I can't believe I'm the first and looks like the only person to COMMENT... As a long time studio historian for nearby Universal, I well knew of the fame and history of this iconic restaurant when I moved to Toluca Lake from Britain in the mid-1970's. You could say for all of us in the movie/TV business, the SMOKE HOUSE was like one big classy commissary where we could all relax and eat the famous garlic bread whether on our lunch breaks or in the evening after filming. It's the best located restaurant HOLLYWOOD ever had, the famed Brown Derby's came and went, but the historic Musso & Frank Grill still survives, as does the Formosa Cafe. But the SMOKEHOUSE didn't just build it's reputation on serving celebs and show folk, it's real "bread-butter" has come from serving the local Burbank and San Fernando Valley communities, which this year will mark it's 75 anniversary! This documentary salute is a fine presentation, well edited with the history and memories from those that lived it. It'll be a surprise to many locals like it was to me, that the SMOKE HOUSE architect Wayne McAllister also designed Hollywood's Cinegrill, Lawry's on La Cienega and the equally iconic Bob's Big Boy restaurant on nearby Riverside Drive. Let's hope THE SMOKE HOUSE can keep on smoking for many more years to come in this very same spot, and doesn't end up getting sold for just another office development for Warner Brothers!

Funny... When me and my buddies were 18 (40 years ago), with raised 4-Wheels Drive trucks, kind of invaded the Smoke House and ordered 10 Loaves of their Garlic Bread in which we took to the Hollywood Hills (near the sign) and indulged in our beer and the SM Garlic bread! It was the best of times for sure! I still visit the Smoke House from time-to-time as it is a very classy place with the red-leather seating and ambient candle lights and very great food! The Smoke House across from Warner Bros is one of the best places to go if you want great food, or even impress a date, 4X4 or not! LoL

Hi Elise, Could you share what specifically was incorrect with the history? One of our sources was Stan Stockton.
