This covers the smallest percentage of threats to children, "The stranger". In virtually every case of obduction, abuse and murder the abductor is someone the parents THOUGHT was a safe and trusted adult or teen.

Yeah, but it's a public service and the drivers are verified and if something is wrong with the drivers, you can report them. Also, with that logic you can argue that any form of public transportation drivers are strangers that it's ok to take rides from. That's not so, when a random stranger tries to pick you up although they can technically be reported to the police.

STRANGERS can be anybody, even someone you know; that’s why you can be SHOCKED by someone, who you thought you knew, if they do something bad. We really DO NOT EVEN KNOW OURSELVES.

I think some of these rules depend on the situation. For example, when someone says hi and asks what your name is; usually it means they're trying to be friendly and want to get to know you. But, it depends on who it is and where you're at. If you're a kid and another kid at school comes up to you and says that, then it's ok to talk to that person because it's a situation where it's common and safe to meet new people. It would be kind of rude to ignore the person in that situation. But, if it's a kid and a random adult in that type of situation then it's probably not safe to talk to that person and the kid should get away and tell a trusted adult immediately. Same with people of any age. Someone I just met on the internet or while I'm out, would not be trustworthy unless I've talked to him/her for a while and I figured out that they're nice people. There's a lot of different scenarios, which I won't get into because it will take too long to explain. But, most people will get the idea. The rest of these lessons are right.

Studies show most kids are better off learning to meet people in their world. The advice in this movie is horrible. Creating bubble children results in kids who cannot navigate in society and ironically become more vulnerable to predators.

@@ThomasTalbotMD Yeaaaaaaah, say the suspect predator. XD Not everyone has good intentions, not all of them look like, or act like the monsters they are, so it's best just to play it safe and learn to protect yourself, read people correctly, and teach your kids to protect themselves when you aren't there. This is just the world we live in, and none of us asked to be here. Look at the horrendous things people are capable of doing to others, it's not pretty. Some humans may be civilized, but there are some people out there who are functioning on literal lizard brains. They are feral, dead-eyed, and are always on predatory mode, so you got to just deal with it. Predators hate these videos, because it means their prey is harder to trick, or get into a sticky situation that they cannot get out of. When you grow up, you don't have to talk to, hang around, or be with anyone you don't want to, especially if you sense something off about them. If people who are trying to worm their way into your life, even after you've given clear signs you aren't interested in further contact with them, that's their issue. I've had people actually try and bully and shame me into liking them, (platonically and romantically), hanging out with them, trying to trap me into situations where they thought I couldn't back out of, and almost demanding me to invite them over for dinner, all with the excuse that "humans are social." No, that's an authoritarian predator who has already proven that if we were already friends, they'd be insufferable, pushy, and overbearing. Pass. Stranger Danger doesn't go away just because you're an adult. Stranger Danger is for everyone. Better to be a "bubble child" than end up on someone's snuff film on the dark web. Your kid too can star in the next Daisy's Destruction video.

I was attempted to be kidnapped 3 times as a kid in the 70s. And I live in what was a super small town at the time. Thankfully I don't hear as much about kidnappings these days - could be all the surveillance cameras scaring people to not do it.

It's interesting because crime, on the whole, has decreased dramatically since 1986. The America we're living in today is tons safer than the America of 1986. Still, thanks to new information-sharing technology (the internet, especially) people are more likely to think the world is a more dangerous place.

The advice in this film is horrible. Kids need to learn to interact with adults, who are overwhelmingly decent in a good community. They need to learn how to interact and should be taught specific scenarios which are dangerous, not to label everyone a stranger and not talk to them.
@mickdavis2385

You have to remember the 70s and 80s was a time when parents still let their kids play on their own and kind of roam around at their will, or with their siblings. Today that is less common. Parents helicopter around their kids 24/7.
