My “first car” was an 81 Camaro, so it’s the same as the one you want, I say “first” because the car in which I learned to drive and drove for a couple months was a 2007 GMC Canyon, obviously with all the modern day car accommodations, then I bought the camaro, I’m 18 and gotta say that if you don’t have previous mechanical knowledge nor somebody that could help you with it, Get the car as your “second” because these engines (old school small block chevys) tend to be “reliable” buuuut at the same time they are prone to fail in some stuff that if you don’t know what could be the problems you will end up having the car in your driveway or towed to it without being able to drive it and that could make you say “fuck this” and leave the car or sell it haha, I could tell you that because mine has made me say that a couple times, or the other option would be to directly buy a camaro without engine nor transmission and do the good ol LS Swap to have a reliable but fun car, that’s my plan with mine, putting a 6.0 on it and make it my kind of daily car, good luck!!!

Esdras Montoya yeah, I ended up starting with a Honda Accord lol, I got tired of the small inline 4 so as soon as I got the chance I bought a green 1994 camaro z28 with a blown head gasket. The way I looked at it was, I could be a young kid spending all my time working to pay off debt just so I can drive the car I want, or I can buy a project, fix it up for way less then I would’ve paid for one in a good condition. I ended up coming across an ad on Craigslist for an lt1 engine cammed with 1:6:1 rockers and a 58mm throttle body for pretty cheap so I picked it up, and I just finished swapping the whole engine, it worked out pretty well, only thing now is I’m trying to figure out why my starter is cranking the engine slow (doesn’t start because of that) I’ve checked the battery, I’m gonna check the starter in a bit (it’s a new one so I doubt it’s the starter) and then check all the pulleys to see if anything’s stuck (it’s not the engine either because it moves freely when outside of the car) hopefully I can figure it out and I’ll be a 16 year old rolling around in a cammed camaro, probably one of the wildest situations you can put a kid in lol. Second gen camaro is still on my list for cars I want later down the line, along with a 70s beetle lol, hopefully I can finish my project now and come across another one.

have u ever seen a 79 z28 rs t top with full spoiler kit from factory were it has spoilers in front and in back of all wheels i got one for free needs motor work good clean body but i just happen to have a 454 stroker sitting have 4 speed or a heavy duty 400 turbo plus i got a hard top z28 with it one is auto and the other is a 4 speed witch is the t top with extra front clip have tunnel ram and carbs new interior but carpet so far i have no money in it . best way to get motors for free is motor homes got 2 454 stroker out of them and an old one had a 427 square port head motor in it not counting the 440's or 460's i have gotten one of the 454 only had 6000 miles onit pulled the motor trans and other things sold the rv for 2000 .u get oil coolers and trans coolers all heavy lines for hook up a 4 row radiator saves thousands of dollars and 95% of them are crate motors and most people order the power for passing . i am, real lucky when it come to rigs i get most for free or real cheap they just fall in my lap . and i have a ls worst night mare pro built 327 4 bolt with custom built heads it has been pass 15,000 rpms will do 11,000 all day long it ran on the dyno over 1200 hp on pump gas no nitro . we pulled it out of rick news dragster then old man bell built the sh out of it cost over 25,000 to build it after the dragster we used the tunnel ram that came with it and the heads that were did open them up ported every thing polish the inside of block so oil would drop faster ported water jackets to help keep it cool on the street . made the angle plug heads to 204 ported intake and exhaust ports same with water and oil had to port out the cam bearings to get the cam in it all blue printed engine. block is design like a indy motor with a dragster top end and nothing but the best parts we could get lots of titanium parts just the valve locks were 400 bucks the bare cam was over 1000 bucks to give u an idea of the cost . we even seasoned the block on it .we did everything u can do to a 327 . i'm running 13 to 1 on pump gas and it runs just fine who ever said that u can't go over 10 to 1 on pump gas is full of bs and has never dun it the true limit is 13 to 1 that is by the book i have seen 13.5 to 1 but it did not last long and if u think bell doesn't know what he doing then y does he build engines for the big boys so far he has never let me down . i keep the motor in the shop now because old man bell died
