So so lucky in the UK that all the costs and transport are covered by the wonderful NHS.

Hello! Thank you for the video. I am 29 year old male and I have 8% capacity. I am currently doing the PD-training at the hospital and will start in 2 weeks. I am so nervous.

You're brilliant Bethany, we watch all your videos with great interest and they are most helpful. My husband has been heading towards dialysis for a little while now as his kidney function has been declining. Next week he is to be seen by the Surgeon who will hopefully be able to insert a PD catheter so he can do the dialysis himself. Keep up the encouraging work Bethany and thank you. I am on the kidney transplant list, waiting for the call. Hoping to get a transplant before I have to start dialysis. UK.
@coffeeandhorses79917 ай бұрын
Wow,! In Canada we are not allowed to go on a transplant list for the first 2 yrs of being on dialysis. It's a 3 to 5 yr wait for cadaver donation
@timnewman65297 ай бұрын
@@coffeeandhorses7991 Yes we are very very lucky over here although the way people moan you would not believe it. We just have to be stage five with a GFR below fifteen and pass the usual tests and can go on the list. Not everybody gets on it but basicaly GFR under 15 and you are there.

Great advice!! Can you please discuss how you take showers, how often and how you prepare and protect the tubing and the incision area during shower. Thank you!!
@krismua12095 ай бұрын
I can tell you from my experience if you don't mind. After surgery for the PD catheter I had to keep the area dry by taking sponge baths only for a few weeks. Once I was allowed to take showers, there is always a dressing over the area where the tube exits your body. So I'd leave it on while showering, then put a new dressing on afterwards. The other end of the tubing, with the port that connects to the machine, is fine because it's closed so water can't get in. The hospital gave me this stretchy mesh thing to wear around my middle. You can wear something like that during showers (or anytime) to keep the port pressed flat against your body so it's not hanging down.

My husband was on PD dialysis for just a couple of months and then he got MRSA. They had to remove the PD catheter and he was in the hospital for 5 days. He was now recovered from that but is sticking with Hemodialysis that they started at the hospital. He is doing much better with HD, but has surgery soon for a graft to place his permanent HD catheter. He has just had the temporary chest one while healing from the other surgery.

Thank you for video! When kidneys do not work, the hemoglobin goes down. Do you receive any shots while on PD to improve hemoglobin? If you do, who gives you the shots ?

I have a question. Did you have flank sorness or pain as a symptom? I have had flank discomfort and sorness in my lower back and on both sided near where my kidneys are located for several months now. I have not had any other symptoms that you have mentioned in your previous videos . I had blood work done and my kidney functions were all normal. I also had a CT Scan and it did show a simple cyst on my L kidney. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for caring and best of luck to you!
