Did you measure the height of the grass after mowing? Generally the actual height of cut with a reel is going to be lower than the nominal height of cut.

I've asked a few KZbinrs already about what they spend on fert, chems, and other maintenance items per year per 1000 sq/ft. I've got a decent lawn and spend about $12-$15 per year, per 1000, not counting 1 time costs like seed, renovations, sprayers, mowers, etc..Wondering what it takes to get to that next level. Small additions are pretty costly to me since I maintain about 30,000 sq/ft

So is PGR the secret to getting the turf so tight? I cut at 1.75”, 100% KBG from sod, it’s been 1.5yrs and it still seem to only grow up and not fill in as much as I expected.
@LAWNLIFE2 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. I've noticed very frequent cuttings help more than anything. How often do you mow? PGR definitely would help though. It's supposed to help it tiller. But mine came in super thick by cutting it low over and over without pgr
@homer009x2 жыл бұрын
I rotary mow at the lowest setting every 3-4 days. Never more than 1/3. 1lb of N granular every 6 weeks. Spray iron and humic regularly. Irrigated. Soil test showed ph 8, K low, everything else within range. The KBG still isn’t spreading.
@LAWNLIFE2 жыл бұрын
@@homer009x where are you located? Sounds like it actually might need more N than you're giving it. Does it look healthy? You're gonna want to get your pH down also.
@homer009x2 жыл бұрын
@@LAWNLIFE I’m in Canada, so short season but the summer isn’t as hot. It looked very healthy this spring, solid dark green. But then seed heads came and that sucked the colour out, have a bunch of yellow dry stalks. Same thing last year. The yellow just persists. Not sure what to try: cytokinins, PGR or switching to spoon feeding N (I still have a lot of granular to go through)
@LAWNLIFE2 жыл бұрын
@@homer009x if you have cool temps sticking around for awhile I would hit it with a lb of N per k and see how it reacts. Obviously it won't help the yellow stalks but stay on top of mowing and see if that helps with the tillering. Mow every 2 to 3 days. Definitely wait for the fall if temps are in the high 80's and 90s though
