TIME STAMPS: 4:14 -- The show begins with talk of Redman's parents and their life experiences. He reflects on his father being drafted into the Marines during Vietnam, how much he learned from him, as well as witnessing his falling victim to dementia. They go on to talk about Red's mother, the principles she instilled in a young Reggie Noble, and her work in affirmative action. Red also tells the story of how a roach jumping out of the kitchen cabinet had his mom on a mission to find a better life for her and her kids, as well as when she kicked Red out of the house for selling drugs. 14:06 -- Red speaks on working and touring with Biz Markie in the early 90's and how Biz's mentorship impacted the Redman persona. They discuss Red approaching Biz to put him on, what it took to finally get the chance to collab with him, and Biz setting up battles for Red throughout NY, helping him gain notoriety. They also get into what Stretch and Bobbito's playing one of Red's freestyles did for his name, how Biz Markie rocks a crowd like no other as well as the competitive spirit of KRS-One and how he never hesitates to remind everyone who the greatest is. 22:49 -- Red is asked what the motivators are behind the incredible shows that he puts on for his fans. Red talks about always demanding his audience's undivided attention, pulling inspiration from De La Soul's stage presence, as well as feeling like he's a long way from retiring when the greats like Rakim and others are still moving the crowd. They also go into the legacy of EPMD and how deeply Redman connected with an East Coast group's slow flow and sampling of funk music. Red being inspired and feeling like there was an open lane for him the rap game. 31:01 -- Red's fellow Hit Squad member and birthday brother K-Solo is brought up. They reflect on K's role in bringing Red onto the team, always being real with him and putting Red on a path to success in the game even when his career started to surpass his own. They go on to discuss the animosity that started to bubble up amongst Parrish Smith, K-Solo, as well as Erick Sermon and how that led to the demise of the Hit Squad. Red details his own frustrations during that time as he was getting ready to make his debut on the scene with 'Redman - Whut? Thee Album'. 41:43 -- Red's long time friendship with Faith Evans is mentioned and they get into the impact of Michael Jackson on a young Reggie Noble. Red talks about wanting to have the same impact on people that MJ did at such an early age, never flinching to come to his defense and feeling the same way about hometown hero Whitney Houston. Red's 'How To Roll A Blunt' is brought up as they get into his acquiring the beat from Pete Rock, being inspired by what Cypress Hill was doing on the West Coast, and feeling like he needed to bring the same energy for the East with his own dedication to cannabis culture. 47:11 -- Red speaks on his becoming the co-founder of the National Cannabis Party. He gets into his ambitions of perusing a deeper and more meaningful role in the cannabis community and the NCP being just that. They discuss the mission of the NCP with his partner Damon Jackson to promote the healing properties of the plant, fully legalize, free those that are still incarcerated for selling it, and hold politicians accountable. Red also shares some strong words for celebs that aim to capitalize on the industry with no intentions on uplifting the culture. 59:34 -- Red's debut record 'Whut The Album' is explored. They dig into the bold move of sampling Cypress Hill for 'Time 4 Sum Aksion' who's record came out only a year before as well as using boxing announcer Michael Buffer's iconic line. They go on to discuss Red's 'Sooperman Lover' series being inspired by Johnny Guitar Watson as well as EPMD's 'Jane' series. They also explore bringing real guns to the video shoot for 'Tonight's Da Night', Red's SMACK DVD appearance and how rapper Hurricane G came into the fold and what she brought to the crew. 1:08:26 -- Red explains the reasons he chooses to be fully transparent with his fans, leave his flaws on full display and avoid the phony façade of perfection that so many carry with them in the industry. They go on to discuss Redman's cousin Sugar Bear aka Mr. Cream, Red's second album 'Dare Iz a Darkside' and being high on acid during many of the studio sessions. They also explore what MC Hammer had to say to Red after he heard the diss and Red mentioning his mother in the 'Funky Uncles' skit. 1:17:20 -- The album 'Muddy Waters' is brought up and they get into it being Redman's induction into the mainstream and discuss a notable bar on 'Pick It Up' where Red addresses those that criticize his growth as an artist. They go on to talk about the Redman mascot suit and the making of the 'Da Goodness' with Busta Rhymes. They also discuss the Redman and Method Man connection, their first meet being similar to how they met in 'How High' and the two being on the same page about the goals of the newly formed duo. 1:28:03 -- They go on to explore the huge success of Meth and Red's 'Blackout' album. They discuss how producer/rapper Rockwilder was put on by Redman, them being friends since the early 90's and Rock fully in his bag at the time, churning out beats for some of the biggest names in the industry. Red goes on to talk about the legacy of DJ Kay Slay Kay, his being one of the realest in the game and Red never turning down a request from Slay. Red also details his experience playing himself in the film 'Seed Of Chucky' and working alongside Jennifer Tilly. 1:38:41 -- Red's frequent appearances on Wu-Tang's 'The Saga Continues' album is brought up and they dig into Red's getting down with the WU in the early days, feelings over the lost potential of the Hit Squad while witnessing Wu-Tang's success and how he was eventually named the 11th member of the Clan. They go on to talk about when Red got serious about his health and fitness as well as how his song and video 'Slap Da Sh*t Outcha' found new life after the recent events at the Oscars. 1:49:55 -- Talib gives his take on Redman's growth and evolution as an artist as well as a human being. Red goes on to detail how much his life perspective has changed since his start with EPMD at the age of 19 and how he chooses to handle people that bring negative energy his way. They also discuss how Red became the executive producer of the 'The Dab Roast' show, discuss the theories behind why women love to dab, why dabbing isn't popular on the East Coast and Red wanting to bridge the gap of cannabis culture.

