Used to be: when I dieted, I lost weight. When I stopped dieting I put the weight back on. Now: I changed my diet, lost the weight, and it hasn’t come back. Didn’t have to exercise, actually due to neuropathy, not terribly active, just cut back on portions. No more supersizing portions. Cut back on junk(did not say eliminate) food. These days I’m 85 pounds lighter than my worse at 280. Bottom Line: Do Not Diet, Change Your Diet, you’ll be much happier.

When I blew my back up, I lost a lot of weight before surgery. Since surgery and my recovery, I’ve managed to keep it mostly off. I think being healthy as a pilot is a good thing. Plus it’s good to get rid of some of that useless load.

I'm in the same boat, but for health reasons. And it really is important as I can't do the things I could do when I was just a few years younger. I basically got lazy, now I'm paying for it. So I salute both of you, and maybe we can be our own support group and make better eating choices together!

Excellent podcast Dan and Christy. Definitely a topic many people struggle with. It's great to see that the two of you overcame your rough childhoods and are doing very well for yourselves. I myself have gained a little weight recently, and this will give me more motivation to get it off. Thank you. Keep up the excellent work and keep being awesome people. Safe skies my friends 🇺🇸🛩️

If you have a family history of diabetes and don't exercise or eat well, that's a pretty good way of giving yourself Type II diabetes. Ask me how I know. Diabetes isn't just about blood sugar. It messes with your entire body. It's the gift that keeps on giving even if it's managed.

You can maintain a healthy lifestyle traveling. I travel every week for my job. And I eat very healthy. I am a pilot but that's not my profession. I am a financial advisor so my job is not physical. A lot of computer and client meetings. I do work out 6 days a week. A healthy lifestyle is a choice.

You both should read a book called "younger next year" by Chris Crowley. It's a book about changing your lifestyle has nothing to do with diets.

I'm 62 and fit. I used to have a doughnut and 2 coffee/day until 2019 when diagnosed with T2 diabetes. No coffee, alcohol or any sweets since. Regular exercise and healthy eating go hand in hand. We can't be in 2 places at one time, so if you are a busy person, you have to give something up in order to exercise. I noticed that many of the professional KZbin pilots exercised daily and eventually gave up KZbin.

An airline pilot once said to me that he always considered himself to be six months away from being unemployed if he failed his medical. That was his motivation for following a healthy lifestyle. Do you know of any ATPs who have lost jobs because of failing their medical?

At 17, my parents got a divorce and sold the house. I took on more hours at Burger Chef! That was my boy to man right of passage. I had $1 dollar per day for food. At that time, the salad bar was $1. It only had lettuce, shredded cheese, mushrooms, and croutons. On the weekends I hit any relatives that would feed me. I do miss the big Chef, Super Chef and filet o fish. Nowadays, I frequent Burger King

I recently learned that the very first case of a heart attack causing death in the USA was in 1912! A decade or two later, it was the number one killer in the country. It is thought that the new attitude towards food...reducing the amount of meat and adding seed oils into the diet really has made us all very sick. I try to stick with a carnivore diet but am far from perfect and regularly fall off plan because I am not strong enough to resist temptation at times. I am certainly giving it a good try this time around, though and lost over 130lbs doing keto a few years ago.

A very large part of food intake is psychological. If you really want to lose weight, you need knowledge, a dietitian, a support system, and some sort of mental assistance. Oh, and money. Good food costs way more than bad.
@someguyontheinternet7165
@someguyontheinternet7165 Ай бұрын
Good food costs more *upfront* In the long term crummy food can cost a whole lot more, particularly for professional pilots who are reliant on their medicals to make a substantial income. Even if not bound by a medical cert, what we eat is a huge determinant of how many prescriptions we end up needing later on and it doesn’t take too many of those to quickly cost exceed the savings off the grocery budget.

Losing weight is easy. It’s just how much you consume. I’ve got maybe half a dozen minor changes that make it nearly effortless. Being healthy however is hard. It means consistent exercise, and not just watching how much you consume but what exactly it is you choose to.

I definitely gained some weight during my flight training days - right around 15 lbs! But the past year or so I’ve been building up muscle in my legs which makes them look even thicker. 🙈 So now my goal is to keep the muscle, lose the fat. It’s a process for sure!
