Tales of Symphonia Colette Solo: Abyssion [No Items/Mania/No Damage]

Before anyone calls me a cheater: I discovered a mechanic where if you spell-cancel Damage Guard, the effects of Damage Guard persists through the entire spell-cast. Since I have the EX Skill "Super Guard" this means I will take no damage during the spell-cancelled Damage Guard.
This took me over a thousand attempts so I really hope you enjoy it. Damageless Abyssion was something I've wanted to do since I was like 9/10 years old and over a decade later, I've finally fulfilled that childhood dream. Abyssion challenged every skill I've built up as a gamer and I came out on top. This is the end of Colette solos on my KZbin channel. I'm very grateful to anyone who watched even one of my solos! Strategy: Here, I'll be going over my specific strategy for Abyssion damageless. For a more general overview, check out the description of my initial Abyssion solo! I had to write it as a comment since I hit the character limit in the description :( For Compound EX Skills, I ran: Critical Up and Super Guard. I just used Critical Up for a damage boost and Super Guard is necessary for surviving Time Stop without being very lucky. I had the max damage of 3000 thanks to strength and accuracy herbs. I also had the Faerie Ring and Attack Ring equipped. Faerie Ring for TP since I don't have Spirit Thief equipped and Attack Ring for more damage. I also had fire resistance thanks to the Elemental Guard/Circlet and Star Bracelet. A general guide for dodging Abyssion is to be near him. I want to be able to be in his range and then backstep out of his attack right as he uses it. This is why I always run towards him and then backstep after a combo. Note that I need to be at a specific range to dodge most of his attacks. If he's running at me and using a melee attack without me having been in his range, it becomes a lot more difficult to dodge. The most problematic attack in this case is Tiger Rage. It comes out instantly. I can't out-run it or jump it. The only way to dodge it is with a frame-perfect backstep. I would have said dodging a Tiger Rage without set-up was impossible but I managed to do it once in my thousand attempts. Another problematic attack is Swallow Dance since it has the shortest range out of all his attacks. Backstepping this attack is somewhat risky, but I can just outrun it. Double Demon Fang is also quite annoying since it comes from a range and I have to jump it or Super Guard it. He'll often use it when approaching from afar or after using Ring Cyclone. For his spells, a lot of them can be dealt with in the same way. Tap repeatedly to move away from Abyssion as he casts to make some distance and then jump over his head while it's casting and then attack. I have to tap to move away because if I start running Colette will take time to turn around and that can end up in me taking damage from a spell like Gravity Well. For fire spells, I don't have to worry about this since I'm resistant. The exception to this strategy is Spread. For Spread, I have to jump over him at the same time he casts the spell. If I don't do this, I won't even think about trying to punish Spread since it casts so fast. Abyssion starts the fight with Divine Judgment which I can just jump out of. The hard part is actually surviving right after Divine Judgment. What I did was jump out of the Mystic Arte, then run right until I'm sure that I'm running straight into Abyssion. Then, I tap left three times and then backstep once Divine Judgment is done casting. This is a fairly consistent way to survive the start of the fight. Tiger Rage can still kill me sometimes though. So the first hurdle I had to overcome was triggering his overlimit and Falcon's Crest at the same time consistently. The method I found to do this was to hit him a certain number of times with certain attacks. What I did was: hit him with 3/4 Pow Hammers, 28 basic attacks, and 3 rotations of Ray Satellite-Torrential Para Ball. With this, I was consistently able to trigger his Falcon's Crest and overlimit. I broke the basic attacks (and Ray Satellite-Torrential Para Balls) into 3 separate combos. I did two basic attack combos of 10 and one combo of 8 and ended each with RS-TPB (I did a 9 hit combo in the video but I think it's a little riskier). I had to do this because Abyssion has a chance to break out of basic attack combos anytime after 13/14 hits (from my experience at least, maybe I'm just bad). During this first phase, I also want to chuck 3/4 Pow Hammers at him while he's using Raging Beast/Victory Light Spear because I need the additional damage from Pow Hammer to trigger Falcon's Crest. Then, he uses Time Stop which I can counter by spell-cancelling Damage Guard with Holy Judgment. It's honestly probably safer to not fully cast Holy Judgment since there's a small window where I can take damage during the cast animation. However, I wanted to do it since it's cool. Depending on how many times Holy Judgment hit him, I follow a similar, but slightly adjusted plan. I want to hit him with three combos again but this time, I want to do 11-11-8 basic attacks per combo instead of 10-10-8 like in the first phase (this is because I'm not accounting for the Pow Hammer hits). Since my Holy Judgment hit twice in the video, I did 9-11-8 instead to compensate for the hits. After the second combo, Abyssion will most likely use Indignation Judgment which I can just jump out of. Then, he'll follow it up with Meteor Storm which I can dodge by running to the edge of the screen and jumping the closest meteors. After this, he'll start running at me to attack me and I would recommend using Super Guard to block his next attack because it's pretty much complete RNG to survive this part without it. Trying to backstep or jump over his head both can end up in me dying depending on what attack he decides to use. After one more combo, he'll go into overlimit. I just have to try my best to survive and hope he casts spells. At this point, he's unlocked all of his more advanced spells which means that he's more likely to cast. Once he comes out of overlimit, I'm in the final stretch. I want to follow the same 11-11-8 strategy. After 2/3 combos, he'll use Shining Bind and follow it up with Meteor Storm. After an attack or two, he'll use another Time Stop. Be very careful when dealing with Shining Bind. Its range is a lot wider than Falcon's Crest. Then, after a few more combos, the fight is over!

