I know people compare the Lyrics with Emil and Marta, and that's fair enough and probably intended. But the line about worn-down, comfortable shoes that can't be worn anymore kind of reminds me of Richter and Aster. How it wasn't until the shoes were no longer wearable that they noticed "how comfortable those shoes really were." I interpret it a bit as a sort of "taken for granted" kind of friendship or love being expressed. "Now that circumstances separated us, I realized that I deeply care for you and I miss what we had. We had something so comfortable and unspeakable that I didn't notice what that profound 'something' was until it was over." Maybe that's just me. But yeah, enjoy your favorite shoes while you can! Literal and metaphorical. I wore my favorite shoes down to nothing, but I remember them fondly, and there will never be another pair as comfortable to me. Time does that to everything eventually. So I'm enjoying the time I have with my partner until one of us gets worn down. And I'll keep loving them even beyond that. When we're both worn down and unusable. When time has forgotten us. I will love them forever. Just like I will love this game for forever, even if there comes a future when I can't play it ever again. Dawn of the New World is severely underrated.

Was the story that bad? I believe the biggest weakness of ToSDotW, was being a sequel. Most of the disappointing comes from the massive and beloved cast being shoehorn into a what it seems a new ip, forcing an already completed story into a new one that needed more space to be itself, bastardizing the og story plot in the process.

There's also the fact that the previous game was, what I believe to be, the best entry in the entire series: Tales of the Abyss. That, combined with the fact it was branding itself as Symphonia 2, meant that, while the game is very good, it was ultimately going to be a disappointment for long time fans. But hey, at least I didn't put it down for over a year at the 30 hour mark because of a combination of frustration that the game took away my healer for two dungeons, on if which was long, the other was annoying, and the fact that the plot couldn't decide what it was doing. This jab is aimed directly at Tales of Vesperia.

it being a direct sequel definitely held it back, but regardless of that i think the story is one of the best in the series. i think if it was set in the distant future like was originally planned, the overall reception toward the game would have been way more positive. i feel like if they had at least gotten the characterizations of the cast of the original correct then people wouldn't trash on it as fiercely as they do it would be easy to rework all of the stuff relating to lloyd and the gang into being about new characters. i love the game as it is but even i'm willing to admit that the game would be have been better off without them

I played through this game a few years ago, whilst it isn't necessarily bad it is nowhere near the standard of other Tales games, which is sad, considering that it is the sequel to what I consider the best Tales game ever. The big issue I think is that they focused on Emil and Marta and their romance as the driving force of the plot, and whilst the Tales team is good at writing many things romance is not one of their strong suits, and this is not a strong example of even that from Bamco (still better than Tales of the Abyss with Luke and Tear/ Graces with Cheria and Asbel). If you want to see a Tales game where a romantic relationship is the central driving force of the plot done right play Zestiria. The other big problem was that I feel they underused the cast from the previous game, they really got overshadowed, compare this to Xillia 2 where they introduced two new characters in Ludger and Elle (who had an interesting and unique dynamic which was really heartwarming), in that game all the party members from the first come back and get continuing plotlines that feel like a natural extension of where they were and looks at where they are going in the future, in that way the chapter system really helped the game. Whereas in Symphonia two everyone felt like guests just along for the ride that was the Emil and Marta show, heck they don't even level up as you use them making them feel even more like guest characters. Whilst I beat this game and had some fun with it, it was a real let down particularly considering how good a cast and world it could have made use of.

I loved this game the most, I felt it was minimalistic but made good use of it. The gameplay lacks slightly, but I loved the characters and the skits, even with marta and emil's romance being pushed I still like how they were fleshed out. Even today it's my favorite game lol, because emil was relatable, and I won't forget the "Courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality". I also have an unpopular opinion towards the 1st FMA anime, liking it more than the manga/brotherhood lol

I really liked this game, mostly because of the gameplay, yes, the story is kinda bad, but I can ignore a bad story if the gameplay is at least decent. Honestly, it's not nearly as bad as people says, but I do agree it's inferior to the original Symphonia in almost every aspect.

Had to agree. Though I dont mind story lines like this, its pretty cliche and already cliche to begin with. Its so predictable that I nearly spoil the ending myself without youtube xD. I did like its little charm but wish they put more effort. Like the idea of having monster allies bc there were times that bulky turtle monster save the day xD And there is the "no anime cutscene" route which did made me feel that the game was short but off as well since that was sort one of the charm T.O series had going for in their other games. There were a lot of misses that could have made the story interesting.

This one at least has a good and fun gameplay, to be honest I enjoyed the gameplay of this one more than the first Symphonia, excluding the fact that (for some reason) they forced you to always at least start the battle using Emil or Marta, and that the other members (aside from the monsters), can't level up by fighting, and that it had some balance problems, but other than that is not as bad as people says. Yes, it's story is kinda bad, but I can ignore a bad story if it has at least a good gameplay.
