Loved watching this, I am 54 now. It was wonderful days when I was little watching this, and living with my mum and dad. Great days. Loved Hammy the hampster xxx💜

And don't forget GP! :D I never realized as a kid, it stood for Guinea pig. Lol! I agree though, they were good times.

Hamster: from the German hamstern = to store away. They can store away quite a lot in those cheek pouches. I've seen hamsters store away two or three hazelnuts (in their shells) down each cheek pouch.

Hammy, Roderick and GP also used to appear in Pippin comic - though there they were drawn.

When i was a kid, my mum used to put this on TV. It was one of her favourite shows as a child, and it ended up being one of mine. I wanted all the animals.

I used to dig channels in the dirt and use sticks to build little cabins on the side. Then get myself a bucket of water and make a river. That was happiness when I was 5.

This was a wonderful programme that held me spellbound as a young child....magical, truly magical that expanded the imagination without the unnecessary proclivity for over sexualisation, violence, rudeness, disrespect and a sneerig attitude that I find prevalent on tv these days...

I also recall not only was it in black and white, but the reception was very poor and grainy, but we persisted because it was a great programme.

Think we all had tiny black & white tv’s in those days, but still enjoyed this very much, my favourite was when they went flying, remember the pilots hat🤣brilliant.❤️🥰❤️👍

I love how it doesn’t even follow the story line of wind in the willows, it just makes up a story line around what the creatures do it’s hilarious

I wrote to the BBC in the early 60's asking about the delightful guitar music. They replied it was a piece written specially for them and recorded specially for thr programme. 🤣

I knew something was different when the mouse's name wasn't Matty... but wasn't sure until I heard GP, who used to sound like WC Fields. This was my super early show at 5:30 or so when I would sneak down and watch TV.

These are the ones I remember! I used watch it as a kid when home from school, along with Rainbow and Pipkins. After these Leonard Parkin would come on with the One O'Clock News...then after that, 2 or 3 hours of hell before childrens tea-time television came on. That meant suffering Crown Court, Good Afternoon and General Hospital in the background while I drew pictures or played with lego. Difficult childhood.

Leonard Parkin and I seem to remember a newsreader called Robert Key.

Did they film the animals, then write the script, or did they force a hamster, rat, and guinea pig to learn their lines?
@Stu-SB5 жыл бұрын
I heard that rat got a real kicking for making an arse of a scene !
@epimethues46633 жыл бұрын
The funniest thing is that it’s based around Wind in the Willows but it’s nothing like it because they just have to make a script around whatever the animals want to do it’s always like “hammy is going to the shop- he’s decided he said going to eat and leave, and now hammy isn’t committing tax evasion!”
@VanWit824 жыл бұрын
