I recently found one of those printers by a dumpster. I plugged it in and powered it up. And the orange light says check paper, but I can't figure out how to load paper in it.

I have the 1350, looks identical and works in win11 but only if I install specific intel all in one software. I dont think the full drivers are installed but win 11 prints with refillable ink ok. In 10 it wasnt working with the official drivers alone (it would blink with the ink related error, likely down to the cartridge)

HP charges way too much for these "retro" ink cartridges. This looks exactly like my grandma's printer, except the labels/port on the front and top. Very cool!

Which OS version was installed on the PC that was controlling the HP PSC1315? Where did you download the proper device drivers? I tried to connect my PSC1315 via USB to a laptop running Windows 10 Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1247) but I was unable to find updated drivers for the printer, so that it keeps being listed with an exclamation mark as "psc 1310 series" under "Other devices"

HP's website says to use Windows built-in method for Windows 10. Windows 10 tells me to go to manufacturer's website for instructions. Hmmmm.... I guess it's too late for Windows. But in Linux, we party in hplip. Support there is much better than for Windows with most HP printers if not all. Just install hplip (driver) and hplip-gui (debian)/hp-toolbox (Arch) (the control program) and that will do everything needed. Nothing for Windows. Sorry.

@@lukmly013 The drivers for it are on Windows Update and Windows should automatically find them (if not you can download the cab file manually and add the driver to the Print Server on Windows, Scanning utilities are available elsewhere such as NAPS2. I have installed printers this way with just the driver for quite a while now and a 3rd party scanning utility and it works really well (only thing you can't do easily is check reported ink levels but I certainly don't do that).

My sister gave me this exact printer and the disc to use to download doesn't support my OS Windows 10, how did you get your grandparents printer to work on your OS, my mother passed away 2 years ago and I have to scan all her important papers to my laptop and put them on a flash drive, can you please help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

You use a printer cable. One end goes into the printer and the other end goes into the laptop. The end of the cable that has a USB port is the one that goes into the laptop.

You did this wrong. Using color copy doesn't really show you the printing capabilities, rather the scanning capabilities. You have to print it directly from computer for comparison. This printer can print pretty nicely, I have this one. But the scanner is only useful for b/w documents.
