My son, who is on the spectrum, loves how the Earthen talk. He says they talk like him and I can see how a race that has gone through what they have gone through, and how they are created would speak with a flat affect and a (to me) familiar bluntness.

I want to add that "whoever you want to be" feels very important to Azeroth herself. Since the beginning, other forces have tried to enforce their will and desires upon Her. Sargeras wanted her for his dark pantheon, the Titans to make her the greatest of their number, the Void corrupting her to be their herald. I'd not be surprised if she despises this, wanting to be free of all others trying to entrap her to their own designs.

Why is Elune associated with Azeroth's moon? Maybe there is where she physically residences? Maybe Elune has been trying to cover for sibling deity held in shackles in the world below. If so Azeroth is a goddess.

It was pretty tragic for a moment because Magni was so distraught feeling Azeroth had abandoned him and taken everything from him, only to come close to his grandson (there’s even optional dialogue) and then it looks like choice was completely taken from him in order to sacrifice himself. @@qibliturtle6466 I don’t know how they managed it, but they’ve somehow managed to make me LIKE Moira. For us old folk, she was first and foremost the annoying healer who you probably killed while fighting the emperor of the Dark Iron at the end of BRD. Her screen time in Cataclysm only made her even LESS trustworthy, with her doing the whole invading and occupying Ironforge thing, and only relenting when an Alliance army led by Varian forced her to accept a role on a council of 3 that would rule jointly. I think I can safely say EVERYONE was just waiting for her to show her true colors and betray us again. But she never did. To be honest, I think the writers just forgot that she even existed until Legion rolled around and someone remembered she was a priest. But man… if nothing else, bliz is NAILING character development so far in TWW. Anduin and Faerin are great together too. That moment when she channels the light THROUGH his hand…

@@mattphoenix4702 Well, Moira is or was a weird character -- you really wanna tell me this young girl fell in LOVE with his old old dude that coincidentally is the emperor of an rivalling clan? Please, she can't hide that she did that rather calculatedly with a purpose in mind, and likely was more than happy when we rid her of that old bag of bones. She is still a bronzebeard and it was always ludicrous to me that the dark irons would even accept her as their ruler just because she was married to their emperor --- even them must have had the thought of her just coming in to give the bronzebeard control over the dark irons too, and then she even orchestrated the death of the ruler to take over --- that's what in real world everybody would think if that stuff had happened. But well, worked out for her --- but how and why would/could she "betray" us while she was on the council? She was in the perfect position to be in, and with her son, who would be even legally the rightful heir of TWO clan's thrones, she was already everything set and done

@@mehartnett98 I don’t think that would really work to be honest. The Earthen are literally MADE from Azeroth. They’re part of her body. Since Azerite is her blood and/or essence, it makes sense that she can reanimate those Earthen who had gone dormant. Every other instance of us harnessing the power of Azerite in game requires us to channel it through something. The Heart of Azeroth, the Titan machinery in the Chamber of the Heart, the uh… Jailer Machine in Zereth Mortis.

Both moira and dagran crying at the "corpse" of magni nearly made me cry myself. Just the animation and the voice acting felt so real in that moment I don't personally think that azeroth's gift being light energy means anything atm. I don't think that she has been influenced completely to either side just yet. So there's a chance that it's just the color of pure energy, rather than neccesarily her being a light being

