindset” holding their own in fights while simultaneously keeping points in the “avoiding stupid people in stupid places” category? Some of it is from misspent youth or military service in combat or law enforcement/security/bouncer or a couple weekend shifts in a big city Emergency Room (shit happens and lately it is happening a lot in areas where it never has happened before). The mindset is a tough area to score yourself. I can imagine that the people John thinks are "5", they think they are only 3 or 4 themselves. In this category a 5 is a just out of reach destination on a never ending journey. A fighter mindset can be simulated in training but can only be verified in real world use.

Dude this test is BS. 50% helpful and then 50% straight BS. Which makes it 100% untrustworthy. Some of the things he attempts to quantify is so ignorant and one dimensional. How does a test like this fare with a 5 foot female with a handgun? She’s gonna fail most of the physical but why would it matter if she has a gun and is wise about it. I’ve always thought this guy was over the top with selling his “ninja skills” in awkward ways. To me it seems like he just needed to come up with a list that would frame buying simplisafe as a necessary item.

Comfortable with improvised weapons and environmental force multipliers. Have the footwork and skill sets to transition in and out of all 6 ranges of conflict. If they were doing it like a Fallout character they would end poorly, just consider how some can run for 100km or swim from France to England which would be probably considered 10/10 on Fallout endurance scale and then compare it with your average Joe like me longest achieved 30min endurance run... Then consider lugging heavy loads with Fallout strength of 6 (important in Fallout) etc. and how much you can lug in your backpack for prolonged time and you find yourself very quickly as a poor excuse for a human being. Whatever way you put it, most of the people would fare miserably if used Fallout ranking system for defying theirs character survival capability, I personally know only people that score reasonably well in one or two basic stats, for girls, the most common usually being the charisma, and don't get me started with skills, where many people in software development would be dead within 72 hours if left in the wild.

On situational awareness: I was a long haul 48 state driver for 42 years. I am so engrained in the 360 view, I look both ways in my own home. At truck stops, I refused to walk between parked trailers, I walked in the light whenever possible, even at secure customer docks. I was not allowed to carry a weapon, but I carry myself with confidence and have talked a "few" tough guys out of a fight by not showing fear to them. Looking a dangerous person in the eyes can, and usually will disarm them enough to make them unsure they will win. I don't do very well in some of the other areas, but I know to not let my weakness be obvious. I enjoy your videos, and I like 4 of the 5 calibers, but would put .45 ACP in place of the 6.5 Creedmore, but, like you said, it is a personal choice. All of those rounds are more likely to remain available. I do like the .30.06, but do not see it as a round that can not be replaced by tactics and careful situational awareness preparation.

Yeah I haven’t sprinted in a long time haha. Just been lifting heavy and hiking with heavy packs for 6-10 miles twice a week. But yes watching people run makes me feel out of breath

@@SnackPack913 running in combat often happens in bursts. Run 100m to cover. Talk on the radio and set up counter ambush. Run 180m to next objective. Take down target building, set up security and re-evaluate. Run 60m to vehicle coming for support. Running in law enforcement is similar or is a long single sprint like 200 to 300m. If your baseline cardio is decent with good metabolic condition and great strength: your physical probably ain't gonna be your biggest limiting factor... in combat. Up close, being strong matters A LOT. Major in strength and minor in conditioning and you'll be ahead of 70% of your potential adversaries in that category.

Great video and well thought out self-evaluation method John. I think its a fairly good way to understand opportunities for security growth. I had a failing score of 60 and I agree with the evaluation. Time to get to work. Take care! Home Security: 3 (I have some but not all) Firearms and Blades: 4 (Carry even at home, not at work) Hand to Hand: 3 (A few years in Martial arts, have been in several street fights) Life Style and Choices: 3 (travel and spend time in med/high crime areas due to work) Fitness: 3 (practice cardio and strength training, need to do more) Self Reliance: 3 (live outside of town with two creeks and a lake on property, have preparations) Medical: 2 (carry and placed in key areas, but not fully trained) Situational Awareness: 3 (responsible for a security team so awareness is a must) Fighter Mindset: 4 (have been attacked, robbed, shot, been several car wrecks and fights) Tactics: 2 (need more formal training, I'm in Georgia and need to come to some of your classes)

I ended up with a 44 score. I'm impressed. I scored myself fairly and then lowered it a little to compensate for arrogance. I have many years working as a casino security guard - loads of experience in physically dealing with troublesome people of all shapes, sizes, genders, and fighting skills. I live where I can exist on my land (wildlife/ fresh running water/septic/plants/fuel/ammo/xbow). I practice bushcraft and hunting/trapping on my land. Private gun range. Generator & fuel. Wood stove. Thanks for the test.

I scored low mostly due to health and disabilities...my wife, a Paramedic used to ask me why i have so many knives, provisions, and other unmentionables around the house but she no longer asks....she knows. lol

I honestly scored 80%. I have a few areas to improve. One thing i think many people over look is gardening. Its definitely a critical skill for long term survivial. Yeah youre going to have to get advice from some tree huggers but having the knowledge of cultivating is critical when times get hard rather its personal financial struggle or global melt down. Every prepper/survivalist needs to know how to grow their own food and use the produce to care over to the next season. No one ever talks about this.

Hey, what's wrong with being a tree hugger? I generally like trees more than people. Trees are useful, quiet, and are usually pleasant to be around, unlike some people. :P
