Taking A Day Off At My Tiny House | Cooking With Homegrown Food and Celebrating Summer Solstice

It is now summer soltice in my forest and also time to take a day off and enjoy the summer at my offgrid homestead in the forest. I celebrate the midsummer and summer solstice with a day of cooking wild food over open fire, enjoying the produce from my forest garden and also the deer that I slaughtered this winter.

In New Zealand, we've just celebrated winter solstice. Our lives are polar opposites 🥰 Can I ask, did you buy the piece of land that you're on? Here in NZ, the cost of land is extremely expensive and the local government in some regions wouldn't allow tiny houses anyway. I rent a piece of land that I park my caravan on, and I pay $205 per week, so parking on someone's land is expensive.

Haha, yeah I know! I started school in Palmerston North actually when I was six! And yes, I did buy it, just before the prices really went up during corona lockdown. I'm sad to hear that it is so expensive, it has also gotten worse here.

@@andersboisentinyhouse I'm glad for your fortune and that you were able to secure land prior to the price increase. I hope one day you'll run some courses where you teach permaculture on your property. I met a guy once who did that here in NZ, but he inherited the farmstead from his parents. Most people my age can't afford a homestead here.

How do potatoes grow like that? On top of the ground, not attached to the plant? Was that staged for the show?

I grow my potatoes in two ways in my garden. Most of them are grown in a permaculture hugelkultur, as you can see in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJDXaX6bd8-Jf9ksi=6ho7w2WvYaNmwc9K I also grow some directly in small piles of horsemanure! The potatoes in the hugelkultur really grow well and are pretty big👌😊
