Fort Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija
November 22, 2017
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited the Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and recognized the valiant and benevolent acts of the Special Forces amidst the Marawi armed conflict in an awarding ceremony at the Fort Magsaysay in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.
The President awarded the Order of Lapu-Lapu (Ranks of Kamalig and Kampilan) and the Gold Cross Medals to several officers and personnel that were deployed during the Marawi siege, and relayed to them the accolades that the Philippines received from the Heads of State/Government and military attaches during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.
“Kung anong kailangan ninyo, bibilhin ko,” President Duterte said, referring to his government’s commitment in providing whatever the troops need to engage in battle. Likewise, he reiterated that his administration would allot a yearly appropriations or budget to the Armed Forces to be used solely for the soldiers’ housing, life insurance, and other retirement benefits.
At the same time, the Commander-in-Chief extended his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Marawi City’s liberation.
“You are up against terrorism, (illegal) drugs, and the NPA (New People’s Army),” President Duterte reminded the government troops as he ended his speech.
