It’s funny how all of a sudden people “forgot” how crowded Disneyland was before the pandemic. Every trip we made between 2012 and 2019 was ALWAYS jam packed, a few times during those years we got to see the Disneyland gates close because they were at FULL capacity. That has not happened ONCE since it reopened after the pandemic, or at least not that I’ve heard. But everyone, especially SoCal residents, were enjoying the parks under the reservation system, when the parks were at a max of 75% capacity all the time. I remember watching some Fresh Baked videos where David mentioned that Tuesdays were the new Saturdays because of how jam packed the park was, and this was during a “down time” season. Please remember that you’re not visiting just any theme park, you’re in the greatest theme park ever devised by human imagination, so it’ll tend to attract massive amounts of people. Besides, what do you expect of guests with park hopper tickets, to make the expense and then just go home after 6:00 PM, when you have 7 hours left of Disney magic in the parks? Just be grateful you get to go and enjoy the magic, crowded parks or not.

You were speaking of the audio transitions at the park. The best audio transition I experienced was at DCA, when they still had the surfer fountain at the corner of Hollywood and the parade route. With just a few steps the surfer music would gently fade and the music from Hollywood would gently fade in. It showed a mastery of the art in my opinion.

Hey fresh-baked, my wife and I were there on Tuesday through Thursday and I will never go to Disneyland again while Oogie boogie bash is going on because each day as the folks were being removed from California adventure, Disneyland became overcrowded and ridiculous. It just wasn’t fair to have too many people packed into Disneyland. This is the most people I’ve ever seen in the 38 years my wife and I have been coming.

All of Halloween season is too crowded. We went last October and it was brutal. Will never go again during Halloween.

Yup exactly right!!! On Tuesday we left DCA at 6pm and everyone literally just walked across. So annoying Thursday we were at Disneyland and at 6pm it got ridiculously packed

Busiest day I recall was one of the first Halloween decor years in DL, around 2006, mid-October (our kids always had a teacher day about then, so no school on Friday) No nighttime events, just insane all day. I think there were 3 “outside” events, i.e., a hospital benefit walk, a pirate theme thing, and something else. No mobile order of course, and literally no food to be had, quick service places actually ran out. I have no memory of what our solution was, but it was one other mom & our four kids, so very insane. I believe they closed the park to more guests at some point, but not sure. Honestly haven’t felt like that since, though we’ve been quite a bit, and met some very serious crowds. This one does look intense though! I’m surprised there are enough folks paying for overpriced park hoppers to make that huge a difference, but I’ve certainly been on both sides of the Oogie Boogie event & get it. (We were APs back then) Would never reserve DL on an Oogie Boogie day, or a park hopper either. So now we plan plan plan…

I amazes me, to your point, how many vibes are still salvageable from the tomorrowland monorail station given the thoroughly diminished and neglected state of the land. No buckets, no people mover, no theater, no starcade, no motor boats, no circle theater, defaced people mover loading station, etc. I know I sound like an angry old fart but at least 50% of the as-designed kinetic energy has been gutted without replacement and yet it still doesn't fully inhibit some of that 1959 Tomorrowland magic from shining through speaking volumes to the brilliance of that design. For the love go god do right by tomorrowland disney.

I love your content! My parents used to take my sister and I to Disneyland every summer on the way to visit our family is SoCal. So many great memories. You might not be old enough to remember the jam up of crowds at the foot of poc before they finally had the idea to build the bridge to separate and direct ppl either into pirates ride or somehow get around that area. But it seemed like a long time, years or even decades (?). There’s even a remnant of the jam up now, still, so you can imagine what it was like when there was no separation and crowds were aimlessly mingling all on the same flat level. Fun! Well, sort of. They originally had switchbacks over against the east side of building, hidden away. But evidently it got to be just too much. Much nicer now. Yo ho. ;).

Interesting tidbit: the correct pronunciation is CARE-i-be-an because the region is named after the Carib "CARE-ib" indigenous peoples. The so-called American pronunciation of kuh-RI-be-an began in the American Broadcasters handbook but was actually a mistaken phonetic interpretation. By now the second pronunciation is commonplace but it's one of those mistakes that erases the origin of the word. I luv that ride, it's such a vibe!
