Which part of the lineage are you most proud of? Was it when the church led a military siege which involved murdering women and children? Was it when the church allowed its rich members to literally buy salvation and reduced time in purgatory? Was it when they sided with the wrong side in WW2? I used to be Catholic, but then the Lord brought me out of the Catholic Church because it is not of God. I went to the Lord humble and without bias, genuinely wanting the truth and He showed me. And just because people say they’re Christian or say they follow Jesus, doesn’t mean they’re teaching the right salvation and right doctrine. It is extremely difficult to find the right doctrine and teaching so that’s why we must rely fully on the Lord to guide us, than follow what we think or feel because we are all imperfect. God is the perfect one. Read the Church Fathers and how the OT leads into the NT. This is the Catholic Church! It took me many years of going to Pentecostal, Methodist, Southern Baptist and non-denominational churches for me to accept the truth. I wanted emotional ecstasy and prosperity, not the Word of God - I was there for the show, the performance and the emotional high. I do consider all Christians to be my brothers and sisters in Christ, but some are not in full communion with Christ. Please do a little more research and God bless you.

I was a lifelong hardcore Athiest until just a few years ago. I accepted Christ by reading the Bible at home alone. I started going to various churches a couple years ago looking for somewhere I’d fit, all Protestant because I never even considered Catholicism. However, I went to a Catholic mass for the first time a few months ago and instantly knew I was home. Looking out over the congregation for the first time, on their knees worshipping Christ, moved me to tears. That’s what I was looking for, holy-spirit filled WORSHIP. Also, Catholics take communion (the Eucharist) every single mass, and Jesus told us to do it in remembrance of Him when we come together. Only knowing the Bible without knowing churches, mass is what seemed to me to be most Biblical and holy.

I’m an MBI grad from ‘77. I learned enough there to begin inquiring into the faith. I was so blatantly anti-Catholic that they were the last place I would look. Changing my own theological views several times, I knew that intensive exegesis could still yield several options. Sola scriptura wasn’t enough. I decided to study church history. I went backwards from present day to Moody to Wesley & Whitfield to Luther & Calvin. I sensed greater depth as I moved further back through time. It was like watching the faith be watered down as we got to the present. Delving into the earliest Christian writings, and up through 550 or so, I saw how they understood scripture. It was very different than my Evangelical Baptist faith in many ways. Their view of grace coming through sacrament, of grace interacting with earthly elements as sins were washed away in water & anointing coming through oil & truly receiving the flesh and blood of Christ in the Eucharist, was earth shaking for me. There was no doubt that they all spoke of a Catholic Church. I yielded to Anglicanism at first but knew it fell short. After looking at the fractious, divided churches of Orthodoxy, I humbled myself to go where I never thought I would, Rome. Despite the messes & problems, I am happy to be home.

Yes - but as one gets to know the Catholic church, there comes a time when one cannot be "on the fence" for so long, that a decision has to be made to accept or stay outside (deny) the church. - there is no more "Invincible ignorance", If one is already given or have seen the knowledge that has to be had of the Catholic church. - "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains” "Outside the Church there is no salvation" How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers? Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body: This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church: (CCC 847) Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation. Understand the Catholic Mass is not a service. It's a Mass. It's the literal response to Jesus's request that we "do this in memory" of Him. In Memory-does not mean what protestants think it means. It doesn't mean to just remember. Protestant services seem to me to be more about the pastor than Jesus.

Catholicism maintains and offers you the real meatiest truth, because it encompasses sound spiritual tradition and profound scriptural base, which provides for one a sense of belief security. Whereas...as l read your input, you are liable to be swayed here and there ..hence the need to try and over explain a verse taken out of context and end up starting your own denomination, adding to the 40k already in existence. On the whole l agree with some points you make. Christians need to unite under one church body as Christ commanded. In my journey thinking about converting from SOUTHERN BAPTIST to Roman Catholic, upon reading the Catholic authors (Hahn, Pitre etc.) the closest I got was Lutheran or Episcopal, and no way Catholic. I drew the line in the sand when the pagan or voodoo Catholic ADD-ONS started creeping in. None are anywhere near what Jesus said to do for salvation. Bye bye Rome! (example: swirling a consecrated host [Jesus] sealed up in that gaudy monstrance thingy under umbrellas--oh vomit)! Even the ORTHODOX don't do this stuff! And they need a Reformation too. OK?