As namely a Horde player, I never really got into the dwarf race much, and just didn't see the appeal. Especially Magni and his constant crying about Azeroth and her wounds. This cinematic changed all of that for me. It seriously made me choke up and was so well done. Dagran is an amazing character, and his adoration for his grandfather and just his innocence in exploring the world about him is so wholesome. I seriously can't wait to create an Earthen (I'm only level 78 atm, taking my time enjoying the campaign storytelling). This is perhaps my favorite ingame cinematic they've ever done, because I actually felt connected to the story for the first time in a long while.
@Arcanix
@Arcanix 5 ай бұрын
Dagran's expression is not just of pride, but reluctant surrender. He knows something must be done, that Magni is the only one with enough power (as the legend he is) present at that moment, and he knows that he might even lose his gran'da... possibly forever. It's gone beyond his control and he's letting his gran'da do what must be done to save the Earthen and fulfill a purpose that he can't properly fathom. Also pay attention to how Moira moves to support Dagran, turning away from her father. She's also a priest of the Light now, remember, and she does nothing to try to help him with that power. Now why would that be? Maybe she's still got a wee sliver of that shrewd regent lurking in her motivations? I'm glad you brought up how the Azeroth energy now (re)charges the Earthen, just like Azeroth's power now fuels the Dragonflight Aspects. Titan technology was used to perform that before, and now Azeroth is "upscaling" them to tap into her own juice instead. This was the purpose of the ritual, to allow Azeroth as a young Worldsoul to learn the process of building and converting living matter -- the dwarves are one of the closest races to their pre-Curse-Of-Flesh format (contemplate whether the Earthen were actually originally Titan constructs or native elemental forms simply converted by Titans... discuss) . It just took her a while to figure it out with Magni to do the conversion one way. Also did she plant the ritual in order to accomplish this, with foresight and intent? Finally, come on did you seriously not recognize the resemblance of Magni's new model with the OG Vanilla WoW cinematic of the hunter dwarf??? It's anniversary time!

This cinematic was so good. It doesn't matter how many times I see it, it makes me weep every time. Also, my theory on the worldsoul: I think worldsouls aren't any one thing specifically, but more like possibility. I think that the kind of magic that the worldsoul becomes infused with determines what it becomes when it's born or hatches or whatever. Sopphic or order magic makes it a Titan. Void magic makes it a Void Lord. Nature magic makes it a being like Elune. So on and so forth. So, obviously, the Titans want to make Azeroth into a Titan, but she's not one yet. And with all the different kinds of magic she's been infused with over the millenia, I think Azeroth is becoming something new, personally. But I suppose we'll see.
@yummychips_
@yummychips_ 5 ай бұрын
I kinda like your theory. It does seem like other worlds seemed to have been influenced by a outer force that resulted into them becoming what they are, granted we may not have pure concrete proof. Maybe Azeroth has become kind of independent and doesn't want to be any of them. Instead maybe Azeroth see's its own denizens as what it truly wants to be, a vast mix of various races and a home to all kinds. Maybe Azeroth sees that the denizens are the only hope to protect both herself from becoming one of the beings and also to protect themselves from destruction, since her awakening would assumingly end the world. Azeroth speaks to off world beings that have settled on her too, like the Orcs and Dranei. I get there are Azeroth born Orcs, but i would think maybe they are still connected by being being there since life and the soul works in weird ways. Draneis are completely not related to Azeroth and they can hear the song, based on the Player Character though.
@Widdershyn
@Widdershyn 5 ай бұрын
Yeah, that would make sense to me. Like how all the Old Gods were on Azeroth - were they trying to turn her into a void entity? The Titans certainly created forges deliberately to inject Order into her to counter that... And Argus became an entity so suffused with Death magic that he ended up going into the Shadowlands. So Worldsouls being a potential rather than worldsoul=bby titan like the Titans led us to believe would make sense. It also makes sense that the Titans would deliberately set up their propaganda to feed us the line that Azeroth could ONLY be a world soul, because they don't seem to like acknowledging any potential where things do not go according to Order - case in point the incident Taliesin referenced where the Earthen declaring themselves all Unbound leads to a literal massive Titan construct coming out of the sea to wipe them out.

We honestly need more of this. With WoW having such an older audience, sooo many of the players are now fathers, mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers. I think it's important that they get some representation as well. One of the biggest disappointments in MMO gaming is the shear lack of families and family moments. I hope Blizzard does us a solid and unites Faerin and Anduin together as a power couple. As well as working harder on Alleria and Turylon and their son. In a real world where extreme individualism has pushed so many people apart, I think we need more unity in our games. And I'm not talking about bullshit wokeism drama. But legitimate family connections and just people being good to each other. Putting the team above the individual.

