So no reduction in tuition for zoom university? 😒

@@courtneyrogers6954 I would imagine that additional cleaning, equipment, masks, online training, class conversion, etc. probably aren't going to be much cheaper. An online class can be cheaper since most of the content can be reused year to year, but the move online is more expensive than just teaching normally in some cases. I don't think that tuition should change just because classes are held online (provided they are either live or heavily developed), but if that is the direction taken measures need to go into place to ensure students are not having to pay the higher prices for dorms and meals if they aren't able to make use of those benefits.

So you all think that the university is running some sort of soup kitchen or what? You are here to be educated, proper education costs money. I suggest that you all start adhering to the university’s value system, if not, perhaps you belong elsewhere.

Also, who ran a soup kitchen in the 1930s again? May I suggest to the university leadership that if they are going to continue to avoid paying taxes like everyone else that they open up a few soup kitchens and actually stock them well. It may throw the feds off for a little while at least...

But is tuition going to stay the same with online classes?

I really hope NCSU uses this as an opportunity to provide more small group hands on learning experiences. I'm fine with watching lectures online since we never interact in classes anyways (at least in engineering), but I would really appreciate the opportunity to interact with faculty (not grad students) in small hands on learning opportunities that make it easier to ask questions and engage with the material. Maybe have weekly experiments with professors present or small group problem sessions with professors.

Does anyone actually think we're going to be on campus this fall? We just had our worst day of increased cases and its only going to get worse as more things start to reopen regardless of reality. If State reopens, it will be a hotbed of new cases on top of the ongoing crisis. The day after our bills are paid they'll announce that classes are all moving online and campus is closed. Also, hotdiggidy damn it's so obvious he's reading off of a prompter.

Not trying to negate your comment, but keep in mind there's a direct correlation between increased cases and testing. More testing = more cases. On the positive side, the increase in identified cases will also lower the mortality rate. Current recovery percentage is over 90%.

Hospitalization rates are probably a better indicator than positive tests...and NC has been reporting record highs for covid hospitalizations almost every day for the past week.

@@mom2homer The numbers I have been looking at on the NCDHHS site just show "currently hospitalized" so I'm thinking that includes new admissions to those who are already in the hospital, minus those who have been released. I want everyone to be well, of course, but 915 currently hospitalized out of a population of 10.5 million is a factor of less than .0001.

Ah yes can't wait to come in as a freshmen with the requirement of living on campus for mostly online classes. Not only that, we still get to pay full tuition for a lesser quality of education!

Me: "I really hope I'm not gonna lose my money by taking out loans and being in Student debt just to have classes online." Also me: "Yikers, masks are pretty expensive at Walmart." Also also me: "Please let Marching Band come back so I can *doot doot* with NC State again."

How does one eat with a mask on? I guess I'm just confused in general about dinning arangments.

That's what I worry most about. Since I'm already in a small major I don't see any issues caused by the distancing and mask requirements in my classes, but I can't see a way around the issue for dining areas. It's not like there will be less students, and reducing seating with the schedules remaining similar will just result in hundreds of students standing around eating or going against the guidelines. You can't wear a mask in those situations either...

If you check your MyPack, I'm pretty sure most lectures are online, and only labs are in-person. But I wouldn't be surprised if they offered alternative delivery for students who are high-risk or aren't comfortable with in-person.

No we need to offer in class options, if you're scared stay at home but don't take the in-class option away from everyone else

@@JW--dc8ri especially after committing to pay thousands in rent to actually attend classes. It really should be optional for those who are afraid or immunocompromised. I don't see why anyone would want to pay for the tuition and living costs of normal college life rather than just take classes online through a community college
