Live at Montreux 1986 is a concert video release by the British synth pop band Talk Talk of a concert at 1986 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The show was part of a tour that started in April 1986 to promote the band's recent album The Colour of Spring, and was to be their only appearance at Montreux, from their last tour.
For this tour, the usual trio of Mark Hollis (vocals), Paul Webb (bass), and Lee Harris (drums) was augmented by John Turnbull on guitar, two percussion players, and two keyboard players. As often, de facto fourth band member Tim Friese-Greene did not play on stage with the band.
:: Living In Another World ::
Better parted
I see people crying
Truth gets harder
There's no sense in lying
Help me
Find my way from this maze
I can't help myself
When I see tenderness before you left
(Forget)
That even breaking up was never meant
(Forget)
But only angels look before they tread
(Forget)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)
Better parted
I see people hiding
Speech gets harder
There's no sense in writing
Help me
Find the way from this maze
I can't help myself
When I see tenderness before you left
(Forget)
That even breaking up was never meant
(Forget)
But only angels look before they tread
(Forget)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)
Help me
Find a way from this maze
I'm living in another world to you
And I can't help myself
Did I see tenderness where you saw hell?
(Forget)
Did I see angels in the hand I held?
(Forget)
God only knows what kind of tale you'd tell
(Forget)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)

I come back to this over and over and over again. This is by far one of the holy grail benchmarks of what a live performance should be. EVERY band and artist should watch this and aspire to be even just a fraction this good. Mark Hollis was one of the most reluctant front men of any band but he was SOOOO good. I love the fact that he helped create the music he did with Talk Talk and then just disappeared from the limelight. Absolute legendary band. Those who know.... know.

Gareth Jones. Great comment. Agree with you 100%. I love and respect the fact he did what he did and dropped out at his peak. Proved he wasnt an attention seeking bellend like so many others in the music industry. A true and complete talent. Like you said, those who know .... know, thats all that counts.

One of my favorite songs of all time and this version is amazing. I only cried once because of a musician's passing and that was Prince. And today. I remember the beautiful summer of 1984. I was 14 when "Such a Shame" was released in Germany. I wanted to get the maxi-version on vinyl which was not available in my German hometown, so I had to travel by train on this very hot summer day to the next larger city in order to get it. Those were the days where one had to put in some effort to get only one song. Mark Hollis belonged to the best songwriters and singers in history. And I will not stop getting goose-bumps listening to his songs. He was truly a genius who did not give a fiddlers fok about fame and fortune which makes him so loveable to begin with. Rest well, Mark. Thank you for the music. Enjoy "Living in another world"! Never to be forgotten.

Talk Talk were, are, always be be, an extraordinary band. They started out as a familiar 1980's new wave/synth-pop act, scoring a hit with the brilliant 'It's My Life' but by the early 1990's had morphed into a highly atmospheric progressive rock band. Mark Hollis was a genius, pure-and-simple. I love Talk Talk, and I always will.

Great band and great heartfelt singer in Mark Hollis. I followed them since they first came out in the 80s and now I understand them better. What I mean by that is every lyric Mark sang had an awakened perspective… he wasn’t a showman, he kept it real. He KNEW, and I didn’t back then, it’s a difficult road to navigate RIP Legend 🙌
