I loved this song when it first came out. It introduced me to their music and for that I was very appreciative. At the time, if a DJ played this at the clubs around, it got a lot of kids out on the dance floor.

I hadn’t realised you’d not done the first album yet! What a great track to launch their debut album and career. This really jumped out when it was played on the radio. Don’t forget this was still the early eighties, so not really derivative at that point. Fantastic keyboard work and drumming too. Mark is on brilliant form with his vocals.

I LOVE IT!! This was the first Talk Talk song I ever heard and it brings back A LOT of memories from early days of MTV. It's definitely a radio friendly tune of the time. The bigger drums may be due to the style, influence of the other successful bands of the new romantic era like Adam Ant, Bow Wow Wow, etc who were bringing in these big tribal beats and heavy drumming. Thanks for finally covering this one!!!!!

You absolutely must listen to the whole album, it may not be as good as the others lacking the often brittle beauty that followed on the later albums, but it's one of the best early 80s pop albums, if not the best. Today, It's so Serious, Mirror Man, Another Word, Candy, Hate...are all great tracks. BTW check out the original version by The Reaction, Talk Talk Talk Talk, they were a garage punk band.

RIP Mark Hollis. This is the first album by Talk Talk and they hit just right. LIttle suggestion from a metal fan: Listen to something by Nightwish, sung by either Tarja Turunen, Anette Olzon or Floor Jansen, you'll love it! My personal recommendations are the Live version of Phantom of the Opera, Nemo, The Poet and the Pendulum and Ghost Love score.

I’m not going to comment on how great this album is even if I’m familiar with many of its songs. It is, in fact, the only TT release I have never listened from beginning to end. I’m not a completist. What I will say is that I’m impressed with how great this song is. And how much greater it could be if the arrangement or instrumentation was different. I remember gong to the first Lollapalooza in ‘91 and seeing how NIN took the synth pop of _Pretty Hate Machine_ and turned it into full blown aggressive rock in a live setting. I wonder if anyone has ever done that with “Talk Talk” or “Today”.

The Party's Over is the only Talk Talk album I really like. I never got hooked on the rest of their discography (and especially not Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock, which are in the stripped-down musical style). Well, not everything on this debut album is flawless (especially the weak "Mirror Man" and "Another World" and the electronic drum sound that undoubtedly anchors the record in its time). My favourites are "Talk Talk", "The Party's Over", "Have You Heard The News?" and "Candy". So Justin, if you ever feel like listening to a few more tracks from the album on your channel, choose from the last three I mentioned earlier.

@@Owlstretchingtime78 For me, tt's first three albums, crap. The 4th, not bad, best of a bad bunch, and 5, not as good as 4, but better than 1-3. Also for me (again,) it's just a little frustrating that were back with another band we've been beatin over the head with time and time again. With a veritable pacific ocean of music to listen to, try, explore. A vast quantity of sound to dip into, plumb the depths of, so to speak. And to carry on the vast oceans analogy, for a while now the selection of repeated artists, it's like JP's dipped a thimble into that vast ocean and just keeps going back to that, and previous artists over and over... I think it's like the channels in reverse sometimes, hence my 'own time' comment... I'd have thought if he was introduced to a band he liked he would/could explore them more in his own time, while exploring new artists, genres etc for both himself and us. Whereas now it seems more like an oldies channel, fan favourites (using those words lightly), and the newer, more unknown stuff (for me anyway) only appreas in list form on these new-ish monthly vids on what he's been listening to himself. I hope that all made sense :)
