Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) is a rare disease that affects around 10,000 to 20,000 adult and pediatric patients in the United States. This serious and chronic malabsorption disorder most often occurs when parts of a person’s intestines are surgically removed, leaving some remaining intestine that may not be able to absorb enough nutrients from food and drink.
