Hocus Pocus is NOT a movie meant to be taken that seriously. It’s just a fun time. However! Being the person that I am, I can’t help but overthink things. And in the spirit of Halloween, why not discuss what’s probably my favorite Halloween movie? Yes, even more than Halloween Town. The Sanderson Sisters are the unofficial mascots of Halloween, so let this be their time to shine!

@@starfilmstudio5615 even then we are supposed to forgive. Don't get me wrong, though! It's not always easy to forgive. It may take practice and it may take time to do so, but it's still something to do. I can't tell you what to do, but Christ teaches me to forgive since He not only forgave me, but people who have done terrible things. If He can forgive, then I have no right not to since He forgave me. My aunt killed someone, actually, and she's been in jail for a while. I've forgiven her and still talk to her sometimes. Forgiving someone doesn't mean letting them have their way and it doesn't mean you can't stand up for yourself. It means letting go of that anger and not letting it consume you or letting it occupy your heart. It is freeing yourself and the one who wronged you from that prison.

I remember seeing this movie for the first time with friends and saying how "I Put a Spell on You" sounded more like a hero song than a villain song. My friends were confused and I couldn't explain it at the time, but I now know why I thought that. The song, or at least the music, is so upbeat and high-energy, and few villain songs are like that. I think that's one of the reasons why it stood out so much.

I did not care for Hocus Pocus 2. I didn't understand why my mom and my littlest sister liked it when it just felt like nothing happened (other than the girl bosses and boys being dumb). I enjoyed this video though, and I loved your Halloween design 😍 it's just so cute!

I truly did not understand the redemption Arc they tried in the second movie. Maybe it could have worked if better executed, but at the end of the day, they still ate kids! And showed no remorse for it!

🕯 Even though I totally agree with your criticisms and you even opened my eyes to some plot holes I hadn't noticed before, I too really enjoy the original movie! I didn't like the sequel as much ("girlboss" movies annoy me to death as well 🙄), but it did have its moments. I particularly enjoyed the opening with the young Sanderson sisters, and that was largely thanks to the fact that the young actresses who played them absolutely NAILED their parts! I'd actually wouldn't mind if Hocus Pocus 3 or a future spinoff was a prequel/midquel focused more on their early days, instead of a continuation to the second movie, but only time will tell. I loved how you mentioned the Villain Spectacular as well. I've never seen it in person, but I do watch the recording on KZbin almost every year around Halloween time xD It's just a lot of fun. Another great and entertaining video from you , as well as a really adorable and well-done artwork made for it! 😁

I haven't seen Hocus Pocus 2, but I like the idea of old witches vs new witches. Like, imagine if the new witches unlocked their witch powers after being dormant throughout their bloodline for so long, and it absolutely scares them because of what they know about the Sanderson Sisters. I think it would be a great conflict showing the temptation to abuse witch powers like the sisters did, vs the new generation reintroducing these powers as a force of good.

That's a rather surprising coincidence my birthday is on the 20th of October but i was born in 2000. The halloween movie we used to watch was Casper the friendly ghost (or something? I kind of forgot the title) and 1980s ghostbuster but the most memorable movies from my childhood was actually a christmas movie, the Home alone series especially 1&2, Home alone 3 was fine but it didnt have the same charm as the original. Home alone 4 is just a snooze fest, very effective if you want to put children to sleep.

🕯 You know, despite the fact that this video is mostly you talking about the things you don't like about the movie(s), it actually made me want to watch Hocus Pocus 1 and 2 since I never did before. The Writers at disney need to be told about the moral event horizon, where a characters actions have gone too far for redemption. See Kylo Ren 100% B*****d through and through.

I don't necessarily believe that. I think anyone can be redeemed/reformed BUT when it comes to telling stories, you have to make it make sense and be satisfying. You can't just have a villain character say "I'm good now!" And not show the attempts to be good or the regret for being bad or the road to becoming that new good person. There has to be a logical reason for the change and for there to be a natural progression in characterization from evil to good. Like I said in the video, it wasn't explicitly said that Winnie was trying to reform it regretted her actions, but putting her in a positive sympathetic light at the last second because she was sad and giving the impression that she's "not so bad" felt weird to me. It's hard to fully articulate is all XD Nevertheless, the Sanderson sisters don't need to be good or even sympathetic. We can just have fictional villains who like being bad and just leave it at that.

This is kinda funny. Of course the movie isn’t gonna make sense as well as the second movie lost a lot of the charm of the first but I still liked it nonetheless. (Edit also on the topic of sympathy for the sisters I like an unapologetic bad guy or girl or whatever but also women in the time Salem witch trails were very prevalent were very known to only be married off because that’s what women were only good for back then. Marrying a man and having children which is good on your own accord but isn’t good if it’s forced upon you. That aspect I like about the sisters and the second movie and how witches are, but I also dislike the book wasn’t given to them by Satan anymore himself which made their evilness more interesting.)

🕯If I can ask , I haven't seen this movie but I've heard that a certain critic *cough Doug Walker cough* complained that everyone in the movie is constantly making fun of Max for being a virgin. Is that true?

They aren't really making fun of him for it. Like, they don't laugh at him or demean him due to his virginity. In order for the witches to return, a virgin has to light the candle. And since Max is the one who did it, a couple of characters, Dani and Binx, call him a virgin out of annoyance. They say it in a more lighthearted way later on, but it's more poking fun at a dumb mistake he made. They aren't making fun of his virginity. They are poking at the fact that he's the one who made the stupid mistake of lighting the candle. Dani is too young to even know what a virgin is. So she's just calling her brother what she knows he is, again, to poke him for making an oppsie.
