Been living in this broken framework of life for over 50 years. This song is exactly how I think many of us feel. For me; It’s time to take the long way home. Not sure where that is anymore. But I’m certainly tired of feeling like a piece of broken furniture with no way out. This song has become a more meaningful the older I get. It’s prophetic genius that many understand

You are important in this world. There is a plan for you, just don't know what it is and may never know if a smile to a stranger saved their life or your words about this song. It reminds me of a photo of have of my Dad walking alone infront of the real Home Sweet Home back in East Hampton, NY. I think back as he passed at the age of 58, that because he had a sense of humor, I can see now he was the joke of the neighborhood. I also found out after he passed how many people he had helped..he was a good man as I am sure you are good person. I see my Dad in that black & white photo today as taking the long way home. He was a man who never knew how many people's lives he touched and helped during their rough times. You are helping me through the recent loss of my Mom. Hold on. When it is our time, we all take the long way home. You are worth more than you know.

Watch out one of these days you will be 68 like me and still feel the same. Home is in your soul. That is what I have learned. Physically it then does not matter where you are.

For me, I have been having a rough time, and and last night was a breaking point; decisions had to be made. … I couldn’t get this song outta my head, and hadn’t heard it since my tweens. I played it yesterday morning and again this morning and - though grieving - I am… ok with the decisions I made. Music does have charms to soothe.

This song may sound sad to me & make me cry sometimes as it sounds like the story of my life but the lyrics have a happy ending. I used to love taking the long way home before losing the ability to drive due to developing drug resistant absence epilepsy at age 31 after finally getting my simple partial seizures under control caused by the grey matter heterotopia discovered before turning 22 after mistaking them for panic attacks at age 16. I’m 40 now & recently lost my mother to breast cancer but I’d like to thank my great family, friends, & coworkers for making it easier to deal with as I found the real long way home.

Same! I'm 51, and this song will always bring me to tears. My Dad would play it every time he drove his tribe of children home after a weekend visitation with him. Mick (my Dad) died 3 months ago, and I will never hear this song again in the same way.

So many sad people posting their feelings. Brings up that 64 thousand dollar question... what's the point of it all? I'm 66 in a few weeks and I'm still trying to figure that one out. Believers tell you that Jesus and God love us, but we have to live like saints to receive their gift of everlasting life in a paradise Earth. Sixty-six years and I still can't make myself believe in that philosophy. So here we are, still taking the long way...home.
