My favorite rider, hands down. My kids call him "Danny Mac" and often ask for his videos. (They're young) We watch and pretend we can do those tricks, 'judging' Danny's tricks and their difficulty level 👍 One thing I'd like to mention, and it's too late, but one of the opening shots shows a nuclear power plant. There are two cooling towers, and it looks like 'smoke' or 'smog' is coming out of them. Just so everyone knows, that is simply steam. Nuclear power plants use water to spin the turbines (water is heated by the nuclear fuel, turns to steam, and spins the turbines.) I don't think most video producers know that; it's easy to get stock footage of a nuclear power plant with steam around it, put it in a video and make people think how bad it is for the environment. There are new ways of handling spent nuclear fuel, some of which reuse it for good things (NOT depleted uranium for weapons!) instead of burying it for ten thousand years. It's not in-vogue, and it's not 'cool' to like nuclear power, but it IS clean. If only the industry cared about spent fuel rods 40 years ago, as they do now, it wouldn't have such a bad reputation. 🙄🤔 Sorry for the rant. I've always been a Danny Mac fan and anyone trying to do good for the environment is OK in my book! Even if you volunteer to pick up litter around your neighborhood, that's a start. Or help clean a local stream or creek. If everyone stopped littering, and if we stopped letting big corporations get away with mass pollution, the environment would be so much better. If we kept our bikes for a few more years instead of buying a new bike all the time (sorry Santa Cruz and other Danny sponsors!)☺️ we'd be doing the most important part: REDUCE (Rescue, Reuse, Recycle ♻️) Everyone drools over these big solutions (wind turbines, etc.) when we've got floating islands of plastic coming from China. We've got solar panels on houses for tens of thousands of dollars (especially if you get Tesla's brand!), but some countries' air is so bad you have to wear a mask every day. Some counties have little in the way of regulations. Factories spew waste into the air, land and water, without consequence. In the United States and some other countries, industrial pollution is relatively small compared to decades past and composition the population and GDP. I'd love all of this effort for Clean Energy and Climate Change to be directed at the big corporations who are spewing toxic waste into our environment! I guess it's not sexy or cool enough to do that. No one wants to watch Danny ride through smog and bunny hop over toxic sludge. But riding on a turbine blade definitely is cool. 😎 Sometimes, the answers are right in front of us, and are easier than the big, sexy solutions like electric vehicles, solar panels and wind turbines. What if we cleaned up our planet first? What if we recycled 75% of our trash? What if some counties didn't dump millions of pounds of plastic into the ocean? Can we all do that for a decade, and revisit everything? Once we've ended basic pollution, then we can tackle wind turbines and Climate Change! Get up right now and look in your trash can. Look in a local dumpster, local trash center and local landfill. We waste SO MUCH STUFF and we keep doing it, but we feel better about ourselves because we have solar panels on our roof. 🙄 We pay taxes to our governments to install wind turbines, but the politicians are in the board of directors for companies that make toxic chemicals and don't dispose of the waste. Let's hold THEM accountable! Peace and love. (And sorry for the rant!)

You need to look a bit deeper, a bit beyond the marketing brochure they give to consumers. And Climate change is a massive subject that isn't as simple as just what "bad things" humans are doing. of course I'm not 100% informed on that topic, I'll happily admit that, but I know enough not to fall for the one dimensional narrative that's being pushed. and for the record I'm an advocate for as clean and efficient energy as possible, that's why I love my field of work. I literally design, research and develop things to be as efficient as realistically possible. but it has highlighted the realities behind some of the current "green" agendas that are being used indoctrinating the public, which are often just for profit or short term gain. tbh a basic understanding of Newtons laws paired with a bit of critical thinking is often enough to debunk a lot of these apparent "solutions". You force the servers and network infrastructure to work harder. This is especially true for HD quality videos with a high framerate (60fps). Not to mention the need for storing multiple copies of videos and backups. You are part of the problem and the reason why they have emissions.

Speaking on CO2, I don't understand why people with zero credentials or at least legitimate interest in climate science are so obsessed with blaming pretty much anything but the human CO2 emissions. Excellent concept, though there are some questions remaining. Globally, electricity as a proportion of total energy is only around 22% according to sources. This will increase as the world shifts towards electric powered transport. Also, in the US, renewables only make up ~20% of total energy and so, 29% globally could be an overstatement. Also, renewables are not the only climate-saving option. Nuclear is likely the biggest contender for safe electron generation. Cheers - Dave
@GregHassler3 жыл бұрын
29% globally is the correct number per the IEA, the US is behind.
@deldridg3 жыл бұрын
@@GregHassler Greg - yes, I've just read the IEA report on renewables, 2021. Interestingly wind is charted to be the top growth area in renewable electricity sources. I'm surprised nuclear is so low at around 10%. If we can solve for the obvious nuclear concerns - perhaps starting with not plonking a nuke plant smack bang on a fault line - then surely we'll be headed in a strong direction. Usage is obviously the other side of the equation - usually tracks strongly with GDP growth. How to buck that trend will be a challenge for us all. Cheers - Dave

On the one hand, the video shows us that we must change our attitude regarding climate change, the road is hard and difficult, but some changes can be achieved. One the other hand, it points out that 29% of the planet's energy is generated by renewable resources,

Video is good, and it weights in on a important subject. But sustainable sources from wind turbines might not be the best option. Just take a look at what is happening in Norway. Trying to save the planet and climate with destroying nature and wild places to get energy from sustainable sources.

Until China and India agree to make real change in the way they treat the environment, this is all just useless political posturing. @@Richrr119 I agree that developing technology that fixes sustainable energy is a good direction, but you are always going to have to destroy something to create the system. Its a fine balancing act, and I don't think we have hit the right balance with anything we are using yet. Certainly not wind power. I'm not suggesting that we stop trying. I am suggesting that we stop amplifying the voices of climate alarmists who have been saying the worlds guna end because of human-cause climate change for 50 years. Their deadlines have come and gone many times over. And I am suggesting that no matter what we in the west develop and implement, if China and India don't get on board it won't even matter that we took the time to do it. Until a countries population reaches a certain level of wealth per capita, I forget what the figure is, their populations will not care about the environment because they have more pressing concerns, such as feeding, clothing and maintaining shelter. I feel the issue is far more complex than most people realise...
