Our take on the Take on Me music video by a-ha! 😊
This is the effect we used for the sketchbook sequences:
• VFX Side Quest | “Take...
All other drawings used in this video (including the entire 30-second cutscene at the beginning) were hand drawn by Byrd Johnson!!

Completely mind blowing that back in the day when that original video was released, that was STATE OF THE ART video effects....and now kids can do the same thing at home. I love technology and I'm glad I'm part of it.

With all the tech we have now, that is affordable or even free, I'm still amazed that we are not seeing more stuff like this, and even more original stuff. An individual in their basement can actually create content that can rival Hollywood production values. With all the discontent we're seeing with the industry offerings, this is the perfect time for indie creators to break out and make a name for themselves.

wasn't so much video effects as hand drawn animation. It's cool a similar look can be created by video effects nowadays but the original and the effort that went into it is still something to behold.

I use to be in the Film Productions class at our school and those moments still live with me today and are genuinely some of my happiest memories. Me and my friends coming up with silly bits to do for the announcements or ads for School Pride Tee-Shirts they were selling at the time. I might still have a few of those saved honestly, I remember them being fun to look back on. I hope this becomes something similar for you looking back years later, and that you never lose your passion for this sort of thing. Either by celebrating that creativity you see in others or expressing yourself in your own way. When you get that feeling to be creative lean into it, and don't let yourself be hindered by what ifs. Theater, Film, AP Art, they all fueled me and kept me going and I met so many amazing people through it all, and in spite of what was going on in my life, I found a way to blossom in the midst of adversity. Because art is larger then life. That's how it should always feel.

If you're producing this sort of quality at school, I hope it is recognised, and that you're considering pursuing this as a career. Having grown up with the original, it still stands as one of the best to this day - and you have managed to replicate it as closely as possible with no (or limited) budget, and still make it your own. It is pretty inspiring to see such excellent work.

I was a kid when this came out, and I think it's amazing too. Also, on my private channel, I have a video I made in University which recreates the Charlie Chaplin style. I rented 2 Charlie Chaplin DVDs and analysed what made them look that way, just to make it. I loved the old world vibe. That's kind of the same thing, though no one alive then would be around still to appreciate it, unlike with this 80's remake!

This is so good, I got goosebumps at the end. It really captures the feel of the original video and I love how you changed up the ending, erasing the frame is such a neat way to break him out. I'm so glad you were able to post this online and it didn't just get to be some soon-forgotten school project, I hope you continue to feel proud of it in future years.

I love this. I was in 3rd grade when that music video came out as well as the song. I can remember seeing it on MTV the first time and that song stayed with me. I am glad young people today are into that music. Thanks for making this video.
