Holding black men accountable for gun violence isn’t anti-black, and I say this with absolute love for you and the community. Stats prove that black men have similar rates of gun violence as white men despite being a much smaller group within the US population. Other groups have their problems but because black folks have it hardest in this system, the last thing we need is for them to add to the already high incarceration and fatherless home rates. Nonblacks are never in the vicinity of black violence, and we have to accept that. We will continue to suffer if we don’t.

There are multiple things that have led to a crime like this. I just don’t think is productive to not recognize that certain members of society are simply violent, and combined with the fact that these creatures are out here having access to weapons… it’s a VERY scary thing/thought. Let’s not drink the kool aid, y’all. People are really out here hurting each other, not the state or agencies. And to have a discussion, or different opinions about it, does not mean that a person is being anti 🕳️

OMG I still remember the moment it was announced when Aaliyah passed. I was 14, watching the playoffs between the Sixers and Lakers and they’d gone into overtime. Breaking news came across the ticker tape and it still haunts me when I think of it. Less than a week later, I flew alone for the first time and kept feeling like I was gonna crash. A couple weeks after that, I started high school. A day later, 9/11 happened. 2001 was a wonky ass year

BOTH can be true. We as a community with be a target no matter what to some degree AND also we have to take some accountability within our own community. We have a toxic portion of the rap industry and black male culture that we need to address. Holding our own inner issues accountable is not anti-black.

@fruitmonsterfly12 жыл бұрын
Black on Black crime is a "thing" like Latino on Latino crime is a thing or White on White crime. The majority of the US is super segregated and people of the same race tend to live together, so if someone commits a crime against you, it's most likely that they will look like you. The issue is that "Black on Black crime" is highlighted as if we commit more crime against each other than other races, or that we are more prone to violence against each other than other races when that is not true. It makes us seem more dangerous and more stupid to be frank. That's why it's not a thing and it's merely a WS talking point. I hope this makes sense.

I agree with some of the sentiments and think the two issues are separate. There's a disconnect when wealthy black men who should be in separate spaces and escape some systemic pressures should escape the ills that afflict those in poverty and beaten down by the system. But who do we blame when these men keep dying from gun violence esp. from their own. R.I.P takeoff 🙏🙏

@MightyTameLion2 жыл бұрын
I understand your perspective and I agree, there is nuance in the conversation of poverty and violence in the black community.But, at some point we should be able to acknowledge that there is an issue with the "culture" in the black community. BM need more male role models, therapy, and discipline. Gun control is definitely an issue, but if you have the same disposition, that gun can easily be replaced with another weapon.

I literally said the same exact words yesterday about Halloween!!! Like are y’all actually having fun or you just wanting attention and participation points just because everybody else is doing something and you feel like you have to in order to fit in. Like are people even going out in these “costumes” and actually having fun or are they just doing it for a photo shoot and taking it off just to post online… and Most of these photo shoots seem so forced and not at all authentic. We are really living in a time where the fun has been sucked out of everything all for social media attention. It’s ruining all things and this is why I reminisce so much about the 90s and 2000s. Ugh🙄
