Taking my narrowboat to my 'home' canal

After not filming a video for a while I've decided to document my journey as I head towards my 'home' canal, the Staffordshire and Worcestershire.
As the months go by I'll be seeing parts of the canal I remember from my childhood, except this time I'll be seeing them from my narrowboat rather than from the towpath.

I got emotional when you spoke of your Dad and Mum in your other video. I grew up in rural Ontario, a half hour drive from Owen Sound, not quite as north as you. I think for those of us lucky enough to have experienced the beauty and pace of a life away and out of big cities feel an affinity to the serenity of the smaller town \countryside life. Betty takes us around the English countryside on her narrow boat, which is so peaceful and green. I very much appreciate that she makes and shares her videos. Nice to meet you David. Love the 'homeliness' of your vlogs, I'm sure most of us would be similarly self conscious... I personally would definitely be! Perhaps a clip microphone on you would enable you to stand back and feel more natural and give you more confidence instead of having to lean forward awkwardly every time you need to talk to camera...

Dear Betty, lovely to see you back again and the good news about your Dad. I had prostate cancer in 2002 and fortunately fully recovered. My cancer was discovered by a new doctor in the village who insisted on full blood test for all his patients and over the course of three years found my increasing PSA levels and hence the treatment - so all you blokes out there - get a series of blood tests for the prostate specific antigen!

Good news about your Dad, and thanks for telling us. Lots of narrowboat enthusiasts are men of his age, myself included, and we could all do with a reminder to be vigilant. I also know the Staffs & Worcs well after growing up in Kidderminster. It's one of the better maintained canals now with plenty of short-term visitor moorings. I had no problems finding places when I was there a couple of months ago. If you're going as far as Bratch Locks, there's a lovely mooring with bollards on the left after the bottom lock, opposite the towpath.
