I have to agree with the France 2022 away shirt. I've never seen such subtle intricacies on an otherwise unassuming football shirt before. The first time I saw it in the flesh I just couldn't stop staring at it, all those depictions of French culture are like nothing else. I'd go as far to say it's in my top 10 shirts of the last 20 years. Absolutely cracking shirt.

Got into your channel as we are now distributing the Meyba brand in SE Asia. However, have always been a huge Kit fan ever since my 1st kit which was an Everton Umbro Kit from 1977 followed by the Admiral Man U kit from 1978 and my fave of all time the Ipswich Adidas Silky number from 1980 - your depth of knowledge and experience and the insights you provide make your channel compelling viewing. Thanks for sharing. BTW, love that you have the Duggee and the Squirrels in the background!

A good example is my team sheffield united's away kit from this season. It's based off the away kits of the 70s which were a wite base with a black/red diagonal stripe. Errea have taken that and given it a more "modern" collar and cuffs and changed the stripe from diagonal to a straight down centre stripe. Feels like the shirts of the 70s whilst still looking and feeling like its own thing

Really great to see some kits which have also been covered by Hummel in their behind the chevrons series!

I honestly liked the nod to the 80s Coventry shirt. It’s not my club, but I like the nostalgia of the shirt design, although I understand that the original kit manufacturer wasn’t the same. It’s always a problem when a new manufacturer gets the contract, and they have to « respect » the traditional design and colours … not really much scope for them to be really innovative in that sense, but certainly the finer details could be worked on in greater depth

I believe the pattern in the Coventry stripes and inner are representative of the stained glass windows of Coventry cathedral and not a street plan. Love your videos.

Another great video, thank you! Following on from your point at the beginning regarding Hummel sailing too close to Admiral's wind (oo-er!). I was really surprised to see the big boys do it more recently. Nike's first Liverpool kit from 20/21 featured a green trim that was actually the adidas Equipment *brand* colour back in the early 90s. Not stopping there, if rumours are to be believed, the upcoming Liverpool away kit by Nike is going to be a 'homage' to the 1996 adidas away kit that feature the green and white quarters. adidas are no angels though! This year's Arsenal training shirt features a lightening/zigzag pattern front and center which is a homage to the pattern that Nike introduced in their first Arsenal kit back in the 90s. I'm surprised the creative directors of these giants allowed the immitation of their direct rival's designs. Are you?

BRØNDBY IF current 2022/23 away kit is one that i feel is really unique this season. It's a graffiti style graphic which captures the club's heritage, culture and fans. Is a navy blue and yellow style. Personally one of the best kits of the season in my opinion. If you've not checked it out you should also made by hummel. I like collecting kits myself and just stumbled on the channel so look forward to more videos.

I'd like teams to do things like de-boss a map of the local area, with the stadium being placed where the badge sits. Elements like stadium bracing could surround the neckline, and the shirt should be reversible. There's no reason why it can't be done, Liverpool's recent shirt with the orange trim had an orange liner, that could easily have been an away colour scheme instead for the SAME COST.

I think there is something to be said about adding in nostalgia elements. I dont really like direct copies!

Matchwinner doing something interesting in bringing back classic designs that they did for teams years ago. Not being used on pitch though which is a shame for some of them

Love these videos but there's one thing I think that would elevate these videos would be when you are referencing other kits, to use a Getty image or something of what you are referencing. You talk about the 1978 Coventry kit, for international, younger or not in the know viewers, they won't be able to relate with what you are referencing. The same goes for at 6:14 you mention a French kit; which kit? Just a thought but keep up the great content guys.

Thanks - that's a really good shout. We try to use images where we can (more in our recent videos) but sometimes we run into issues. We'll explore it further though, based on your feedback. Cheers!

What do you think of Nike’s “reinterpretation” of the 2002 template that will be used in the Women’s World Cup?

Have to say, as a Leeds fan, the garbage that Adidas throw out about heritage and harking back to classic kits, whilst unveiling the outrageously bad 'mouldy cheese' away kit this year has been hard to take

Once a football club run for 20years the kit designer is on the save hands coz for the following year kit designer can simply take the design from the 1st year, give it a little tweak and say hey here is the new kit we going back to the roots 😂

Looking at that Everton kit, Hummel goes hard with designs for lower league teams with really bespoke designs . . . . wonder what happened with such a lazy effort on the Everton kit
@seanmmccarthy Жыл бұрын
Perhaps the kit designers aren't going as deep as you'd like in some of their kits because the kits are only around for one season - so it maybe too much work and effort. If kits were used for 2 seasons and the Home and Away swap in alternate years you might find that those deeper levels are more worth that time and effort?
@craigbuglass7072 Жыл бұрын
I’d love to go back to longer serving kits and the brands/clubs should be doing this with everything that’s going on in the world. The only thing I’d say is that no matter how many kits are released there should always be something special, good design is not based on time imo.

Just respect the identity of the club and don’t do what Nike is doing to Barça oder Atletico. If a team wears stripes don‘t change it, no hoops, no checkers, no zigg/zagg lines and so on. Max what’s acceptable is to do half/half

Greetings Craig and Rob - The Stade Rennais Puma shirt in 2019/2020 season had a mosaic detail based on the work of Isidore Odorico, who was associated with the club as player and President in the early 1900s, and left his architectural footprint and design in buildings around the city.
