@thecontrarian63634 ай бұрын
@@chuckthebrindlepittie6820, totally agree. Also, I think you and I had a chat going a few weeks back on a previous vlog entry from Noah. We were evaluating him and his content from a project management perspective. I apologize that I never responded in full (due to work and other obligations), but you provided some of the most substantive and objective points and inputs out of any of these other commenters (who are seemingly dedicated to unceasing hero worship of Noah just because he’s “Brian’s son” even though “the emperor’s son wears no clothes”).
@thecontrarian63634 ай бұрын
@@chuckthebrindlepittie6820 , you never have to worry about being disputatious with me. In fact, I again appreciate the constructive, substantive conversation more than you know - as there are *far* more volatile individuals and stakeholders in life where even the smallest attempt at reason falls on deaf ears. Your ideas absolutely were not poorly expressed either. However, to clarify my position: While I held Brian in very high regard, I was absolutely aware that he was not perfect. His visionary/“Big Ideas”-by-the-truckload modus operandi without effective program/project management as it relates to the Legasea is the clearest manifestation of said imperfection. His family who is still in the business and staff are sadly left trying to finish what Brian the Giant started, and will be dealing for years with the effects of blown schedule, huge cost overruns, and seemingly endless scope creep. However, I would like to learn more from you as to where you think his animal husbandry was lacking. Yes, I’ve read that using rack systems is the reptile industry equivalent of “politically incorrect” in today’s world, but I’m not sure how else Brian as a breeder was supposed to stay in business. Rack systems allowed him to operate at scale within limited space constraints and efficiently manage thousands of snakes at a given time. The bins housing the snakes in said racks also was scaled to most of the snakes’ size, and were cleaned/refreshed as needed. If Brian as a breeder had prioritized what current reptile hobbyists desire (e.g. transparent enclosures with built-in enrichment opportunities, affixed climbing edifices, and base substrate/flora/foliage) for each of his thousands of snakes….well, it would have killed his business model. Why? Imagine the level of effort and time allocation having to maintain even 1 of those modern enclosures, and multiple that by thousands. You and I both know that equation cannot and would not close, and Brian would thus have had to significantly either slashed the number of snakes (thereby raising the cost per remaining snake and passing said cost to We The Buyers, thus eating into his pricing competitiveness) and or significantly added more staff (thus significantly eating into his profit margin). That said, again, I’d be interested to know how you would have done what Brian did differently, and how you as a breeder would have maintained cost structure and profit margin. Regarding any manipulation, I fully acknowledge that Brian was a master showman at one moment, while effectively showing in the next an uncanny ability to star in one of the many PBS fundraising drives in the next. Was it always intended to be manipulative? Absolutely not. Could he have used his particular gifts of gab and “reading the room” for manipulative purposes? He sure could have. Then again, if we were in a similar spot, would we have behaved any differently given the fierce competition in the reptile industry and the current economic challenges hitting society? I’m not at all saying I would engage in manipulation, and I’m not trying to justify Brian potentially doing so, but I’m just trying to point out why he might have from the perspective of a business owner who had no end of Big Ideas. Again, if you can point to clear areas where he was manipulative, I’d be happy to reconsider my above-position and have any blind spots on my end corrected as well! Have a great night!