@NightWing1800 posted this before the video was reuploaded, but i'm reposting it both to add my reply and simply because they made a really good point @NightWing1800: Something interesting I think about how Azeroth seems to be slotting into the cosmology is that it's still in line with how the Titan map of it we got is with light and shadow opposite and arcane and fel opposite. Azeroth isn't in the sphere of the Titans. She isn't Arcane. Azeroth isn't order. "Reality" is in the middle of the cosmo disco war and is independent of each force. Azerite is creation and destruction, two opposites, because all Azeroth's power is just straight up power and it's the freedom to use that power for good or bad in service of your own vision. Every other major force we see involved seems to radically change how a person thinks and behaves as it aligns them with that force's way of being where when people are empowered by Azeroth they just seem to get a sense of clarity. Even just holding azerite in BfA, we don't see people suddenly swearing loyalty and wanting to protect Azeroth. They react to it being powerful even to hold and think about what it could do. Sylvanas think about how it can change the world through it being a tool, Gallywix is thinking about money because that's his vision for power and how things should work in his life, and Anduin immediately thinks of the Horde and has a desire to get ahead of this. They're all pretty anti-azeroth views between either being selfish or wanting this power off the board, and the through line is "I have to be proactive and I have to make the world how I want it to be". My reply: You make a really good point, especially with the "clarity" bit. Just like the line "whoever you want to be", Azeroth simply embodies freedom. She is power, yes, but what the people do with that power is up to them, be it good or bad. They aren't immediately acting out of a greater purpose, "for the titans" or "for the legion", but simply for what they believe in!

Main runs through main story and collects all of the rep from the initial playthru. All the alts run through the main line story but then to finish to 80 they focus on the side quests and rep for individual zones. So far this has worked really well.

The Bronzebeard Clan have always been near and dear to my heart, so this cinematic was a beautiful "coming home" moment. The foreshadowing of Azeroth and her army of beings with free will, defying the Titans, Death, The Burning Legion, The Old Gods, and The Void?!?! It opens possibilities for Cosmic Multiversal travel. We've dabbled in this before with previous expansions, and they weren't received with much negative feedback, apart from Shadowlands... WoD was timey whimey so while technically visiting a different planet, it was a branch timeline, and under-developed...still doesn't count. This cinematic not only ties loose ends, and ticks all the boxes, it opens the door for some amazing possibilities. 10/10

I just want the world to go back to worldly affairs and fewer gods and universes trying to swallow it up. I want to fight kobolds, I want to see a night elf faction who fights for independence and liberation of their old homelands, I want to see two human kingdoms at odds with each other, a naga empire that exists and isn't just defeated in one expansion or in one patch/raid. I want to see ruthless nerubians who aren't just spider-people with the same culture, wants and needs as every person. At some point wow took the races to heart as just people who look different as if they're asians and caucasians, instead of a completely different creature without the same type of sentience or interests as people. Only the scourge and the faceless ones have basically been this ever since garrosh's horde. The fact that the forsaken arent allies with the humans in lore is beyond stupid considering they are literally people: they think, feel and retain their personalities from life, yet sometimes are evil and like torture and experimental potions. So did undeath change them or not? Blizz can't seem to decide I don't want an azeroth campaign to conquer all the cosmic forces where everything is red, purple or green, or yellow.

At this point, it is not confirmed, nor denied that it this is magni. All we know there is a curse of flesh being telling earthen to choose for themselves. Whether this is based on the individualism or free will vibe the writers are giving azeroth or the first steps of void corruption is to be seen.

On the subject of Azeroth not being a titan: Yeah, that's always been the case. I think it's a point that has kind of been glossed over, but it's always been there that world souls become titans; they are not implicitly titans themselves. We see that with Argus, who was *going to become* a titan before the world soul got corrupted by Sargeras. Just like a world soul that got corrupted by the Old Gods became something else - something that terrified Sargeras into creating the Burning Legion.

