The bonus rules we use for Takenoko to make it more fun and harder to cheese panda cards to win are. Panda can't eat the last shoot on a tile, you can't claim a 2nd objective card for your hand until you have 1 of each other type, and can't claim a 3rd unless you have 2 of each other type. And scoring 1 of each objective type gives 3xp more. The last time i played Takenoko without these rules was at an event where each game was scored, i did the food strategy and it was a horribly one sided win for me.

I like this idea.

Interesting rule. Thank you for the video by the way!

2 of those are optional rules in the expansion by the designer, the 3rd one about claiming cards is our own extra step on top

One of my family’s favorites. My wife and I even had custom Mr & Mrs Panda statues made as cake toppers for our wedding!

“This one scares panda…and he eats a bamboo to calm down.” Sounds like me and panda have some things in common. Thanks for the video. I have been pondering this one for a while…

Did you buy it yet? If not, I highly recommend it, this is a fantastic game! Imo it's similar to Catan but far less boring

I am picking up this game tomorrow just based on the art. It looks so adorable!

Yes! This is why we got it to start with. My partner saw it and went "gimme!"

@3MBG I feel like nowadays I won't buy certain games if I don't like the art. It either makes me shallow or mature

Panda's tummy contents? That gives the act of scoring panda objectives a whole new meaning. (Panda fertilizer!)

Yep, makes sense for the gardner to score points that way

Such a fun family game, cool video! 🐼

Okay from the sounds of it this would have been super easy to solo a bit too between the limited number of actions and the objectives to complete

It's 11 years old. So not surprised it didnt come with one. Probably a fan one out there

I saw Shelfside’s review on this & they said that you can play this competitively, like when you memorize the cards & you are trying to prevent other players from scoring or something. Do you think it’s possible?
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
It definitely is. We use the optional rules and house rules in my pinned comment to make the game more competitive and less focused on one strategy as well

Fun Fact: you actually pronounce it like Ta-Ke-No-Ko at the same pace, not Ta-Ke-Noo Ko.

Fair, and i should know that as the vowel sounds are really similar to Te Reo Māori ones. It's this weird commonality between the two languages that the short vowels sound have a lot in common. A word in te reo like Koromiko is pronounced at the same sort of short clip as Takenoko.
