Taking of suppers for extraction and making sure we still have queens

Thanks for that, a decent crop of honey, well worth the effort and taking the occasional sting. I know there is no wrong or right way, but personally I never extract from any deep brood frame, just in case there are eggs, live or dead brood etc, you can always store these until next year for making nucs, or use them if you are going to double brood over winter on two deeps. Having brood in shallow supers can get a bit tricky also. I tried overwintering last year on brood and a half, which the bees loved, but in the spring I found it a bit messy trying to decided what to do with the shallow. So this year I will either do single brood box overwintering, or double brood box overwintering and see how that goes! Anyway, really enjoy your vids, thanks for posting, I know they take a lot of time and effort to do.😊

@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 ahh thank you so much for watching and your comments mean a lot.. yes defo with you on that one, iv left 1 hive as a double brood, leaving them plenty of stores and the other is a double brood but 1 brood box 2 supers lol, best I can do atm but again wont to give them plenty of stores to help them through winter, with the weather so good they are still so on it, trying to down size the hive but just way too meany bees. So just going to leave them to their own devices and if they fill another supper then they will just have more for themselves… iv put the apivar strips in now so couldn’t take anymore honey..

@@dcleal1 cheers Danny, I have done my extraction, still have a few uncapped frames on my hives, will do my Apivar in next few days, so will take these off. Might just store them and stick back on when Apivar comes off. Most of the bees about now will be dead in a few months time, so numbers will go down, so they should all eventually fit in, but with a bit of a squeeze first!

@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 yeah defo get ya apivar in sooner then later, need a strong colony for winter.. my frames are currently in the freezer but iv left brood and half but coz there so busy iv put another supper back on combed Out so if they fill that in which I think they will then just more feed for them ..👍