Maybe Azeroth is so powerfult because she can absorb all different kinds of magic. With most magic in wow it has a very specific color theme depending on the type of magic. Yellow for light, blue/light purple for arcane, dark purple for the void, and green for necromancy. The void had infected her (though not completely) before the titans imprisoned the Old Gods and infused her with their own order magic. So it makes sense that the wave from Magni had blue that ended in a purple flash. Maybe the light part of her magic is from the creatures living on her using light and thereby infusing it into her?

I have played dwarves since early Vanilla WoW. Magni has always been MY King! This cinematic brought tears, it did. I'm so looking forward to seeing where his and his family story arc takes us/him/them! Great video Tali! Thanks! Oh and yeah Azeroth isn't a Titan...thankfully! 🙂

I liked the reference within the video to other cinematic moments. There is both a moment of sacrifice that lead to a great pulse of light that felt very 'Atlantis: The Lost Empire' queen as well as a voice line that reminds me of 'Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings' Arwen, "What Grace is given me, let it pass to him. Let him be spared. Save him." There's also something being triggered by the line 'She let me go', but I'm not sure which movie I'm thinking of. Technically this happens in 'Atlantis: The Lost Empire' as well though, of which there is a ton of reference to in the War Within, what with the giant glowing ball of power that protects us, a long lost island, and a hero who was released from sacrifice because they had more good work to do. Even the soundtrack in some areas reminds me of her returning from the light.

i loved the cinematic and just the expansion in general from a story telling perspective. The stick around and listen parts have been great as well. in terms of what Azeroth is, i still think Azeroth is a mix of all the cosmic forces because all the forces got together on Azeroth to fight for the soul. Much like all the races in wow that can have the flexibility to follow multiple cosmic influences without being consumed by them. I still think that the end of this expansion will be Azeroth awakening as partially a void entity, then midnight will be the races of Azeroth protecting her from the void seeking to turn her full void then last titan will protecting her from the light seeking to do the same.

My theory is the Worldsouls can potentially become more than just Titans. They can potentially become something for all of the cosmic forces. Titans for Order, Void Lords for Void, something akin to a Prime Naaru for Light, etc. The Titans obviously wanted her to become another Titan, so they spared no effort in trying to protect her from everything else. If Azeroth is the most powerul Worldsoul, it makes sense that multiple cosmic forces want to lay claim to her power.

Semi-spoilers. I sighed a bit at apparent fate of Magni, as I like him as a character. Then comes the twist and I was genuinely like: "Really? They did that?", and it was refreshing! The War Within, despite not having been out long, has started really, really strong!

I've grown to really like Dagran, he isn't burdened by his heritage and destiny. He's all like screw you guys I'ma nerd and I love it. He doesn't seem like Anduin who was so weighted down by his expectations and just lives in the here and now. Good character.

As a Dwarf (and Magni) fan-boy since I started playing wow, this cutscene made me sob like a baby for mourning and relief. Nothing in wow has ever given me these feelings, so this xpac is already a 10/10 on my books. Blizz can bring Zovaal and/or Azerite Power back for all I care, this is still the best xpac in my opinion.

I like the parallels here between the aspects and the earthen. The Dragons now get their aspect powers from Azeroth and not the Titans, as the Earthen are now tied to Azeroth and not the Titans. Like Azeroth is saying "Ok, I'm done with this Titan business."

I think the reason Magni doesn't get what's going on is because he didn't actually have contact with Azeroth before, but now he does. Azeroth doesn't speak in whispers, but through the radiant song (which is her way of calling for help, maybe?) and the bestowal of life and energy to those who are in contact with her. He did the ritual specifically to ask for contact, and this time I think she actually answered. Now he's wielding power he never had before because he finally *actually* has contact with Azeroth. The rest was "whispers" and some magic (Xal'Atath's or whoever's..) This time, he's the real deal? Edit: I think this is setting up Azeroth's influence as far more subtle but extremely powerful at the same time. Subtle enough to miss, but strong enough to push back the void, and regenerate the living with rest and active cycles, much as many of Azeroth's natives have done. They too switch between "light and dark" if you think about it.. (or am I seeing that wrong?)
