Take what happened to Christina Grimmie, for example. Had a crazed fan that was obsessed with her and wanted to be her boyfriend, to the point he got work done to make himself look more attractive. In the end though, he had the mindset of "if I can't have you, no one can". He went to a fan meet after her concert and right as it was his turn to talk to her, she came up to him and was about to give him a hug and he shoots her. Shoots and kills her.

At the end when his daughter said 'You came for me,' I don't know any man that line would have completely cut thru. The toughest though was the girl that had her jacket, how beat up she was, what they did to her. Anyone who has women in his life he loves, that scene doesn't make you sad, it enrages you.
@kylebooker1987 Жыл бұрын
you're goddamn right it enrages you. what liam did in that scene with that guy's wife was completely justified. he injured her to make it clear what he was willing to do, but also knew that he wouldn't have to go any further because what he had done was already enough to cooperate. when you're a parent or if you have someone you care about just as deeply as liam's character cared about his daughter, there is absolutely nothing you won't do to protect them. I think the quote from jaime lannister from game of thrones illustrates this point perfectly. "The things we do for love'.
@KrazzeeKane Жыл бұрын
The toughest part of that scene for me, is the sad fact that if that really happened to my child--despite everything I would want to do, my chances of actually going across seas and successfully rescuing her from the midst of a sex smuggling ring is nil. It's terrifying the helplessness we would feel in real life, when all we would want so badly is to be able to rescue our child just like this, but life isnt a movie. This movie gives a catharsis to that in a sense, which is why it works so well I think

A bit of trivia, the pop singer was actually a pop singer, Australia's Holly Valance. She was on the soapie, Neighbours. Neighbours was a long running show set in a suburb of Melbourne. Other artists that you may know from Neighbours are Kylie Minogue and Natalie Imbruglia. Neighbours was massive in the UK, and pretty much a staple for Aussie viewers after school etc. Home and Away the other (Hemsies). Other actors that got their start on Neighbours are: Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Liam Hemsworth (the Hemsworth family live next door to my mum's best friend), Jesse Spencer and Ben Mendelsohn.

Gouging the eyes is a very good tactic. No one can fight through it. In the climactic scene, Brian waits to shoot when the Shiek starts to talk. This is because to talk requires part of his mind to engage in something besides hurting the girl. It works the same if YOU say something because your target has to listen to what you are saying.

This movie is so iconic, it seems to me like it and its influence on popular culture has been around for much longer than it has. Liam Neeson was perfectly cast. But I do think we can be our own preventers. People have to realize that if someone's offering something (money, material goods, a fun time) seemingly without expecting anything in return, it's a red flag. I think very young, very self-centered, or very gullible people can fall into this trap. Even people who are risk-averse sometimes get into "vacation mode" while traveling and take chances that they wouldn't take in their day-to-day lives. I'm the type of person who won't let a stranger buy me a drink and even I've done some risky stuff in my travels. Got lucky, though. I'm still here! Great reaction, very satisfying to watch!

Bless you both! That was a great watch. And I love your friendship. Taken has a grave impact, also because it strives to be realistic. And sadly, this is exactly how trafficking works in real life. The film took it extremely seriously, hence no ridiculous action or jokes. And it gave just enough of the idea of how evil these acts are, without turning the viewers numb to the horrid things women suffer in these situations. So that's what I always respect about the film: beyond the legendary acting, great writing, etc', Taken honors the topic is deals with and doesn't take it lightly*. * Only the torture scene, it is the censured one... the original is on youtube though: *SPOILER* the original has Liam nailing two huge nails into Marco's knees, and connecting the cables to these. By all means, in reality this would probably be the most intense, prolonged and consistent pain imaginable. The current would always search for the shortest route. It was more brutal, but I think the intensity of the original was exactly what we needed. To tear Marco to shreds and brutalize him, as revenge for desecrating everything humane and tormenting lives for a living. It is also symbolic: Liam (ok, ok, Bryan), can drag Marco to hell with a flip of a switch. Reducing Marco to a miserable shadow of himself is as trivial and easy for him as yawning. But that is what Marco did to countless women, whose suffering was trivial to him.

Wow. Excellent point about the symbolism of the torture scene. It also gives the viewer satisfaction of retribution to the awful person who grabbed Kim. Thanks for watching with us!

@@squashedeyeball I think that I will get the girls to watch Excalibur. Toy traumatized me by getting me to watch The Last of Us premiere, so I'll return the favor.

Fortunately there is a nonprofit organization in Texas that specializes in the tracking , locating and rescue of trafficked American girls and it’s on a level higher than this movie. It was started by a 16 year US Army DELTA Force /CAG Green Team operator /veteran (DELTA Green Team is know as THE most advanced, skilled , trained and deadly Special Operations Force in the world with an average of $35M spent PER operator in trainings and schools. They focus on counterterrorism, hostage rescue , special operations beyond enemy lines. His Carreer was global gaining connections all over the world. They had a number of missions rescuing Afghan girls from ISIS compounds in Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq and he says in the documentary as a father of daughters , the images that haunt his nightmares are the girls they didn’t get to in time and being so sickened at what these ooor girls go throug LJ he wanted to make a difference. He went into the CIA GRS as an Operator globally gaining many more contacts and then retiring after reading an FBI Briefing on human trafficking from the US moving the girls to other countries , into prostitution , brothels and web cam operations and how once these girls slip out of the US it’s nearly impossible to get them back as tue US government won’t assist and countries like Mexico, Brazil, Bulgaria, Latvia, Bosnia , Russia etc don’t cooperate. The briefing talked of an NSA AI based web search program that was developed for finding terrorists but new access for the FBI, essentially HD videos of the missing girl are uploaded and it creates a vocal, physical profile and then searches every social media, escort web page, web cam sites, only fans etc etc if it finds a match the parents confirm & it’s working on location , even said to be able to VPN or not. He contacted a California non profit that helps trafficked girls get their lives back if they want the help and expressed an unbelievable lack of interest and cooperation from most countries they’ve tried to work with . The DELTA vet said that’s when it all came together , if the other non proffit, FBI, family can help locate even generally , he decided there was no better casue then bringing a girl home and out of terror , “handling” those responsible is the greatest joy he’s had in his life aside from his own daughters. The other org was so excited to have access to such an asset. He went to several of his DELTA Teamates asking if they be interested and 5 DELTA vets jumped on board. Sometimes acting as douche bag Americans on vacation looking for particularly American underage girls get visual confirmation. And then “take care of it” or they perform undercover hostage recon and rescue. They fly privately , have contacts meet them with weaponry/kit , people to get them in and out and , no ROE’s , extraction. So as of a few years ago, parents that have had children taken now have a non profit group they can turn to if people won’t help them nor agencies. He said when words gotten out of some of the successful rescues globally as a nonprofit has brought a number of high end donors and philanthropists donating . All funds go to rescues and the girls all hospital stays/bills are donated by a local hospital near their HQ . The documentary is on KZbin and takes you undercover to rescue a teen in Taiwan. Amazing amazing warrior that literally goes the “Taken” route of rescue blowing it up to a large nonprofit. Anyone that truly needs their help they are there!
