Joe - I have enjoyed every episode and learned from you in every interview you’ve done here. Hearing your story, I am NOT surprised that you would serve the pilots of Kingdom Air…. But, it makes me even more grateful for what you do every day.

I so needed this. I just finished my long xc and have my last flights before my final stage check. I am 45 years old and have been out of school for quite a while, never was a good test taker to begin with so I did fair on my written, but excel in decision making and I like to believe I have no issues safely flying the plane. I could ask questions all day regarding my check ride but it’s nice to hear a few pointers that will help me here really soon. I like to hear the words learning experience used with the check ride as this whole process has been about learning and I don’t want to see this as a miserable experience and that was helpful to hear. Thanks

Howd it go??

@@king.kthebest6158 honestly it was exactly how it was described. Nothing hidden, everything was exactly as you would expect. It was knowledge that you had to study for and it would show if you didn’t. My DPE was looking for good decision making, mastery of my maneuvers, book knowledge and my deciding factors of safety. I passed with ease. I did study my butt off and I listened to Jason schapperts pass your private pilot checkride audiobook regularly. I am at a part 141 school and have used the jeppesen component to their program thus far and have started my instrument. I couldn’t be happier. The DPE was looking for good decision making, he was not looking for perfection but will I make solid decisions. It was a lot of hype for something I really prepared for.

Seems I saw this interview before. That being said, the times/dates spoken can be confusing to those looking for scale dates. But the caveat is communicating. But great video.

perfect timing ..... i have my checkride wednesday morning and TBH... i'm terrified.... i dont do well in "exams" or "interviews" which is basically what these are to me (in my head) - @11:30 the dpe ihave does his pricing based on the score you got on the written.... if you get 80's like i did, it's less money than a 70+

Where does the cash go after dpe recieves it. Does he keep all or keeps 50% and FAA 50%???

The FAA does not take any money from the DPE, however, neither does it provide for any expenses for the DPE including training and mandated training.

When Paying for DPE's servers can the payment be made to a business name for tax purposes? I know that DPE's are no longer confined to a geographical area, but why can't DPE'S network together in case the check ride can't be completed so they schedule easily find another DPE?

The new system just seems like more government overreach. The FAA is in desperate need of a total overhaul. More micro management is is simply another indicator of this need.
@flitetym

A little “inside baseball”; if you can’t access a DPE in a reasonable amount of time, complain to your local member of Congress. FAA ops inspectors (GA) are still required to maintain CFI ratings, medical, and currency. The government is still required to service the need of the taxpaying public, and the mere thought of a FSDO being subjected to a “congressional inquiry” is enough to access an inspector to perform the evaluation. Imagine if the Social Security office didn’t service the public. 😵‍💫 It’s called “going nuclear.” 🤨