@@wanderkusanagi5313 You can farm lavenders off of Poison Lilies in Latheon Gorge I think. However, I would recommend finding a way to cheat em in since that will take ages lol.

Colette saying "It's finally over..." at the end really hits different this time lol It's also kinda poetic that you broke your limits and discovered this invincibility thing with Damage Guard just in time for the Abyssion rematch. It's like a straight up anime power up in terms of timing, haha. On that note, the tech reminds me of something similar Rita can do in Vesperia. She has a skill that makes her invincible to an element based on the type of spell she's casting, but if you cast a fire spell with her, she just becomes invincible to everything so long as she's in a casting animation. Absolutely magnificent run, all the way through. I look forward to whatever else you end up doing from here on, whether that be Jade or anything else!

Thank you! I'm really glad Colette said that at the end because that's exactly how I felt lol. I actually discovered the Damage Guard invincibility quite late into my Abyssion attempts. It was more like I got an anime power-up after being beaten up by the villain for 50 episodes. I've also never heard of that Rita tech. That sounds really interesting!

How do you spell cancel a level 3 tech? I've been playing Colette and can spell cancel level 1 & 2 techs just fine but not 3.

I was wondering when someone was finally gonna ask about this lol. Yeah you can't spell-cancel level 3 techs with Colette with her normal spells because her Angel spells are all considered level 3 techs. However, I found that I could spell-cancel level 3 techs by spell-cancelling with her Mystic Arte. This works because Mystic Artes are in their own category. This means that you can cancel level 1, 2, and 3 techs with it. You can put Colette's Mystic Arte on her tech list by utilizing the "Tech Menu Underflow Glitch" or by unlocking techs through Cheat Engine. The Tech Menu Underflow glitch only works on the PS3/PC versions of the game. Here's a tutorial for it written by ChaoticFox9900 if you're curious: 1. You must have at least 7 Techs unlocked to fill out one page of the Tech Menu 2. Using the D-Pad, scroll down to the very bottom of the Tech Menu 3. Using the Right Stick, push down once, then push up until your cursor is on Tech #0 4. Use Left and Right on the D-Pad to cycle through the negative values

Don't worry about asking questions! I'm able to use Holy Judgment on command because I have it assigned as a tech on one of my shortcuts. This is achievable by legitimate means using what's called the "Tech Menu Underflow Glitch." Here's how to do it (copy pasted from ChaoticFox9900 from Psnprofiles): You must have at least 7 Techs unlocked to fill out one page of the Tech Menu Using the D-Pad, scroll down to the very bottom of the Tech Menu Using the Right Stick, push down once, then push up until your cursor is on Tech #0 Use Left and Right on the D-Pad to cycle through the negative values

On the GameCube version I was able to do a couple solo fights with him(with damage of course lol). So to see you live out your dream with this series is amazing to watch. Congrats!

I have two reasons why I chose to be at one HP. The first reason is just convenience. If I'm full HP and I get hit during a no damage attempt, I have to wait until Abyssion kills me to reset the fight. The second reason is because Colette's Compound EX Skill "Super Guard" makes me take no damage during Damage Guard when I'm at low HP. This is pretty much an essential skill to take on Colette in order to beat Abyssion with no damage because it's her only way of dealing with Time Stop.
