Today, we're taking cordyline cuttings and performing a bit of an experiment in the process. 😉 We wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to remove tons of new buds and leaves but we couldn't find any research on how to take cuttings this way, so we did it anyway! Watch as we show you our process and follow along in future videos on their progress! 😊
And, make sure to leave us any comments or questions below, and thank you for watching! 👋😀

Update: We didn't do an update on this video and need to let you know that none of our cuttings actually grew roots or survived after taking the cuttings this way. 😭😭 So, if you do try this method (which there was no literature to back up taking cuttings this way), make sure to harvest even more tissue or "woody" tissue when carving these off the mother plant. We think this is why we didn't get any to root. Also, we weren't able to keep them consistently watered. The soil around the plant tissue dried out too many times and it would have probably helped to keep these in a more humid-protected location with no direct sunlight until they started rooting. Hope that helps and good luck with making new plants! 👍🏼👍🏼😮😉

Thank you so much for this. I live in the UK and the snow killed off my cordylines this year. Now that we are in the summer, I have noticed that I have these fantastic new sprouts (or suckers as I believe they are called). They look like perfectly formed mini cordylines themselves. I wasn't sure what to do with them. This is perfect, thank you.

Hi Tanyabradley5414!! 👋🏼👋🏼 Thank you for watching and for saying that. Sorry to hear your Cordylines didn't make it through the winter. We didn't do an update on this video and need to let you and everyone else know that none of our cuttings actually grew roots and survived after taking the cuttings this way. So, if you do try this method (which there was no literature to back up taking cuttings this way), make sure to harvest even more tissue or "woody" tissue when carving these off the mother plant. @@SpokenGarden Thanks for the update. it's a pity but I guess its a % game with large numbers needed to get one or two new clones.

You guys are great. How did this cordy experiment turn out? I am looking to do exactly this. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I live in the northwest as well and my in-ground cordyline is doing the same thing. I have been wondering if it would be possible to divide off the profusion of new buds. I think I will try a few and see how it goes!

is it normal to be able to see small white roots around a cordyline plant potted plant. Its a kiwi in a pot thats doing really well under my grow light's. All around a decent size pot i can see whispy roots. Is that normal. Apart from that its thriving with lots of off shoots that im going to leave until it warms up. Id really like to send you a picture

This was an experiment...did it work? Is there a follow-up video?

Hi LalaJ109!! 👋🏼👋🏼 It was a fun experiment, and thank you for reminding us to post about it. Unfortunately, none of our "cuttings" made it. They didn't root. So, no new plants to show. 😮But, it was fun to try and see if we could do it, because there was no mention of making cuttings in this manner, but we wanted to try and see if we could make new plants in this way. Gotta keep experimenting, because even if the literature doesn't back it up doesn't mean it can't be done. 😀😉