I was born a Methodist and when I was a teenager I started searching for a place that felt like home after going to so many different churches the only place that felt like home was when I went to the Catholic Church. The Protestant Reformation was a holocaust of art in many parts of Europe. The more radical views of Calvin, Zwingli and others saw public religious images of any sort as idolatry and priceless works of art were systematically destroyed in areas where their followers held sway. Catholic art has played a leading role in the history and development of Western art, of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, the sacred Gregorian chants, music from Beethoven, Bach, Vivaldi, Schubert, Mozart, etc. - beautiful traditions of the church.

If you are talking about "restoration movement" church of Christ, I am from that too, and looking into EO (and a bit into RCC) At this point I am internally orthodox in many ways, but understand how church of Christ people feel. Interestingly in my congregation of c of C the preacher beleives in the real presence in the eucharist, and even is open minded to the sacrament of confession (though I am not sure he realizes it.) However I recognize this is not normal. For me one of the major keys was the incarnation. God became flesh, and that shows that matter plays a role in salvation. if your gf is c of C then she would partially understand baptism, though I do not know how her preacher explains it.That might be a starting point. Be patient with her! Have small discussions over time. Know the faith so that you may adequately explain Orthodoxy as well. The disconnect is often a social one, a hesitancy based on not knowing anyone and hearing a foreign language. These things take time.

My husband was raised Church of Christ and we both converted to Catholicism. Strongly recommend for her the book "Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic." It's written by a former Church of Christ pastor who converted. It addresses each issue chapter by chapter and is easy to understand. God bless and hope she gets on board!

This is wonderful! But don't be deceived, the church in Rome with Bergoglio as head is NOT the Catholic Church. You don't need to trust me, but check it out for yourself! The Catholic Church was infiltrated by modernists(modernism=condemned heresy!). At Vatican II they took over and changed the faith(step by step in small things), also the liturgy(novus ordo), the rites of ALL sacraments(acc. to previous popes doubtful or invalid!), relics and statues were removed, table instead of altar, everything Catholic had to go for a false ecumenism(another heresy), traditional priests removed, retired, suppressed... Tridentine Mass forbidden! My playlist "TRADITION", "modern errors"... will explain more. In order to be Catholic pls study the traditional(pre Vat.2) faith, my playlist "Baltimore Catechism", I recommend (on archive org) Catechism of "Trent" & "Spirago" & Ludwig Ott, "Fundamentals of Catholic dogma" best compilation of catholic dogmas(=what you have to believe as a Catholic), on the Mass: "Cochem's Explanation of the holy sacrifice of the Mass", confession: my playlist "Spiritual Conferences". You also need to find an independent traditional Catholic parish who practices the faith > luxvera org Take your time, learn the faith and do some research along with prayer(rosary). It is worth it! Not always Bible based. The Catholic Church is Bible plus Tradition. Much of our mass developed over time according to traditions. Jesus actually gave zero instruction for how to organize the church, but he gave Peter authority. And because we are the only church that can trace its lineage all the way back to Peter, the traditions we have developed over the last 2,000 years carry the authority of the Christ. But by that same authority, the church could reform itself when it sees fit. As it has done many times.

