Nice job. For wood handles, I have painted the handle with a light brown and then burnt sienna oil paint, left to dry for a while and then “dry brushed” off with a clean brush. It leaves a nice stain. For rusty exhaust, baking soda can be used for a nice effect, but care must be used because too much baking soda just builds up into a mess.

GREAT build and video production. I, for one, appreciate the warnings about ejector pin marks and removal, the tight fit of the fenders to the lower hull, etc. You show how these "glitches" are easily overcome. That right there is a thing of beauty! Can't help thinking you just shrunk a real one though! Also, found out a couple of days ago that if you're really in a pinch for primer, humbrol enamel paint works a treat, goes down as well if not better than any primer I have used before over bare plastic, and doesn't scratch half as easily as the acrylic primers I have tried, and since I always leave primers to dry overnight, the fumes are the only real downside, but if you have a spray booth, that will deal with those for the most part anyway

I've spent about 10 years watching modelling videos on KZbin. I have a lot of favourites and everything from planes, tanks, and ships to science fiction. You, sir, are easily one of the best I've seen. Your work is impressive but what REALLY brought this build to life was that mud you were afraid of! Totally launches this to the next level. Best video yet and that's coming from a guy that's drooled over your Fokker E.II video more than once! Bravo :)
@lpjmodels4 жыл бұрын
Michael thankyou, that's huge praise and great feedback. I need to stop being chicken with weathering effects, I think what pushed me to use a thicker mud was that the oils I was using before although great, weren't 3d enough. The gamble paid off thankyou.

@allanrichards64484 жыл бұрын
A lovely model James, very realistic weathering. Brilliant video and great commentary, much better than music. I worked with tanks as I was in the MoD for my working life. I noticed that, unless tanks had been continually ploughing through really deep mud, they tend not to have a lot of clods of mud on their suspension but tanks do kick up a lot of dust in drier conditions and get a good even coat of dust over everything. You mentioned springs and I saw that the Takom spring was not too realistic. It is possible to make springs out of solder wire which is very soft and easy to work but once glued into position is quite ok for detail.
@lpjmodels4 жыл бұрын
Hi Allan thankyou, the tips will help future builds as well, I hadn't thought if using solder. The mud on this one was done without a lot of reference so I appreciate your info !
@allanrichards64484 жыл бұрын
Hi I'm not saying your model looked wrong but once a tank full of mud gets on a half decent track the clods of mud tend to dissipate from the tracks and suspension quite quickly leaving a thin layer of mud that on a model would look more like a dusty pigment.

Great job, and; a good video. I'll say this, that Tres Semme hair spray sprays out just about like that over here in the US. Rather than use a name brand like that, go to a Walmart or a pound shop (think that's what it is in the UK), and buy the very cheapest you can find. The cheaper it is, the easier it is for the water to activate it. In other words not a good spray for hair, IS a good spray for modeling. Also, you can spray some out in the cap and then pour it over into an airbrush cup. Don't know if I would do that in a Harder & Steenbeck, but; a $20 Amazon special would be just the ticket. I'm all for getting the best result, using the least amount of money. I'm going to have to get one of those Panzer I's and see if I can find a 1/16 figure of some sort to stick in the hatch. Good show. Happy modeling, my friend!
@lpjmodels4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stephen! I have an old sparmax that would do the job nicely I think. I'll pick up some cheap and nasty stuff and see if I can get a better activation many thanks for the tip. Nice job!!,...in my opinion, one mistake that most of the modelers make is to not to weather the decals, so, in contrast with the rest, they look brand new. Some washes on them or even cut some parts off, may give a more realistic effect.
