There are dome cars in economy where you can meet others and look at the scenery, You also used to be able to go to the back dining car (the nice one with the tablecloths & the chef food) and pay for your meals while riding coach, but now i believe you can only by stuff from the cafe-car in economy.

Mike such a great series. I'm the "fun" Uncle with 3 nieces and nephews and 2 God children, ages 9-17. We've trained Toronto to Vancouver, Amtrak Los Angeles to Chicago to New York, Cruised London to Russia and back, Cruised Los Angeles to Alaska,Mexico and Miami. Barcelona to Venice and the Orient Express Vienna to Paris to London and cruised back to New York. All the kids are great photographers and document every journey. My oldest Nephew suggested the cross country Canadian rail trek after seeing your train vlogs. Thanks so much for the inspirations, it's travel vloggers like you that inspire the "younger" generation to travel, experience and learn new cultures and lifestyles. Thanks so much👍❤️🌈❤️🌈

I enjoyed the Canadian. It was neat walking through the old sleepers seeing other types of bedrooms. There was one where the chairs lay down for a bed and their toilet was under their bed. CRAZY! Looks like what you had. Some were births which were just beds behind curtains. So cool! When we were on the Ocean, the European sleepers had a shower above our private toilet getting the whole bathroom wet and their was a "tour guide" type person in the dome cars giving facts and telling stories along the way.

I took a trip on The Canadian and I would say the staff is the best part. The porter and I got chatting, Manitoba was his home and rest stop. When I mentioned I collected coins, he told me that the Canadian Mint was just outside town and even offered to take me there on his day off. We had a great time touring. As a USA citizen, I have also been told by a Canadian Border Guard that I have seen more of Canada that most Canadians. Thanks for bringing back the memories and sharing your journey.

Mike, what can I say? So many superlatives in this episode I could write a 1500 word essay and it would probably not be enough. I do hope the Civic Authorities in Winnipeg award you the freedom of the city as a result of this episode. The Province should also award you for this episode. Manitoba is not on the bucket list for most visitors to Canada but you and Will have certainly raised the bar. Great coverage of The Canadian as the lead up to Winnipeg, Gimli and other places you visited. The Canadian journey had me pause the video and reach for my Scenic Rail Guide to Central and Atlantic Canada, published in 1983 by Bill Coo, a ViaRail Conductor of the time. Pages 138 to 147 cover the journey across Ontario to Manitoba and a photo of Sioux Lookout station appears on page 146. I note that you resisted the urge to point out the fact that Winnipeg has one of the largest rail complexes in the world. but I suppose your USA cousins might get snooty over that, claiming that Union Pacific's Bailey Yard in Omaha is bigger. Enough of that! I certainly hope TruEarth, Canadian Television and all Provinces will fund you and Will for a chance to do a repeat series travelling in the opposite direction, visiting places that you haven't covered in this series. It would be great if TruEarth funded your trip downunder to Australia and New Zealand to meet me and many other of your KZbin fans and to be shown around our part of the world. Enough from me this week. Looking forward to your next installment. Cheers from Michael.

Back in the late 90's and early 2000's there was a North American rail pass. Travel anywhere you can with VIA and AmTrak. I found when I was in the day coach traveling, (not a lot of money to my disposal) was the most entertaining on VIA. On one train trip from Edmonton all the way to Toronto, Was traveling by coincidence with about 15 people. playing cards, and having a little get together concert in the observation car at night after sunset. Because of covid, that's all stopped and people now keep more to them selves.
