Thats an old ammunition maker. The .410 is the caliber. Old ammo. Around 100 years old. The long bits are for a door and hinges imbedded in the stone walls. Good finds and good progress. Thank you for posting your project. It is really interesting.

I think the small bottle is an aspirin bottle. I am nearly 80 and remember when small tins and small bottles of aspirin were readily available. I would have to see the bottle more closely to be certain. Even in my lifetime the actual shape of the bottles changed but I can easily still recognize all of them.

As somebody else has pointed out, the largest piece of metal you found is from a gate latch, it's that shape and that long so you can open the gate when you're mounted on a horse. They're known as a 'monkey tail' with that end.

The casing you found looks like a rifle case brass maybe but the name is pronounced with a hard " E " sound so ELEY Kynoch pronounced "KINOCk" that's the ammunition maker Like .450 ELEY. The caliber 410 is a small shotgun round, at least here in America. And I looked it up and it's an all brass shotgun round made from 1945 - 1989. Nice find.

@andy2950 Жыл бұрын
@skeetsmcgrew3282 No, mate. Modern cavity walls will be filled with fire retardant blocking (there are different types). I also insulates to new building regulations. A pvc fixing plate is added at the end to stop water, etc, getting into insulation between the inner and outer walls. The key is a right-angled piece of pvc that is attached to the end plate and is placed in between the bricks and mortared in.

Thanks for your hard work. The little rounded bottle looks very like an ASPRO bottle. When I was a child ASPRO was a trade name for aspirin tables; they had a dividing line marked so the user could easily snap the tablet in half should they so desire. They did not dissolve very well being very slow to break down into a cloudy mixture.

I love seeing your dig progress. It's so fascinating. I can't help but think the excavation today looks like steps. Perhaps it was an ascension to get out another side of the home and the land around it was different grades. Perhaps part of the home had an earthen berm against it for added weatherproofing and the door on that side needed to ascend. Or... maybe there was an upstairs and the lower steps were stone? Or maybe the wall is collapsed and it just looks like steps. Excellent work and the artifacts are a real journey back in time. Thank you!

I think medication was issued in glass bottles in the late 17 early 18 century and that could tie in with the with of the walls. Do the first two iron pieces look like the will fit together, to me they look like the sort of thing that you would hang your pot on and swing it into the fire . I found an old (20 century) intack piggyback on my little project lol. You are doing an amazing job 👍👏

I think in the end you will really want that stump gone. Certainly plenty to do in the mean time and it isn't urgent. But by the time you have most of that wall excavated it will look silly at best and be destructive at worst. It will be a real project to remove though as you won't be able to use a winch for that one. Maybe just using 'Stump Rot' is the way to go

Perhaps after you carefully clean it, you can let us know if the glass was actually printed with something. It was probably aspirin or stomach pills.