I was a revert to the Church in ‘95 after 12 yrs of Protestant/ non-denomination church hopping. Something was missing…the Sacrifice and Eucharist! I wasn’t catechized well at my Catholic school (post-60s warped Catholicism). I and my brother left with my parents in the early 80s. Eventually, they all completely stopped going to church period. I did slow down and wouldn’t go every Sunday myself, but was still seeking God. I finally attended a theology class that a person with a theology degree, was giving at a parish I ended up at because we moved to a new area and I had no idea which church to pick (was at a Baptist for 3 yrs prior) THAT Sunday they had info on the class starting that week. It was every week (aside from holidays, vacations) for 1 1/2 yrs. First night of theology of Creation, I was blown away, by 2nd class ALL IN!!! Went to confession and able to start receiving Jesus in His Holy Eucharist. It saved me in many ways! Eventually my parents came back and my brother and some relatives, especially after reading the Divine Mercy by St.Faustina. Although three are numerous other inspirational and informative Catholic books to read, as well. Protestant services, not all, try to be fun. It tries to APPEAL to the SENSES- get “hyped up” as you said. Latin Mass (established in the 300s and codified at the Council of Trent in 1545-1563),or, Novus Ordo Mass (during 60s), but many are flocking to TLM, honestly, as they should. If other Catholics would swallow their pride and would learn the history of the Church and the Vatican I-II Councils and the encyclical Sancrosanctum Concilium, and do the research of the highjacking (that we aren’t allowed to say, even though it’s true and there’s proof) would learn how we ended up with the Novus Order Mass (“New Order”) The TLM churches are “forming more young boys and men for vocations to the priesthood, because families are living an authentic Catholic life: most have a father as the head, a mother who is home, or works if necessary, raising the children, which many are homeschooling and more so are not exposed to inappropriate dress, words and behaviors, electronic social media that are so accustomed in public, as even some Catholic schools who have secularized are like public school, where Marxism has gone full-throttle. I don’t say this in an absolutist or degrading way, but the N.O. Mass doesn’t have the seriousness of the elements below: In Traditional Catholicism, at Mass, it appeals to the sense of beauty, tradition, heavenly music with Gregorian Chant, with an inward sense of importance. There is more silence for prayer and spiritual introspection and opportunity in reverence with more kneeling. Especially, receiving our Lord on our knees and, not touching His body, by reverently receiving on the tongue by the priest who is persona Christi/ in the person of Christ. The Mass is dated to 30 A.D., the Last Supper (read John 6:28-70 carefully), “earliest surviving account of a Mass” was by Justin Martyr ~148 A.D. Originally, in the Church, the language was Greek, but changed to Latin to be understood universally through the Roman Empire. In the 4th century Latin became the language of the liturgy as well because of unity, mystery of the language, because the Mass is primarily the Sacrifice of our Lord- where as it isn’t considered mainly an instruction/sermon; Latin meaning of words stay the same instead of changing meanings to the same word; it’s a Sacred language reserved for worship of God, rather than mere communication with other people, making it special as how God should be addressed. I would suggest looking up and ordering the Latin-English Booklet Missal for TLM (Red book), so you can read the prayers and it has little notes of what they do and why. You’ll be blown away by the High Mass TLM! They usually have the little red book missals available. Look up latinmass.com to find a parish that offers TLM. Some are diocesan parish churches and have one TLM on Sunday. So you’d have to look up or call the church to know what time. Also, dress up a bit (of course, not everyone has the means, but dress your best whatever you have) because you’re also participating in a wedding feast: Jesus the Groom and us,the Church, His Bride. Most men wear suits or a dress shirt with/without a tie, slacks, khaki pants and dress shoes. Try not to wear shorts, flip flops. In the practice of modesty, most women wear dresses and skirts below knee or to ankle, some do wear slacks; usually a light cardigan to cover shoulders and chest area-not to cause distraction to men, even the priest- they are STILL human. It’s good for women to “assist” in the custody of male eyes. Men are visual; women are more thinking/emotional. So, plunging necklines (suggest you wear a camisole/tank top underneath that adds more coverage; no short shorts or shorts at all, flip flops. You do not have to veil. Personal preference. I started 20 yrs ago. So it’s ingrained in me. ⬆️⬇️Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi, Lex Vivendi. As we Worship, So we Believe, So we Live. Know that going to Catholic Mass is not what WE get out of it, but PRAYING the Mass and offering ourselves (our prayer to God) to Christ in His Sacrifice, as His re-presentation of His death on Calvary, in which He literally gives Himself to us in His mystical miracle of His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinty under the accidents of bread and wine. If we do well to offer as much as we can at His Mass, the more grace we receive. Caveat: if not Catholic or aren’t a practicing Catholic, you cannot receive the Holy Eucharist. Non-Catholic would have to complete RCIA/OCIA in the Church and receive baptism if your Baptism wasn’t Trinitarian: Father, Son, Holy Ghost. Lapsed adult Catholics would need to finish any Sacramental preparation they may have missed; or, go to confession and tell the priest you would like to make a lifetime confession and he’ll walk you through it (if not, whether he isn’t familiar or thinks it’s not necessary, I suggest you find a different priest- unfortunately). TLM priests do it all, as they should, if they truly take care of what was passed down in the Church, what was hidden for decades. Tidbit, we use the Mass instead of “service”, because it also has meaning: the word "Mass" comes from the Latin phrase Ite, missa est, which means "go forth" or "to send out"; which the priest says at the end of Mass and the response is Deo gratis! : Thanks be to God! Thanks to Eliza for sharing her thoughts. I just was received into the Catholic church, gave my first confession, was baptized. confirmed and received first communion on Saturday at the Easter vigil. I think that it can make people feel left out when they are not able to receive communion. However, even Catholics cannot receive communion if they are in a state of mortal sin. It’s the sin of sacrilege to receive communion in a state of mortal sin or if you don’t believe that the bread is truly the body, blood, soul and divinity of our Lord. If you recall, anyone who was not free from sin would perish when they came near the Ark of the Covenant because it held God. The Eucharist (bread) truly becomes the Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity of Jesus Christ so even we as Catholics (Universal) Christians have to really do a thorough examination of conscience and go to confession and be in a state of grace in order to receive communion (Jesus Christ). The Eucharist and the sacrament of reconciliation (confession) was my main motivations for coming into the church…to know that Jesus Christ is within me and to hear that I was truly absolved from my sins in confession. Knowing that he is truly within me helping to strengthen me and grow in Holiness and to help me fight temptations. It was such a beautiful experience and I’m happy that you both are open minded and share parts of the faith with others on your channel.

