Meet Bob Flowers, Josh Flower's dad. The three of us talk In The Hangar about how Bob got into flying and how the passion was passed down to his son. It's a great chance to go behind the scenes of Aviation101 to meet not only Josh, but one of the most influential people in his life.

These two inspired my son and I to start flying together and to get me back to flying after several years away from it all. We now co-own a Grumman Tiger and are having a ball!

My dad was a private pilot. The only flying I ever did with him was when I was an infant. He passed away back in '97 and I didn't start learning to fly until almost 12 years later in 2009, so he never knew that I picked up flying. When cleaning out my folks house several years ago we ran across his log book as well as licenses (they were a bit different back in the late 50's/early 60's). So between that and some effort in putting his log book into an electronic log book I now have a good record of where he's been and the planes he flew. As a way of staying connected to him I've been slowly checking off the airports he's flown into. There are a number of the airplanes he flew back in that time still registered with the FAA and I occasionally think of reaching out to the current owners just to chat. I met Josh at Oshkosh this past summer, even got to share a beer one evening with him - and it's not lost on either of them that the fact they get to share this time together is special. Thanks for the interview - it was great. :)

Josh-Kosh lol I suspect that Josh got a lot of us back into flying after a long lapse. I miss the ADF :( (not that much, but some). I like videos like this. If you could interview Steveo1Kinevo (and his dad), BaronPilot, Niko's Wings, 310 Pilot, Martin Pauly, Mike and Mark Patey... it just dawned on me that the KZbin aviation community is huge. This list would get very long very quickly if I don't stop. This is my kind of "reality TV"...

That was well done, you should’ve asked about his old girlfriend Brook and if that taught him not to include any future girlfriends in videos?

I'm glad he didn't. What happened between them is their business and not ours. Josh probably would have respectfully declined to answer, but he should not be put in that position. (Sorry. Rereading this, I realize it sounds kind of preachy, but I don't know how else to say it.)

I'm glad Josh's dad can have him as an instructor and enjoy it. I don't think I could take instruction from him. From what I've seen in the videos, Josh can be a bit dogmatic with techniques and kind of cocky. There's more than one way to skin a cat. It probably comes from his relative youth. I guess it works for him, it just wouldn't work for me.
@TakingOff
@TakingOff 5 жыл бұрын
For me, it’s a real challenge to be precise (dogmatic) but I see how imperative it is as a pilot. I only hope I can be as good a pilot as Josh.

@@TakingOff again, to each his own. I'm glad his approach works with hia dad (and other students). I'm certain I wouldn't enjoy his instruction style. I did my primary instruction with an old army guy that would slap your hand and pull the hair on your leg when you screwed up. I could never do anything to please him in the air. I hated every minute of it, but he wasn't arrogant and he taught me how to fly without killing myself.
