When riding with a new friend (young or old), it's best to assure them that you are happy riding any speed they choose. You may have to hold your tongue but it will make the best and safest experience for the other person.

Oh, she knew well before we left that she should ride her own ride and not be concerned with keeping up with me. Not our first time riding together...Just the first time past the front range for her. And we’ve been friends most of our lives so we don’t know how to hold back our thoughts from each other hahahaha!

Greetings, as a longtime rider came upon your video. My bikes of choice are of the higher performance metric variety, and currently own 2 Kawasaki sportbikes. Also when I have time to book a track day riding on a racetrack, I ride in the " B" group, so I'm not the slowest one out there. So I guess I'm a little qualified to give a couple comments. Absolutely beautiful scenery, but I was taken aback a bit by the idea of pushing someone if they are not ready to ride that route. If you are truly that scared, what fun is it? I am much older than you, but I am SO grateful I learned decades ago how to ride, when you learned gradually, on smaller bikes, first riding in the dirt. the emphasis was on having fun, and enjoying yourself. It's so much more about ego now. A lot of the time you spent filming Your 50 dollar meal ( that's a LOT for lunch!) you could have maybe used most of that time maybe explaining maintenance of the bikes, riding gear, etc.Or going over parts of a motorcycle ( frame, swingarm, front forks, etc. ) Also, out of curiosity, maybe current temperature, I saw much snow. It also looked like you were having cocktails, then riding ???? Maybe you then lounged for hours before continuing, but still I would not recommend drinking and riding, especially to a newer rider. I'm glad you wear proper gear, and you stay within posted speed limits. Once more, the sencery was absolutely stunning, we have nothing like that in Wisconsin. I liked the way you used good old fashioned maps to map out your ride, I still use them too! Keep videos coming, stay safe! Cheers!!!!!!

Hi! I didn’t push her any more than she wanted to be. She asked me to go with her so she wasn’t alone and she knew it was my favorite loop! She’s actually been my friend since we were 13, or as she says “before we had periods” hahaha so trust me when I say, we have had sooooooooo many conversations and rides prior to this video. And we still ride together and she’s improved so much! So proud of her! Thanks for watching 😊

let the new rider lead the way, take the lead at junctions, traffic merging just ask them to follow your tail, other wise let ride in front, then alternate so they see how you position your bike in the traffic lane, from this we learn, be prepared to stop more frequently, nice part of world

So cool. On one of my Leadville rides, I went to that bar in the early afternoon. I ended up across the road at the motel, so I could park the bike and drink the night away / keep up with the locals. Checkout came real early the next day... I've been riding since about '82, I've never led a new / newer rider. Good for both of you!

Firstly communication is important. Then let them lead so you see their skill level. Patience is important as many newbies can be difficult to deal with. Advise with compassion so that her confidence will build up to want to ride with you again. Lastly encourage her to practice her slow speed maneuvers so that she can build her own self confidence.

@@ridetofood actually no but was just making observations so that in future these can be done. I know you did but some new riders don’t ride outside there comfort zone. In order to gain confidence and build skill level they need to be confident and ride a bit outside their comfort level and challenge themselves. What I admired was your patience with her. Great .

I lived in Leadville for 10+ years and volunteered as a rescue EMT, there are some very dangerous curves coming down from Independence on the way into Twin Lakes. More than a few times we got called out to crashes for bikers that missed curves due to high speed, glad you all made it down safely. Quincy's is pretty good, not too much on the menu when I lived there - steak and potato and a wedge of lettuce. The Silver Dollar was my fav bar back then too.

I love that you mention riding at the proper RPMs. Most stick shift car drivers would tell you that somewhere around 2,500 rpm is a shift point for daily driving in a car. Lots of car drivers then do the same on a bike. Harley in particular typically ride smoothest at 3,000 to 3,5000 RPM. Especially on a windy mountain road, a little higher RPM doesn’t hurt. Another great video! I wanna ride that ride now.

I think you know how I feel about riding with anyone (friend or novice). I enjoy the "one-day" road trips that comprise at most 6 round trip hours. I despise riding with anyone for any longer than that (they had better be a real good friend and we both can handle each other's way of riding over long distances). With that in mind, I truly admire your willingness to take on a novice rider on a trip like this. I am sure she learned much from your riding and experience.

You will definitely get even better as you get some more hours on the saddle.. great Job!” All that “constructive criticism” was more like complaining and a lack of patience on your part not at all a new rider issue. The girl did great and exactly what she was supposed to do within her abilities and the speed limit. All that was demoralizing to that poor girl no matter how nonchalant she may have acted. Nice ride! I’ve been over Independence Pass quite a few times. Almost forgot about the narrow single lane section on the Aspen side. I love riding in Colorado but even though I’m an old timer I can relate to your friend. I’m certainly not speedy in mountainous areas. I live in central Illinois where it’s as flat as a pool table and there are only 2 minor curves in my town! The scenery in Colorado can also be a hazard. I remember gawking at the scenery while riding the Million Dollar Highway only to realize almost too late that I was coming up on a curve way too hot. Maybe Colorado ATGATT should include a parachute!

Not a dumb question at all 😊 I just mean that I’m used to riding at a faster pace, so riding slowly and overly cautious is not fun for me. As a new rider those things should definitely be prioritized though! So basically it’s mentally tough to ride that slow. It’s the equivalent to sitting in traffic for me.

I choose to ride alone simply because I’ve never had the good fortune of being able to keep up yet enjoy the ride. Put two or more bikers in a group with a destination and it quickly becomes a race. I’ve bailed out of more group rides then I’ve completed and I quit riding interstates years ago right about the time someone invented the cell phone.