Please don't feel excluded from Communion, because closed Communion is for your own protection. 1 Corinthians 11:29 states "For those who eat and drink unworthily, eat and drink damnation to themselves, not discerning the Lord's body." If you do not believe that Jesus is present in the Eucharist, even though Jesus declared "This is my body", then the Catholic Church believes it is for your own safety not to participate. Love your videos. I am a cradle Catholic, although I only had one Catholic grandparent and he died before I was born. So, I was actually exposed to good, faithful Christian Protestants. The short of it is I left the Church for over 40 years. I went from Catholic, to Lutheran, to non denominational Pentecostal to Presbetyrian to Methodist (home church of my dad for 7 generations) then when mom was in her final months, she prayed the rosary in the midst of her suffering over and over. When she received last rights I got chill bumps. Then after she passed a dear friend and distant cousin asked me to take her to Mass after her surgery. And here I am five years later so very happy to be home again!

Austin, great video! On being excluded from Communion I’m sure you’ve gotten great answers but maybe I can pile on with a couple points. 1) the pain you feel being excluded from the Eucharist is felt much more acutely by Jesus than by you or anyone else. He desperately wants you to be united fully with Him. Also, your pain can be offered up to Him, just like fasting can be, for the purification of His Church and the salvation of souls. 2) The Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ. It’s a Sacrament (the quintessential Sacrament) meaning it “effects what it signifies”. So in receiving the Eucharist we are united fully with His Body, the Church. If we don’t fully accept the teachings of His Church our union with her is false, so we end up deceiving ourselves and heaping coals upon our heads. I hope that was somewhat comforting! Catholic here. Went to college near Branson, MO. An area where being Catholic is challenged. But as St. Fulton Sheen said, there are not ten Protestants in America who hate the Catholic Church. They hate what they have learned the Catholic Church is. Most of which is to say the least, inaccurate.

I am a cradle Catholic but I learned a lot more about my faith and Church history through the answers by Dr. David Anders in his YT channel and Dr. Scott Hahn where non Catholics and Catholics are welcome to ask questions live everyday M-F ET. I enjoyed watching this, thanks for making it! I entered the Catholic Church in 2014. The Protestant church I was a member of at the time was a relatively new congregation that incorporated a blend of Lutheran, Presbyterian and Anglican and Baptist traditions. I found the new mass/ ordinary form to be very similar and the transition was fairly easy in respect to the liturgy. For the past two years I’ve been mostly attending the extraordinary form which I have learned to appreciate and find to aid my prayer life in a whole new way. I would love to know what your fiancée thinks of experiencing the extraordinary form. God bless you both.

My reactions were very similar going to my first mass many years ago. I grew up in a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, so the liturgical format was a little familiar which helped. I recently did an interview with The Journey Home about my conversion story... you remind me of myself. Keep your open heart, He is longing to fill it. ❤️