JERSEY STAND UP! This interview is great. I am around the same age as Redman & the things he talks about in his albums I lived thru. Growing up in Jersey City, NJ & going to Newark as a kid & even going to college in Newark during the early 90's it was crazy. Redman, Naughty, Lords, Lafitah, Artifacts, Apache & Chill Rob G embodied the Jersey lifestyle back in the late 80's & early 90's. Hip Hop from Jersey was at the greatest it ever was!

This man is the literal epitome of hip hop greatness. There aren't too many rappers that are still consistently STILL putting out the work! Red is on mount Rushmore status now in hip hop. I'm from Canada I've have probably seen him perform about 3 times. Twice with Meth and once dolo and he NEVER disappoints.. NEVER! One of the best rappers and best performers to ever touch a mic and not to mention above all he's an amazing person. Love Reggie Noble!

The first time I heard of him was on Hardcore when his part came my brothers and I lost our shit! We damn near broke the tape (yup a cassette tape) rewinding his part. I saw him live in VA at a club called Ivory’s he torn that place apart. To this day if I watch How High I watch the GET EM! part a 100 times and I still die laughin! The illest MC out there hands down.

Big aroha, peace and love to Talib and Jasmine from Aotearoa. Just got to the cannibis part of the interview - Big love to Redman for putting his integrity at the forfront of his actions, rather than the paper chase, rat race (which to a certain point will actually get you nowhere). We need more of this in all facits of the human world. Thank you Reggie!! Word up.

Hell yeah bro me too. I wish I was alive, and was a teenager when that shit dropped. That must've been a hell of a time, I'm so jealous of people born in like...80 or so; to be the perfect age when all that shit came out. If I had access to a time machine that's when I'd go back to, fo sho.

Shit yeah. I do that all the time, almost every People's Party episode I'm constantly pausing it to bump whatever track they're talking about. As I type this, I literally just came back to watching the episode from listening to Rock Co Kane lol.

This is at least the second time I've watched this episode, I jus love Red so much. But, I'm commenting to say: Talib is so incredible at this. At this point in time, there are a million hip hop podcasts; dare I say, there might even be too many. There are a ton of dope ones tho, too many to even name. But People's Party is definitely top tier among them. Talib being such an intelligent, inquisitive, and genuine dude, on top of being a serious hip hop historian, makes him and this show one of, if not _the_ best hip hop podcast out here. Keep up the incredible work fam! I hope the show never stops!
