How to solve this type of problem: I have surfaces "A" and "B". Surface "B" has a hole inside of it (this is very important), lets say like ring or donut. To simplify, surface "A" is bottom of cup, and surface "B" is wall of that cup (wall is not vertical, it has a slope 1.5:1). They are created in separate files. I want to create surface "C" pasting surfaces "A" and "B". To do this, I created new file, new surface "C", imported surfaces "A" and "B" using data reference. In term of definition "C", I must first paste surface "A", and then paste surface "B" (in that exact order, let me not explain to you why, just take it for granted). But, when I paste surface "B" after pasting surface "A", surface "C" gets the same hole inside of ring, instead of elevations from "A". How to force Civil 3D to have elevations from "A", instead of hole from "B" in that area? I am designing a regional landfill, and things are not simple at all, but I simplify to you as much as I can.

Hi Mr. Jeff, thanks for that informative tutorial! i have a querry regarding surfaces, this might be a long shot and i hope you understand what iam trying to convey. first of all i have an existing surface, from that surface i will make a corridor (existing road) and from that corridor i can provide a surface. now i have an existing surface and a corridor surface. basically from the corridor surface i can get the cut values against the existing surface. here's where it gets a bit tricky for me, i will make another corridor based on the profile of the existing corridor but this time it will be in a different assembly(depth and width). when i do the cut values for the new corridor how can i exclude the cut values from the previous corridor? i tried making a composite surface out of the existing surface and corridor surface but i think some quantities get overlooked. i hope you understand what iam tryin to convey. sorry for the long question. -erwindavid
