Maybe dragons beard candy would work as an alternative to cotton candy. You can control the final thickness of the 'strands' and it doesn't shrink so quick like cotton candy.

I agree, if she can get a hold of some dragon's beard candy it might work. The result from what she actually did though in my opinion looks great from a distance, but when you get up close the realness goes away and the fur looks like the molded chocolate it really is.

As someone that went to art school and then animation school, I think critique is so important and so many people seem so opposed to it. I would not have become a better artist or animator without critique! I think you are one of the most talented sculptors I’ve come across, cake or not. I wish I was better at articulating my critiques, but like with this one, it’s so close but somehow not quite accurate. The fur looks heavy, while still looking like the fur of the boot. Idk if maybe more highlights (like how fur with a light behind it has a sort of halo glow) or maybe a different material, but the fur in the boots looks heavier than the real fur. I think it looks great but I’d love to see you play around with the fur texture some more!
@sophiophile2 жыл бұрын
You are right. I think one of the limitations is that she uses a pretty small variety of materials to do basically all the shapes- although that makes the end results even more impressive at times IMO. I think the best solution might have been something like dragons beard candy, as it doesn't shrink as much as cotton candy.

With such talent, also comes wisdom ☺️ your cakes are always so amazing, and so is this one! I think the one thing your missing on this one is that fur really has a shiny texture due to the synthetic fibers, along with the ends being almost translucent due to it thinning out. I saw a few other suggestions other than cotton candy, like dragons beard. I feel like if there was a way to sculpt sugar strands, that would probably be the closest you’d get!!
@catpoke9557 Жыл бұрын
I agree! Just adding strands of sugar to a sculpted base would make it more convincing, even.
@tsukitakaoverlord44132 жыл бұрын
The fur looks great! When you asked what you could use to make the fur, the first thing I thought of was dragon beard candy! It’s very labor-intensive, but the final result is worth the effort. Maybe to make the fur look even more realistic, you could sculpt the fur and attach the dragon beard candy on top to give it the texture and effect of being real fur! I really enjoyed the video, thank you so much for creating such amazing content!

Excellent job on the fur! Very beautiful, still noticeably not real to me. But I’ve drawn fur and it is difficult. It’s layers after layers of lines in different shades, drawn together in clumps and separate with out reason. I’m not a sculptor but I’ve seen people lightly mix two different shades of clay together to get a mix of color. Try to get them in the same direction maybe. I think if it works out, the different shades might help with the illusion of dimension.

...I dunno, I think you've set your own bar too high with your past projects. Beyond the 'obvious' "the chocolate just doesn't look enough like fur", I also think the strap could have used some shimmer to make it look more like the semi-transparent plastic weave of the original. It's a very nice cake, but it doesn't quite require the same double-take I've come to expect of Sideserf cakes. I think some material experimentation is in order.

soo impressed with the way you modeled the fur. my first idea was admittedly cotton candy and i still think cotton candy would work well as a secondary addition to the modeling chocolate. that way the structure wont shrink because it has an existing foundation while still adding the frizzyness to the edges of the fur.

Id much prefer to hear you discuss how you plan to work and the troubles you face whilst working. And longer videos talking about the process and going into details. Also Iv always been intrigued to see what happens to the cake before you cut it, such as setting up any photoshoots for instagram & websites.. and if you ever showcase any to local organisations/events.. and lastly see the people who do get to taste & eat them after cutting up. I wonder if Dave could experiment with using boom cams that zoom in and rotate whilst you cut so it catches a more dramatic look. These are just some of my thoughts while iv been watching your vids.
